I wasn't sure what this was until I came across this fantastic description on Sheffield's City council website (all text copyright by them): "As part of a programme of improvements around Rotherham railway station, Rotherham MBC proposed to demolish the disused grain warehouse on the adjacent canal-side. As it reflected an important phase of the town's development, SYAS advised that a detailed record of the building should be. This work was delayed by nesting birds in the ivy growing on the walls of the building. Recording was completed following the departure of the birds in September. The building was constructed as a stable and warehouse in around 1903 by the River Dun Navigation Company. By 1916, however, the building was leased out and was occupied by JF Darley & Son, glass and china dealers. It was later leased by North Notts Farmers Ltd, for use as a grain warehouse. Most recently, the building was occupied by The Bistro Boat Company. The stables would have housed horses used to tow boats along the canal, while the warehouse would have been used to store and transfer products to and from the boats. The elevation fronting the canal retained large taking-in doors at both ground and first floors; an internal jib crane on the first floor could be rotated outwards over the canal. The general layout of the building was found to closely correspond to that shown on the 1903 plans for the building, located during archival research."
