A Virtual Reconstruction model of the Herodian Temple Mount constructed by UCLA and the IAA

The Herodian version of the model shows visitors how excavators believe the Temple Mount site appeared prior to its destruction by Roman troops in the year 70 CE. The focus is on the southern portion of the enclosure, and includes reconstructions of Robinson's Arch (an early overpass linking the top of the platform with the major city street below), the Hulda Street gates and passages onto the platform, the Royal Stoa, and the Second Temple. The reconstruction is based on the excavations at the Temple Mount under the direction of Ronny Reich and regional archeologist Gideon Avni. On view at the Davidson Center,

Delphi, Greece: A Virtual Reconstruction

Virtual reconstruction of Delphi, Greece, using 3D laser scanning technology to capture surfaces and geometries of the ruins and 3D modeling software to create a walkable virtual model from the results. Produced by Kenneth S. Shain, based on a project led by Guillaume Thibault and funded by EDF, it debuted at Siggraph 2000 in New Orleans, Lousiana as a Mensi promotional video and subsequently was featured at the Delphi Forum in Savannah, Georgia, later that same year. It closes with a dramatic 3D entry to the Temple of the Oracle. Someday youtube will permit 3D video broadcasting. Ask for it today! A Note On the Music: Stamping Ground by Moondog was produced by James William Guercio and copyright 1969 & 1971 by Louis Hardin. The work is available on Columbia Records CD MK44994 as manufactured by Sony Music Entertainment Group. All who view this video are encouraged to seek out this work.

A Virtual Reconstruction model of the Umayyad period buildings outside the Temple Mount

The Umayyad period version of the model shows the site as excavators believe it appeared just prior to a major earthquake that hit the city in 749 CE. During the Umayyad period, Jerusalem enjoyed an extensive building campaign by Caliph 'Abd al-Malik ibn al-Marwan and his son Al-Walid. The Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque were constructed during this period. The focus of the model is on the two large buildings south of the Temple Mount platform and the north/south Cardo. The reconstruction is based on the excavations at the Temple Mount under the direction of Yuval Baruch, Jerusalem District Archaeologist. On view at the Davidson Center.

Synagogues in Germany: A Virtual Reconstruction - clip 1 of 3

The Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus is pleased to present Synagogues in Germany: A Virtual Reconstruction. The exhibition, featured for the first time in North America, opens August 29 and runs through November 29, 2010. The 1994 arson attack on a synagogue in L眉beck, Germany motivated a number of students at the Darmstadt Technical University to explore an important chapter in the history of German architecture. Using Computer Aided Design (CAD) to simulate true-to-life three-dimensional conceptions and spatial arrangements, they have virtually reconstructed synagogues that were targets of Nazi violence. The reconstruction process is intended not only to create interest in valuable historical monuments, but also in architecture now lost. These elaborate CAD reconstructions provide a representative survey of the architecture of synagogues in Germany before their destruction during Kristallnacht in November of 1938. What is more, they convey visual impressions of the diversity, the splendor and the significance of the synagogue in the history of German urban architecture from the early nineteenth century until 1938. The exhibition will display the reconstructions of 14 synagogues which, until the time of their destruction, were an integral part of the urban landscape of Cologne, Berlin, Darmstadt, Dortmund, Dresden, Frankfurt, Hanover, Kaiserslautern, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Plauen. The exhibit also makes an important contribution to the development ...

Sea Stallion

The Sea Stallion is a prototype for an interactive museum exhibit created by Roskilde University Experience Lab in partnership with Roskilde Viking Ship Museum. It is built on a framework consisting of a Kinect Sensor and 6 projectors creating a circular space where any information can be displayed in a continuous view. The content presents itself to the participant, reacting instantly to change in position. Audio, video and photographs are localized to the person in the space. Technology developed by Nikolaj "Dzl" M酶bius of GeekPhysical and by Nicolas Padfield of illutron.

Virtual Reconstruction of a Fractured Mandible

This case is of a patient with a traumatic injury to the mandible that caused a fracture at the right angle of the mandible and a fracture at the midline of the mandible as well. Custom models of the fractured pieces were created with Anatomage technology and visualized in the Invivo software. A simulation of the virtual reconstruction was created to help the surgeons visualize in three dimensions how the pieces would need to be fit back together before even going to surgery.

Bay of the Bones - Ohrid, Macedonia - 3D Virtual Reconstruction

3D Virtual Reconstruction of the Bronze Age site Bay of the Bones - Plo膷a Mi膷ov Grad, Ohrid, Macedonia. The pile-dwellings as a specific micro-environmental human habitu茅s type are especially characteristic for the prehistoric period, beginning in the time of the Neolithic -- New Stone Age, the Eneolithic -- Copper Age, the Bronze and the Iron Ages. The first underwater archaeological excavations in Macedonia were performed during 1997 at the site Plo膷a Mi膰ov Grad in the Bay of the Bones located along the south coast of Gradi拧te Peninsula, near the village of Pe拧tani. At a depth ranging from 3.00 to 5.00 meters, numerous wooden piles attached to the lake bed were discovered, as well as an abundant portable archaeological material chronologically dating from the end of the Bronze and the beginning of the Iron Age ie between 1200 BC to 700 BC. Virtual Sambor Prei Kuk by UCB

The Virtual Reconstruction Project of the centeral temple at Sambor Prei Kuk, in Cambodia, is an attempt to apply 21st century technology to 7th century cultural heritage. Sambor Prei Kuk (SPK) provides the earliest record of Khmer temples, predating better known (and better preserved) Angkor Wat by several centuries. Hence, the study of SPK is crucial for understanding the Khmer, pre-Angkorian tradition; and the subsequent development of temple cities such as Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
