This is a video associated with a post about the BOSS SD-1 Super Overdrive pedal on www.guitartoneoverload.com. Gear used: Guitar: American Classics Custom Shop Stratocaster fitted with Kinman Pickups Amp: 1974 Fender Champ with VOLUME at 2.5, BASS at 10 and Treble at 2. Ibanez TS9 modded by Analogman and stock Boss SD-1 with various settings (see video). The Boss SD-1 is placed after the TS9 in the effect chain. The amp was miked with a Rode NT4 and recorded with a BOSS Micro-BR. The recording was transferred in Cubase to add some compression and reverb (just a hint). Boss SD-1 OVERDRIVE PEDAL SHOOTOUT Japan 1981 vs Taiwan 2005
A comparison between a Boss SD-1 overdrive pedal from 1981, which is the 1st year of production for this pedal, and a Boss SD-1 from 2005. The MIJ one has the Nec C4558C chip and the MIT has ths JRC 4558DD. I have used a Marshall JCM 800 amp and a fender stratocaster from 1999 with some upgrades (Duncan pickups and Floyd Rose tremolo among other upgrades). Both pedals have asymmetric circuits that "respond very well to the player's picking force. It produces a dynamic and smooth overdrive effect well suited to any type of rock music. The SD-1 is also poular as a booster pedal for valve amplifiers. Turn the distortion down and the level up and connect it in front of the amplifier. The higher input level will push the input valve of the amplifier harder producing more distortion from the amp itself. ENSONIQ SD-1 Demo - "Palette"
"$D-1 PALETTE" is one of the demos included on the sequencer OS disk with the ENSONIQ SD-1 32 voice synthesizer. The song is comprised of 18 sequences. The opening sequence features the "WIDEPUNCH" and "RUDE-GUITAR" patches. Later we hear "PEDAL-STEEL" and "HARMONICA" and a jazz sequence with "VIBROPHONE" and "ACOUSTIBASS" patches. Following this are some synth patches including "ASCENSION" "NU-MEANING" "OMNIVERSE" "ELEMENTS" and "SD1-PAD" and then the song concludes with a sequence making use of various orchestral patches. The SD-1 contains two permanent ROM banks of sound programs or "patches" and a third RAM bank into which programs could be loaded from disk. Unlike some demos where patches programmed specifically for the demo are loaded into RAM, this "Palette" demo uses the default "SD1-INTERNAL" RAM patch set. The sequences that are used in this song are labeled "-A-" through "-S-" and the song steps are A, C, D, E, Q, P, S, R, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O. Interestingly, a sequence labeled "-B-" which shows off more of the "RUDE-GUITAR" patch is loaded into the sequence banks but is not included in the song steps. It's my Panasonic HDC-SD1 AVCHD Digital SD Card Camcorder...for more info, check its Wikipedia link at en.wikipedia.org ...special thanks to AkihabaraNews.com for the video clip. To convert its compressed video files (which is not playable/readable in any common video players in PC or Mac) into common video format such as WMV, H.264, MP4, MPEG-2, etc. you should use the latest burning tools such as of Nero or alike that's capable to extract AVCHD video format. In my case, I'm using the Corel DVD Copy 6 Plus video converter software―which is able to read/extract AVCHD compressed raw HD video files. For video editing...I use the Microsoft Windows Vista Movie Maker. This cam is awesome! with HD video and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. AVCHD is acronym for―Advance Video Coding High Definition

Bamford SD1 Diesel Engine take-2
As cold starts are still tricky, requiring a lot of cranking, this is a hot start. The engine is still suffering from an internal water leak with a slow but steady drip from the base of the push rod tunnel (definately not the base of the cylinder liner). I tried some CarGo block sealant which initially seemed to stop the leak but it's now leaking again. I'm planning on buying another three bottles, running it for about three hours to get it really hot, and then draining the solution into containers so I can re-use it if the leak persists. If you know how to cure this leak on these engines please let me know.
