Around three hundred years ago, there was a Tibetan chang house (bar) located in the southeast corner of Barkhor Street in the center of ancient Lhasa. One moonlit night, this chang house was visited by a mysterious man. He looked ordinary enough, but was by no means a commoner. On that night, a beautiful lady happened to visit this chang house also. Her beauty and purity impressed the man so much that her face appeared again and again in his dreams. From that night on, the man visited the chang house frequently, hoping to see the lady once more. However, she never appeared there again. Over the eastern hill rises, The shining silver moon, Makye Ame's clear smiles, Enchant my mind again and again. This is a well-known poem in Tibet, said to be written by that mysterious man in his reminiscing about the lady. In fact that mysterious man was the sixth Dalai Lama of Tibet, Tsangyang Gyaltso. He often dressed as an ordinary person and left the Potala Palace to experience the life and emotions of the common people. I performed an arrangement I wrote consisting of three Tibetan popular songs strung together as a medley. Anyone who listens to Tibetan music will always notice the beauty behind the meaning of the lyrics and in the manner in which it is sung, but what I wanted to achieve through my piano arrangement was to bring forth the various melodies and harmonies into the spotlight as well. This was performed on 10/29/11 in DC for Machik Weekend 2011. The three songs performed are (in order): Palgon - Aku Pema Yudrug Tsendep - Drenpai Zhechung Yadong - Ama I have yet to write this down on paper so it's still undergoing various changes each time I play it, therefore, this is not the completed version.
