Mexico City - The Biggest City in The World

Mexico City is the financial center of Latin America and virtually every foreign and domestic corporation has operations in the city. It produces an amazing 25% of Mexicos $815 billion economy making Mexico City alone the 30th largest economy in the world! In addition, it is one of the most important cultural centers in the world boasting more museums than any other city. It is also the fourth city in number of theaters just behind New York, London and Toronto. Every skyscraper in Mexico City is a monument to engineering. Mexico City is not only located in a major earthquake zone but it is also built over a lake which creates a very unstable foundation for high-rise construction. Yet, Mexico City had its first 40-story skyscraper almost half a century ago when the Torre Lationoamericana, the tallest building in Latin America at the time, was built. Today, there are hundreds of skyscrapers challenging nature in Mexico Citys skyline.

Globe Trekker - Globe Trekker- Mexico City Guide featuring Justine Shapiro

Justine Shapiro travels to Mexico City, a melee of modern sky scrapers, Indian markets and Spanish churches where most of Mexico's political, cultural, and economic life has been centered for thousands of years. After finding a cheap place to stay, Justine is keen to get her first taste of city life straight away. Her first stop is La Merced market. There's been a market on the site since the Aztec era and now its one of the city's largest food markets, boasting 150 varieties of that Mexican staple, the chili, as well as cactus, chicken guts, bugs and mosquito eggs. Justine samples as much as she can stomach, then pays a visit to a glass-blowing workshop. Less than an hour's bus ride away is the ancient Aztec site of Teotihuacan. It was a major city in 400 or 500 AD, but all the records and artwork were destroyed so archaeologists can only guess at the cause of its ruin. Teotihuacan is best known for its two gigantic pyramids, one to the sun and one to the moon. After climbing the steep steps to the summit Justine takes in an incredible view of the whole site. Back in Mexico City Justine meets up with Tommy Glasford, a North American artist who with a studio in the Zocolo, the main square. After showing her around his studio, Tommy takes Justine on a history-packed whistle-stop tour of the Zocolo. Her visit to the Museum of Anthropology is a little more leisurely and her guide knows all the gruesome history behind each archaeological treasure. Justine just can't spend ...

Mexico City : A Modern Knowledge City [HD]

As in any megacity, Mexico City faces a variety of environmental challenges. Urban growth, combined with a rising middle class population, today requires innovative thinking and policies in urban planning, transportation, air pollution, water scarcity and solid waste, among others. Mexico City has adopted a 15-year Green Plan to address these environmental challenges simultaneously. Mexico City is also providing global leadership to promote sustainability among world cities; a recent global summit of mayors, hosted by Mayor Marcelo Ebrard, resulted in more than 300 cities signing The Mexico City Pact, an agreement to address climate change and reduce GHG emissions.

URBAN EARTH: MEXICO CITY

URBAN EARTH is a project to (re)present our habitat by walking across some of Earth's biggest urban areas. The media distorts the way we see our world(s) with stereotypical images highlighting the most extremes of places. URBAN EARTH aims to expose what our cities really look like away from the bias and spin of commercial agendas. URBAN EARTH: MEXICO CITY was created over three days in July 2008 and is made up of 6423 images... one for every 8 steps of the walk (roughly). URBAN EARTH is a movement that anyone can join - just find an urban area and walk across it. URBAN EARTH is an opportunity for adventure, exploration, freedom, community activism and dialogue. Find out more at www.geographycollective.co.uk. URBAN EARTH ROUTES Geography is more important than many people think. A random route across a city may expose many things, but an URBAN EARTH walk is special because it attempts to reveal what a city is like for the people who live in it. URBAN EARTH is not about following the tourist trail or tracking down the most extreme places... it is about finding normality. The route was carefully designed to show the distribution of wealth within the city. For example where the poorest 20% of the population might occupy 14% of urban space, roughly 14% of the walk travels through these most deprived areas. The length of the walk is also propotionate to the size of the city. Where possible the route also travels through areas with the greatest population densities. Download ...

Freezing Action - A Lighting Lesson in Mexico City

By Jay P. Morgan. I had the opportunity to shoot Rafael Marquez in Mexico City for the FMF. He is a world class soccer player for Mexico and a great guy. We were going to shoot several shots that would need to freeze him in mid air as he kicked the ball. We had limited time with him so it was necessary that things were planed out and ready to go when he arrived. We took two Hensel speed max heads that have the fastest flash duration of any mono block head available. The goal was to use them as our key lights and freeze his action in mid air. We shot background plates the day before at the ruins outside of Mexico City for him to be retouched into. The idea being famous soccer players in action shots at different iconic sites of Mexico. The retouching is worth taking a look at on our Facebook page. I got Julene to talk about how she did the work. Go to www.facebook.com/theslantedlens1 to see her video. It was a great shoot and I hope you enjoy the video. Check out my Twitter @theslandlens to enter in our photography gear giveaway featuring products from Custom SLR (www.customslr.com.) Strong Earthquake Shakes Mexico City To Acapulco 12/11/11

Mirrored from Poulter27 MEXICO CITY — A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck in Mexico's western Guerrero state Saturday night, shaking buildings and causing panic in the nation's capital and the Pacific resort of Acapulco. Officials said at least three people died, but there were no reports of widespread damage. The US Geological Service initially estimated the quake at magnitude at 6.8, but downgraded it to 6.7 and then 6.5. A quake of that magnitude is capable of causing severe damage, although the depth of this temblor lessened its impact. Credit AP News News Link: www.washingtonpost.com

Mexico City Tour - Travel Documentary

Mexico is located at about 23° N and 102° W in the southern portion of North America. It is also located in a region known as Middle America. Almost all of Mexico lies in the North American Plate, with small parts of the Baja California peninsula on the Pacific and Cocos Plates. Geophysically, some geographers include the territory east of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (around 12% of the total) within Central America. Geopolitically, however, Mexico is considered part of North America.[
