The Hubble Ultra Deep Field in 3D

twitter.com facebook.com I've recently discovered an animation that was rendered using the measured redshift of all 10000 galaxies in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field image. I've written a short script that leads you through a quick history of both deep field images and this video ends with a fly-through of the Ultra Deep Field. Every galaxy in the image is in its proper distance as viewed from the telescope line of sight. As if this image wasn't amazing enough. Hubble Deep Field: The Most Imp. Image Ever Taken (Redux)

This is the latest incarnation of the HDF video. The narration has been edited to include research from a paper in Physical Review Letters (2004) which puts the size of the universe at 46.5 billion light years, not 78 billion as I originally stated. In the video narration, I round that value up to 47 billion light years. I also took out Numa Numa guy.

Hubble Ultra Deep Field 10000 Galaxies

Searching for the faintest objects in the Ultra Deep Field is like trying to find a firefly on the Moon. Light from the farthest objects reached the Hubble telescope in trickles rather than gushers. The orbiting observatory collected one photon of light per minute from the dimmest objects. Normally, the telescope collects millions of photons per minute from nearby galaxies. It took 400 orbits to make the observations. The image yields a rich harvest of about 10000 galaxies. The whole sky contains 12.7 million times more area than the Ultra Deep Field. To observe the entire sky would take almost 1 million years of uninterrupted observing.

READ FOR BEST VIEWING INSTRUCTIONS: - Watch this for context: www.youtube.com - Go find a pair of red and cyan 3D glasses - Watch in HD and FULLSCREEN, regular SD video loses the effect somewhat - Don't press the vuvuzela button. IF the sound is choppy then go join the html5 beta: www.youtube.com and try again. How I made this: - I downloaded the previous video from YouTube and extracted the section containing the animation. - Used ffmpeg to transcode the video into 1200 .jpeg frames - Wrote a program to shift every object with colour (all the galaxies) left and right and increase the values of the red and blue colours on either side. I then wrote a script and ran all 1200 frames through the program. - Used ffmpeg to repackage the .jpegs into a video. - FINALLY found a usable linux video editor (kdenlive) - Uploaded to youtube So I lied, it's not really /true/ HD - there's only one source video instead of two - but I think the fakery is at least half-convincing.

Ultra Deep Field Galaxies Profile

Ultra Deep Field Galaxies Profile Astronomers at the Space Telescope Science Institute today unveiled the deepest portrait of the visible universe ever achieved by humankind. Called the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF), the million-second-long exposure reveals the first galaxies to emerge from the so-called "dark ages," the time shortly after the big bang when the first stars reheated the cold, dark universe. The new image should offer new insights into what types of objects reheated the universe long ago. This historic new view is actually two separate images taken by Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) and the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-object Spectrometer (NICMOS). Both images reveal galaxies that are too faint to be seen by ground-based telescopes, or even in Hubble's previous faraway looks, called the Hubble Deep Fields (HDFs), taken in 1995 and 1998. Hubble Ultra Deep Field - Legendado

Ultra Deep Field - A maior Descoberta Já Feita - HD1080p

In 1995 and again in 2003, the Hubble Space Telescope stared for a little over 11 days at a rather unremarkable section of sky. Parts of the sky the width of a dime 75 feet away were intensely photographed. The results were amazing: Over 10000 galaxies were observed. Hubble Ultra Deep Field

The Hubble space telescope, launched into space on April 24, 1990 is one of the greatest successes of the American Space Agency (NASA). In 2004, the most distant image in the universe was obtained, showing about ten thousand galaxies, 13 billion light years distant from Earth. Therefore, we see these galaxies not as they are today, but as they were 13 billion years ago, since this was the time their light took to reach our eyes.

The Most Distant Galaxies Ever Seen

In August, after the last repair mission on the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers directed its newest camera towards the same area of sky where just five years ago, the first Hubble Ultra Deep field image was made and recorded a new one - this time in the near-infrared, a wavelength invisible to the human eye. Over the course of four days, the camera shutter was open for one hundred seventy three thousand seconds and astronomers collected photons that had left their galaxies over 13 billion years ago. Sensitive to slightly longer wavelengths than its predecessors, the newly installed camera known as Wide Field Camera three recorded objects that are likely the oldest galaxies ever identified, having formed only a few hundred million years after the Big Bang. Here are the results. [Music montage and interlude, couple minutes (music: Daemon portal)] Hubble's new camera looks closer towards the Big Bang than any of the earlier cameras on the Hubble Space Telescope because it collects light from near-infrared wavelengths. The expansion of the universe stretches light from hot young stars in these very distant galaxies out of the ultraviolet and visible regions of the spectrum and into near-infrared wavelengths, making them redder and invisible to the human eye. As we build instruments sensitive to longer and longer wavelengths, we are able to peer farther into the cosmos and each wavelength brings us views closer to the edge of the universe. When we focus our instruments <b>...</b>
