Victor's Cry Rallies To Win Shoemaker Mile At 21-1
Making his first appearance in a Grade 1, Victor's Cry used a strong finish to earn a surprise win in the $249500 Shoemaker Mile on Monday at Hollywood Park. The 67th running of the Shoemaker was the last of three stakes on the Memorial Day program, following the $66000 Willard L. Proctor Memorial and the $150000 Honeymoon Handicap. Dismissed at 21-1, Victor's Cry helped trigger a Pick Six carry-over of $150594 when racing resumes Friday. Post time is 7:05 pm and the Pick Six will begin with the third race. Owned by Equilete Stable and trained by Eoin Harty, Victor's Cry took advantage of a rapid pace to win for the second time in four starts this year. Ridden by Corey Nakatani, now riding regularly in Kentucky, saved ground while well off the lead, angled out in the stretch and was up to defeat 9-5 favorite Karelian by a head. The final time was 1:32.88, the fastest clocking in the Shoemaker since Designed For Luck won in 1:32.81 in 2004. In winning for the fifth time in 17 starts, Victor's Cry, who had run 6 ½ furlongs in his three previous races in 2010, increased his earnings to $350633. He paid $44.40, $12.60 and $7.20. "I was happy because I thought we were going to run third,'' said Harty. "Then, I saw them stopping and I thought he was going to run second. Then I saw they were really stopping and I just couldn't believe it. "I entered to win. I thought on paper it might set up well for his style of running. Gaylords - The Little Shoemaker (Original)
"The Little Shoemaker" was adapted from a French song entitled "Le petit cordonnier," by Rudi Revil. English lyrics were later added, and the best-selling version of this song was recorded by The Gaylords and was a hit for most of the summer of 1954. At about the same time a recording by Petula Clark became her first chart hit in the UK The Gaylords would have several more hits before breaking up and becoming just a duo billed as "Gaylord and Holiday". This recording became so popular with kids that even the Captain Kangaroo tv show used it for several segments during its morning run in the 50's.

The Legend of Zelda Confession time: I'm glad the new Zelda isn't cel-shaded. The Wind Waker was an incredible game that completely succeeded at what it attempted to do. There's a reason we awarded it Game of the Year in 2003, after all. It came closer to a living, breathing animated film than any other game I've ever seen. Same great Zelda formula and one-of-a-kind visuals... It's not that I didn't appreciate The Wind Waker's fanciful reimagining of the Zelda universe; I just like the Nintendo 64 Zeldas even more. The Ocarina of Time remains one of my all-time favorite games, even six years after its release, and that's saying something. To think that Nintendo is now going to revisit the same style with its next Zelda. Well, the thrill is palpable. The world that Nintendo created in The Ocarina of Time represented a new direction for the series. The previous games, namely A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening, were pretty kid-oriented and demonstrated a cartoonlike art style and childish protagonist. Ocarina gave Zelda an edge, though, by presenting a grown-up Link and a dystopian Hyrule in which the citizenry was again deeply in peril. And for once, Hyrule actually looked like it. The darker tone and unique visual flair of Ocarina, as well as Majora's Mask after it, felt like the proper, natural evolution of the Zelda series. So The Wind Waker's change of direction, while impressive in its own right, was jarring to a lot of fans. Nintendo managed to bring the classic <b>...</b>
