Local Hero (HD)
Local Hero is a 1983 Scottish film starring Peter Riegert, Denis Lawson, Peter Capaldi and Burt Lancaster. It was directed by Bill Forsyth and produced by David Puttnam. The film is set in the fictional fishing village of Ferness on the west coast of Scotland. A young representative of an American oil company is sent to the village on a mission. The film features a notable ensemble of character parts. The film's soundtrack, which outsold the film itself, was written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, and is considered amongst his best work. This has led to the popularity of the film with fans of the band; Knopfler has since performed an arrangement of the main theme music ("Going Home") as an encore at many of his concerts. 'Local Hero' from the soundtrack is played as Newcastle United take to the field in their home games played at St James' Park.

This is the fourth film from the pen of Writer/Director Bill Forsyth and follows on from the success of 'That Sinking Feeling' in 1980; 'Gregory's Girl' in 1981; and the lesser-known 'Andrina' (also 1981). Oil billionaire Felix Happer (Burt Lancaster) sends Mac (Peter Riegert) to a remote Scotish village to secure the property rights for an oil refinery they want to build. Mac teams up with Danny and starts the negotiations, the locals are keen to get their hands on the 'Silver Dollar' and can't believe their luck. However a local hermit and beach scavenger, Ben Knox (Fulton Mackay), lives in a shack on the crucial beach which he also owns. Happer is more interested in the Northern Lights and Danny (Peter Capaldi) in a surreal girl with webbed feet, Marina (Jenny Seagrove). Mac is used to a Houston office with fax machines but is forced to negotiate on Bens terms.

Utah local Alex Scholpy made his runs count today by topping the podium with a 94.50. He started things off by taking the right side line onto the first box with a front 360 switch up transfer, blind 360 switch onto the second box with a blind 270 out, a blind 630 out of the cannon rail with a mute grab, a huge left 900 double Japan on the first jump, capping it off with a fluid switch 1440 to really impress the judges and secure the top spot. Schlopy was thrilled to win on his close-to-home turf, thanking Utah and the local fans for making this "more fun for everyone." And of course, "there's nobody I'd rather have on the podium next to me than Joss."
