To the joy of millions, ITV returned on Wednesday, 24th October, 1979, after some 11 weeks off the air. For the first five days, a National Service was broadcast from Thames Television and LWT, but certainly the larger regions were using their own continuity by day 2. Here's how Yorkshire Television returned, followed by a showcase of favourite programmes and the start of Thames Television's "Quatermass" and the premiere of "Chinatown". Of course, the first night back included the return of "Crossroads" and "Coronation Street", which unfortunately we haven't got. The two soaps included introductions from Noele Gordon ("Crossroads") and Peter Adamson and Julie Goodyear ("Coronation Street") in the hope of reminding loyal fans what was happening when the soaps went off the air at the beginning of August!
