Tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who worked for the unity of muslims in India for a seprate homeland "PAKISTAN". He was suffering from tuberculosis & he didn't tell anybody about his disease as he knew that Britishers & Hindus will not give independence to muslims of Indian Subcontinent after his death. He died for the muslims of Indian Subcontinent for Pakistan. For Pakistan he was fighting at three fronts: British, Hindus & Tuberculosis & finally won the independence of PAKISTAN, the "Land of Pure". He was even offered the Prime Ministership of United India by Gandhi & Lord Mountbatten which he refused saying "I am fighting for the muslims of Indian Subcontinent not for Power". Thank you Quaid for giving us PAKISTAN, so that we can proudly call ourself a PAKISTANI anywhere in the world and live as an independent nation.

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi - Raga Sur Malhar - Monsoon Raga - Madhaya Laya Ektal - Drut Laya Teental

SwarBhaskar VishawaRatna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. ( 4th Feb 1922 - 24th Jan 2011 ) ======================================================== Mechanism of Monsoon....... Monsoon is a tropical phenomenon. Indian subcontinent, lying northwards of the equator up to the Himalayas and Hindukush, lies primarily in the tropical zone of the Northern Hemisphere. It involves winds blowing from the south-west direction (known as South-West Monsoon) from the Indian Ocean onto the Indian landmass during the months of June through September. These are generally rain-bearing winds, blowing from sea to land, and bring rains to most parts of the subcontinent. They split into two branches, the Arabian Sea Branch and the Bay of Bengal Branch near the southern-most end of the Indian Peninsula. They are eagerly awaited in most parts of India for their agricultural and economic importance. Subsequently later in the year, around October, these winds reverse direction and start blowing from north-east direction. Given their land to sea flow, from subcontinent onto the Indian Ocean, they have less moisture and bring rain to only limited parts of India like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. This is known as the North-East Monsoon. However, this rain is responsible for the rice bowls of South India. This mechanism completes the annual Monsoon cycle of the Indian subcontinent.

Surindar Kaur - Badnam Na Ho Jaye - Shaheed (1948)

***Remembering Master Ghulam Haider*** A great name in music in the history of the subcontinent. One of his biggest achievements was the discovery of two of the most popular female singers the subcontinent has ever produced, Lata Mangeshkar and our own Madam Noor Jehan. Master Ghulam Haider started his career in the 1930's and went on to achieve tremendous fame, popularity and respect in the times to come in the field of his choosing. His first film as a music composer, "Suvarg ki seehi" by Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj did not do well. Then came Punjabi film "Gul Bakaoli" by Seth Dilsukh M. Pancholi in 1938, It was a film in which a song "Shala Javanian Manein", by a ten year old Noor Jehan took Punjab y storm. But the film which could be named as being instrumental in shaping and lifting Master Ghulam Haider's careers was undoubtedly "Khazanchi". Its music changed the period of the Bengali musicians of Bombay and Calcutta. They were forced to adapt to the modern times after Khazanchi. After some time Syed Shaukat Husaain Rizvi made "Khandaan" in which Madam Noor Jehan appeared as a heroine for the first time. In this film, Master Ghulam Haider's music reached new heights as almost all the songs created waves in the subcontinent. Songs like "Mere ammi ka raaj bhala", "Panchi urh ja", "Merey liye jahan mein" were on everybody's lips in those days. And so, the success story continued. In time, he came to Lahore and started composing music for Pakistani films. Some of the films he ...

NDTV: India Better-off With Partition? -1/5

This is a solid panel discussion with leading scholars, columnists, intellectuals, and politicians on whether India has been better off with Partition. It represents a wide variety of perspectives and deals with such factors as: (a) flaws of the failed Cabinet Mission Plan that could have led to Balkanization of India; (b) disenchantment of Muslim immigrants from UP and Bihar with Punjabi domination in Pakistan; (c) historical existence of India as a unified "cultural" if not a "political" entity; (d) potential spillover in united India of Cold War power play and Middle Eastern religious politics; (e) extreme difficulty of integrating a "continental-size" country with a diverse population; (f) role of British in introducing and aggravating communal feelings between Hindus and Muslims; (g) redundancy of "minority syndrome" among Muslims in a unified Subcontinent; (h) extremely communally charged atmosphere in the 1940s that made Partition inevitable; (i) forging of an Indian "nation" after Partition via introduction of a Constitution and a liberal democracy; and (j) RSS "Akhand Bharat" ideology for reuniting the Subcontinent. The panel also discusses potential reunification of the Subcontinent and whether Muslims would have been better off in a united India. The panel discussion was hosted by Vikram Chandra, host of the weekly Indian TV program "The Big Fight", in Fall 2009 following publication of Jaswant Singh's book on Jinnah and Partition; the episode was titled "An ...

