Science fiction-Science fact

Whether it's Star Trek's USS Enterprise, or the iconic space station from 2001: A Space Odyssey, science fiction has always provided inspiration and ideas for the scientists and engineers that design and build real spacecraft. The, at times, fine line between science fiction literature and the developments in real life space activities provides the backdrop to ESA's latest Space-in-Bytes video lesson release, titled "Science fiction - science fact".

Vinge's latest novel, The Children of the Sky, will be released in October 2011.Produced by Paul Feine, Alex Manning and Zach Weissmueller. Approximately 7 minutes. Experimental Science Fiction Music

One of my first Kompoz projects. An attempt to create an otherworldly and disturbing score for a horror/sci-fi film. I'm something of a Bernard Herrmann fan. Bernard Herrmann did scores for the original version of the Twilight Zone on TV. He also did the music for Psycho, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Vertigo, Fahrenheit 451, and Cape Fear to name a few. So there is some of his influence here, and also Forbidden Planet's music by Bebe Barron and her husband Louis, a completely electronic score where it's hard to tell the music from the background sound effects, they merge into one. The sound of that film, as far as I know, remains unique in its strange and alien sound even today. Kompoz site: www.kompoz.com My site on Kompoz: www.kompoz.com

Top 10 Science Fiction Movies

Science fiction film is a film genre that uses science fiction: speculative, science-based depictions of phenomena that are not necessarily accepted by mainstream science, such as extra-terrestrial life forms, alien worlds, ESP, and time travel, often along with futuristic elements such as spacecraft, robots, or other technologies. Science fiction films have often been used to focus on political or social issues, and to explore philosophical issues like the human condition. In many cases, tropes derived from written science fiction may be used by filmmakers ignorant of or at best indifferent to the standards of scientific plausibility and plot logic to which written science fiction is traditionally held. The genre has existed since the early years of silent cinema, when Georges Melies' A Trip to the Moon (1902) amazed audiences with its trick photography effects. The next major example in the genre was the 1927 film Metropolis. From the 1930s to the 1950s, the genre consisted mainly of low-budget B-movies. After Stanley Kubrick's 1968 landmark 2001: A Space Odyssey, the science fiction film genre was taken more seriously. In the late 1970s, big-budget science fiction films filled with special effects became popular with audiences and paved the way for the blockbuster hits of subsequent decades. 10. The Best Science Fiction films from all over the World (Non-American) (Part 3)

I created this list in response to many comments in my other clips. Many people noticed that in the sci fi list previously shown i didn't list many movies from other countries. Well this was mainly because i was planning another list with other movies from various latitudes: Europe, Soviet Union, Latin America and even Oceania. Why two lists? Well maybe because it would be easier to appreciate the differences between average films from the west (mainly american) and films of different styles and themes from others countries (both eastern and Western): In the third part you will see: 18.- Doroga k zvezdam (Roas to the Stars) (1958) 17.- Ikarie XB 1 (1963) 16.- Cube (1997) 15.- Sleep Dealer (2008) 14.- Le Dernier Combat (1983) 13.- Na Srebrnym globie (The Silver Globe) (1988) (I didn't put the year of this movie in the clip, sorry) The music comes from Franz Falckenhaus (legowelt) album of 2008: "The Lost Border". Tracks: "The tragic sadness of FF" and "Manhunter". I remind you that this is a personal list, i have seen every movie in the videos, so you can ask me everything you want. Also you can comment whatever you want (with respect...maybe some of the viewers will think i'm wrong, but i hope you watch all the videos before you post your comments). I hope you like it!!!! Psychtronic scene from Soviet science fiction film 1959

Soviet SF flick from 1959 (think Sputnik). Rocket launch scene. Film was "Nebo Zovyot" (the heavens call), which has never been released in the west. Like all Soviet films the movie is stunningly dull, but the visuals are wonderful and truly capture the period. Roger Corman bought rights to Nebo Zovyot and used the special effects in two wonderful, campy flicks: Battle Beyond the Sun and Planet of Blood, both highly recommended for fans of the psychotronic. Francis Ford Copolla was the associate producer of one of them! Both of Corman's films are available on Amazon.com. The original russian version of Nebo Zovyot is no where to be found. Would love to buy a copy if anyone has a lead on where to find it!!
