Michael L. Zwerling President and CEO Zwerling Broadcasting System, Ltd. Chairman and CEO ZBS Radio Associates, Ltd. Born 9 November 1951 in Santa Cruz, CA; son of Brooklyn, New York transplants Bernard (Optometrist) and Kay (Homemaker) Zwerling who had arrived in Santa Cruz just days before KSCO Radio AM 1080 went on the air (21 September 1947). Was baby of the family; asthmatic, allergic, relatively non-athletic nerd with a wonderful, happy, humorous disposition who loved radios, tape recorders, telephones, and other electronic apparatus. Despised by humorless third grade teacher who wanted talkative and playfully disruptive young MZ out of her class at any cost-so MZ was kicked ahead to 4th grade since there was no place else for him. Idolized KGO radio talk hosts during 1960's -- was once told by Ira Blue that many radio station doors would slam in your face until one day one would open, an arm will reach out and grab you, yank you in, and you won't be able to get out. Produced and hosted Santa Cruz High School On the Air on KSCO until January 1967 when Managing Partner Vern Berlin declared MZ persona non grata for making a fart noise on KSCO. Devastated MZ turned to breathing helium to talk like the chipmunks in class, playing recordings of Tiny Tim singing Tip ToeThrough the Tulips in Mr. Lissner's government class, and hypnotizing normally respectful and well-behaved classmates into being insolent, belligerent, defiant assholes to their most admiring teachers ...
