The NDA just came off moments ago and now we can give you the full run-down on the ASRock X79 Overclock King Series of motherboards based off the new platform. Last week we met up with Chris Lee, Director of Marketing, at the ASRock HQ here in Taipei where he gave us a full introduction to its first batch of X79 motherboards. ASRock is launching with five X79 boards right now including the Extreme3, Extreme4-M (Micro-ATX), Extreme4, Extreme7 and the Extreme9. We spent most of our time in the video above focused on the top-dog, the ASRock X79 Extreme9. This board is packed out with loads of good features including eight DDR3 DIMM slots for quad-channel memory support, five PCI-E x16 slots, active fan cooling for the X79 chipset, loads of SATA-III ports and full digital VRM power management with 18 phases of power for RAM (2) and CPU (16). One of the big additions with the Extreme9 is the bundle inclusion of the ASRock Game Blaster which is a PCI-E x1 add-on audio and LAN card which uses the quad-core Creative SoundCore 3D audio processing chip for greatly improved gaming audio support over usual onboard audio usually found on most motherboards. www.tweaktown.com On the weekend of the 25th and 26th of November 2011 saw the second extreme overclocking workshop in Australia for the year. This time around, GIGABYTE had joined forces with Corsair, AMD and Umart Online to bring us and our crazy cooling to Brisbane, Australia. The format is easy - give Australian computer enthusiasts an opportunity to try their hand at extreme overclocking with liquid nitrogen. Applications were taken online at top enthusiast websites within Australia, 16 names were picked at random and they were divided in to four groups and mentored by a member of TeamAU. TeamAU is a group of Australian and New Zealand computer enthusiasts that have taken overclocking to a whole different level. It's where temperatures of -180 degrees Celsius, crazy voltage modifications and the need for multiple power supplies are common place. The members in attendance were Dinos22 (Dino), Youngpro (James), SniperOz (Carl) and myself Deanzo (Dean). Those who were not lucky enough to make it into the top 16 had the opportunity to come along as a spectator. It was a very hands-on workshop. The participants were the ones that changed BIOS settings, poured liquid nitrogen and where needed controlled the temperature on the CPU and the video card, as well as keeping a constant supply of liquid nitrogen at the tables from the big 180lter dewers. And it was all done in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

A lot of people wanted to see 5GHz on the i5 2500K, so I spent the weekend playing with settings and I think I've finally found a stable overclock. Does 15 minutes of Prime 95 and maxes out at under 80c with the Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler on a testbench (not in a case, case temps will be ~5-10c higher). Motherboard is the Asrock Z68 Fatal1ty Professional Gen 3. This should work with the i7 2600K as well. You can probably run much lower voltages on the i7 2700K. Got my GameBoy Color overclocked using my FPGA. Took me 12 hours or so to get it running because it was my first REAL project. After some more research, turns out that the GameBoy games overclock much higher, then GameBoy Color games. Thats why Super Mario Brothers Deluxe crashed...