Partition of India - refugees displaced by the partition

In June 1947, leaders of the Congress Party and the Muslim League agreed that India would be divided along religious lines. Disputes over certain parts of the subcontinent have continued beyond 1947. Control over the province of Kashmir, led to two conflicts between India and Pakistan. In 1971, another conflict broke out when India supported the secession of Bangladesh (East Pakistan) from Pakistan. For many people, particularly those from the Punjab, the social and economic disruption caused by the Partition drove them to leave the subcontinent for Britain. Some had family who served in the British Army and for others, earlier patterns of migration meant that they had relatives already living in Britain. This film clip is from The Changing East India Part 2 and shows a map of India with population data, and various clips showing refugees displaced by the partition. Thisclip is taken from the Imperial War Museum's new online exhibition - 'Through My Eyes: Stories of conflict, belonging and identity.' The site can be accessed on www.throughmyeyes.org.uk. Aulia Allah - Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Ali Hajweri - Darbar Sharif in Lahore

************Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh*********** Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh is the most luminous figure of our history. While Muslim warriors conquered these parts of the sub-continent by force, the Muslim Saints identified themselves with the people, and interpreted Islam to them as a rational approach to better life in this world and hereafter. The people were not converted to Islam under any pressure of the armed forces; they accepted Islam voluntarily because of the appeal of the message of Islam as conveyed and preached by Muslim missionaries. By common consent Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh is a great Saint of the sub-continent. Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh was born in Ghazni, a small place in Afghanistan. Located at a higher altitude it is a cool place in summer. The winter is windy and cold. When Ghaznavids were in power, this town was known for its grandeur as it happened to be the capital of their empire. It is said, it is contemporary to Harrappan and Indus valley civilization. It was the centre of trade with "Khurasan" and Sindh. It was a medieval walled city with expensions of areas called "Mohallahs" developed outside the walled city. Two of these Mohallahs were known as "Hujwer" and "Jalab". Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh's, family lived in the locality of Hujwer. In his book Kashful Mahjub he cateforically prayed for Ghazno "becoming the abode of Saints and venerable men". Many books mention 400 AH or 1000 AD as date of birth but some writers by analysing the contemporary ...

An artistically plagiarised version of Hemant Kumar's melody by GA Chishti for Sassi. Artistically in the sense that Baba ji copied the tune but punctuated it with original pieces of interval music .More over the original solo song had separate male and female versions by Hemant Kumar ang Geeta Dutt but Baba Ji recoded it in the shape of a feminine duet. This song was thought to be the first one which lead an unendng parade of pirated songs in Sub continent but a few months back Dr Bukhari uploaded a video from an Indian film claiming that the first pirated song of Sub continent was in the voice of Geeta Dutt and musiced by SD Burman. This video is no more on youtube now. I request Dr Bukhari to reuplod it, otherwise this sacred duty I will have to perfom. A Hussain: Indo-Pak Federation

Altaf Hussain - Head of MQM, the third-largest political party in Pakistan - calls upon Pakistani and Indian leaders to learn from Europe and forge an EU-type federation. Despite centuries old legacy of hate and war, various nations of Europe have come together in the form of a unified block for their common good. Pakistan and India should follow the European example and move on from the bitter history of Partition for the sake of their poor masses and promote trade, travel, investment, and cultural exchanges via a united Subcontinent. This interview was conducted in June 2009 by Najam Sethi as part of a Dunya TV program. PLEASE READ MY COMMENTS ON THE VIDEO BEFORE WATCHING.

Majid Khan - Magnificent First One Day Hundred

A beautiful display of "stand and deliver" batting by the Majestic Majid Khan. Born on September 28, 1946, Majid is one of the great and certainly the first attacking new ball opener from the subcontinent. Before he came along, opening subcontinent batsmen were renowned for their defensive and dour technique. All grace and fluency, Majid played in the spirit of an English amateur of a bygone era. He was a renowned "walker" who never stood his ground for a decision if he knew he was out. More often than not, he gave the impression that the ball would never hurry him in his shot making. The top fast bowlers never flustered him or beat him for pace. He could play the hook shot better than most on any wicket against any bowler, and his cut shot, generally hit on the up was renowned for its timing and placement. Majid was a Cambridge Blue and he followed his father Jahangir Khan into Test cricket, though he never matched his father's feat of hitting a sparrow in flight at Lord's. Majid is one of the few batsmen to have scored a century before lunch in test match, and having hit five sixes in a county match.
