The interview was conducted backstage at a taping for Global's Canada Sings! where Van Winkle joins Jann Arden and Pierre Bouvier as the judging panel for the show where office singing groups are pitted against each other to win money for charity. I talk to Rob about the show, what's next for him and surprise him with a gift!

Vanilla Ice - Too Cold

Robert Matthew Van Winkle (born October 31, 1967), best known as Vanilla Ice, is an American rapper known for the 1990 smash hit "Ice Ice Baby." One of the first white rappers to find mainstream success, Van Winkle's popularity was short lived. He has continued to make music, but has not recaptured the levels of fame he enjoyed earlier in his career. It was widely reported that Van Winkle had been threatened and assaulted by Death Row Records CEO, who forced Van Winkle to sign the publishing rights to him. Van Winkle stated that Knight took him "to the balcony and talked to me, but it's funny how the story gets turned around...I'm wondering how that story got changed around". In 1996, he appeared on the Bloodhound Gang track "Boom" under his real name, which led to a moderate revival in popularity, and thus the first new Vanilla Ice material in four years. SBK had signed him to a new deal, and Hard to Swallow was released in 1998 and produced by Ross Robinson, known for his work with bands such as Korn and Limp Bizkit. The album was radically different from Van Winkle's previous works, as it was centered around nu metal rather than hip hop. Guest artists on the album included Doug Ardito of Puddle of Mudd and Scott Borland. Though the record eventually went gold, it soon slipped from public consciousness.

Vanilla Ice - DETONATOR (music video)

Transongeist Media Presents: I noticed that one of Vanilla Ice's best song is not on YouTube and decided to share it with the masses. But I found it unjustified to simply upload the song to a VIDEO site, so I edited together this music video with highlights from Ice's career ranging from 1988-2011. Featured in the video is of course Vanilla Ice and the VIP (The Vanilla Ice Posse) throughout the years. Some of the Posse worth mentioning that appear include Earthquake, Zero, DJ Dirty Chopstixx, Clint Eastwood, E-Roc, Squirrel, Tommy Quan, Juice, Deshay and Hi-Tec. If you keep your eyes WIDE OPEN you might see small cameos by MC Hammer, Bloodhound Gang, Naomi Campbell, Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, Jedward, Chris Kattan and other celebrities who've met the Iceman. Video edited by Bjarni Gautur. The song is Detonator and is from the album Bi-Polar (2001). Vanilla Ice - biography Robert Van Winkle was born on Halloween in 1967. His parents divorced when he was young so he took turns living in Miami and in Dallas. During his teenage years, Winkle became interested in breakdancing and was shortly nicknamed 'Vanilla' because he was the only caucasian member in his breakdancing group. Others interest such as rapping started developing during freestyle battles at underage keg parties, which is how Vanilla's nickname was slightly altered to Vanilla Ice. At the age of 16, Vanilla Ice and the VIP started performing as opening acts in Tommy Quon's Dallas nightclub known as City Lights. It ...

jass foley | Vanilla Ice Shoot

Behind the scene at my editorial shoot with Rob Van Winkle- Vanilla Ice. I had 2 hours notice for this one, so couldn't do anything over the top. I built the lighting around a sofa in a spare dressing room- harsh key and soft on-axis fill. The softbox was there mainly to give me more options depending on how it was going, but my original idea paid off. With thanks to Jenny May Finn and Cian Markey for assisting, Shea McNelis and The Helix staff. Music by Mc Cullah.

Vanilla Ice - Roll'em up [1994] [HQ]

Robert Matthew Van Winkle (born October 31, 1967), best known by his stage name Vanilla Ice, is an American rapper, extreme athlete and home improvement television personality. Born in South Dallas, and raised in Texas and South Florida, Van Winkle released his debut album, Hooked, in 1989 through Ichiban Records, before signing a contract with SBK Records, a record label of the EMI Group which released a reformatted version of the album under the title To the Extreme. Van Winkle's single "Ice Ice Baby" was the first hip hop single to top the Billboard charts. Although Van Winkle was successful, he later regretted his business arrangements with SBK, which had paid him to adopt a more commercial appearance to appeal to a mass audience and published fabricated biographical information without his knowledge. After surviving a suicide attempt, Van Winkle was inspired to change his musical style and lifestyle. While later albums by Van Winkle haven't charted or featured much radio airplay because of their less mainstream, rock-oriented sound, Vanilla Ice has had a loyal underground following. In 2009, Van Winkle began hosting The Vanilla Ice Project on DIY Network. His latest album WTF -- Wisdom, Tenacity & Focus was released in August 2011. Van Winkle is currently signed to Psychopathic Records.

Welcome To Deathrow Record's Documentary - [Part 1]

In the late '80's, producer Andre "Dr. Dre" Young was a member of the gangsta rap group NWA, signed to fellow member Eric "Eazy-E" Wright's Ruthless Records. As head of production at the label, Dre produced a large number of Ruthless projects, many of them high-selling; feeling the pressures of having to produce so many acts, Dre became interested Ruthless[3]. After the departure of Ice Cube over financial disagreements with Heller[4], artist and friend The DOC and friend Suge Knight went over the books with a lawyer. Convinced that Heller was dishonest, they approached Young about forming a label with them, away from Heller and Eazy-E[5]. Allegedly using strong-arm tactics, Knight was able to procure contracts from Eazy for The DOC, Dr. Dre and singer Michel'le[6]. Knight approached successful rapper Robert "Vanilla Ice" Van Winkle, using management connections with rapper Mario "Chocolate" Johnson, claiming that Johnson had written and produced the song, and had not received credit or royalties for the song.[7] Knight and two bodyguards arrived at The Palm in West Hollywood, where Van Winkle was eating. After shoving Van Winkle's bodyguards aside, Knight and his own bodyguards sat down in front of Van Winkle, staring at him before finally asking "How you doin'?"[7] Similar incidents were repeated on several occasions before Knight showed up at Van Winkle's hotel suite on the fifteenth floor of the Bel Age Hotel, accompanied by Johnson and a member of the Oakland Raiders ...
