Taken From: In Sorte Diaboli Joachim Luetke explains the concept, symbolism, and story behind the video: "The Sacrilegious Scorn" is mainly a paraphrase on Christianity's core-symbolism and motives. Such examples are the Roman soldiers gambling over Christ's garment, the mockery of St. Michael the Archangel, driving Satan out of Heaven by stepping on him and pointing his sword onto him. Now we see this reversed, when the inaugurated Antichrist is doing that to St. Michael. I prefer the term Dark Emperor - not Antichrist, for the battle of "light" and "shadow" reaches back far beyond Christianity. We also witness the inauguration of the Dark Emperor in the Temple of the Baphomet, seeing him taking the oath as the new sovereign while celebrating a mockery of the Last Supper. The story culminates in the Dark Emperor showing up in front of his followers, bringing out blessings. The Empire of Darkness is then established. The overall look of the video is a bow to the legendary, unique style of Roger Corman, especially his adaptation of The Masque of The Red Death, featuring the unforgettable Vincent Price. www.hammerfilms.com This lifts the clip to an additional meta-level: The mockery of using an early 60's technique to visualize "The Sacrilegious Scorn" for a present day audience. Artist: Scorn Song: Spasm Album: Vae Solis Year: 1992 Track #: 1 of 13 The first incarnation of British industrial/dub music project Scorn was as a trio on their first album "Vae Solis" released by Earache Records. To say the least, the album was a reunion of three original and core members of the grindcore act Napalm Death: Mick Harris (drums), Nik Bullen (vocals, bass) and Justin K. Broadrick (guitars). This is the only album where Scorn was ever a trio, as well as the only to feature Justin on guitars. Interestingly, the three formed Scorn because they all were tired of the punk scene, as well as didn't like the death metal direction Napalm Death was taking. The three have always shared an interest in industrial music ala Swans, Throbbing Gristle and 60's psychedelia, so they decided to create Scorn (well, Mick and Nik were the official members, Justin was considered a "guest" on the album). This is the only Scorn album that is heavily guitar driven, as well as possess some heavier moments than future Scorn albums. It also is one of the few albums to heavily incorporate movie samples in songs. The album can be best described as a Godflesh meets Coil hybrid, full of droning guitars, reverb/dub style live drums, pitchshifted harsh vocals, and gritty production. Later Scorn releases would be more in the minimalistic industrial/dub vein where Mick Harris would be the only member in the group, whereas Nik would disappear from the music scene in 1994 after the release of the <b>...</b>

Phil Coulter Scorn Not his Simplicity
Another song by 'Ireland's Ambassador To Music' about a tragic moment in his life... Phil wrote his moving tribute to his first son, who was born (in the early 80's) with Downs Syndrome and died at the tender age of four years old. The song pleads for tolerance and understanding of his son and the syndrome. Not long after writing it he played it to the great Luke Kelly who because of the personal essence of the song felt that the song should not be sung except for special occasions, and not on every performance. Artist: Scorn (PCM remix) Album: Ellipsis Release date: 1995 Electronic / Dub / Experimental outfit fronted by Mick Harris (and from 1992 to 1994, Nik Bullen). Since 1994 Scorn has been the one-man project of former Napalm Death drummer Mick Harris. Musically, much of the output has been minimalist beats with an emphasis on very deep basslines, often resembling dub and trip-hop in structure. Despite these resemblances, Scorn is often associated with industrial and experimental music, and is considered a rare example of a successful industrial/downtempo crossover artist. Scorn is recorded in Mick Harris' home studio, "the box". Prior to the release Gyral, Scorn was a two man project with Harris and bassist/vocalist Nicholas Bullen. In fact, the first Scorn album, Vae Solis, featured a reunion of the three members of the original Napalm Death line up: Harris, Bullen, and Justin Broadrick, who played session guitars. Early Scorn had a very dubby, metal sound. Bullen was ejected from the band after a personal incident with Harris' friend, and Harris changed the focus of the band to what it is known now.
