POETRY IN MOTION ~ Johnny Tillotson 1960.wmv

POETRY IN MOTION ~ Johnny Tillotson ~ 1960 ~ Cadence Records. This is the tune that made Johnny Tillotson a "Teen Idol" . Others included: DREAMY EYES, WITHOUT YOU, & IT KEEPS RIGHT ON-A HURTIN'. POETRY IN MOTION is one of my personal favorites because of "the sound". It rates with Bobby Darin's DREAM LOVER, Steve Lawrence's PRETTY BLUE EYES, Bobby Rydell's LITTLE BITTY GIRL & Paul Anka's PUT YOUR HEAD ON MY SHOULDER. It's all in "the sound" . Johnny Tillotson performed POETRY IN MOTION on Dick Clark's AMERICAN BANDSTAND on Thursday - September 22, 1960. The song first hit the charts on October 10, 1960, stayed on the charts for 15 weeks , & peaked at #2.

Johnny Tillotson - Pledging my love. orginale Song

Forever My Darling orginale ore Pledging my love Johnny Tillotson (born April 20, 1939, Jacksonville, Florida;[1] raised in Palatka) is an American singer and songwriter. Tillotson enjoyed his greatest success in the early 1960s when he scored a series of Top Ten hits including "Poetry in Motion" and the self-penned "It Keeps Right on a-Hurtin'."[1] In total, he placed 30 singles and albums in the Billboard charts between 1958 and 1984, most of them in the pop chart, though he also reached the country, R&B, and easy listening charts.[1] His string of hits allowed him to establish a performing career both in the US and around the world, that kept him steadily working well into the 21st century. He was the son of Jack Tillotson, a country music disc jockey, and Doris Tillotson.[1] When Tillotson was nine, he moved 40 miles to the smaller Florida town of Palatka.[1] He got his first exposure as a singer on his father's radio station while he was still a child.[1] His primary interest was country music, although he was inspired when he saw Elvis Presley perform in Jacksonville on May 13, 1955, just after he had turned 14.[1] While still in high school, Tillotson was making records and performing on stage; as a student at the University of Florida, he had his own musical variety show on regional television.[1] Following graduation in 1959 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Communications, he signed with Cadence Records and moved to New York City to pursue his music career

He was born in Jacksonville, Florida but, at nine years old, he was given the responsibility to take care of his grandmother in Palatka, Florida, some 50 miles away. He traveled back to Jacksonville to be with his parents each summer. It was at this early age that he decided to be a singer and with the encouragement of his Mother and Grandmother, Johnny began to perform at local functions and on the radio. By the time he entered Palatka Sr. High School, he had quite a reputation as a talented singer throughout the state of Florida. His first television appearance was as a guest on the "Toby Dowdy Show". Johnny's performance produced a steady stream of fan mail and resulted in a three year contract as a regular on the country-oriented show. When the "Toby Dowdy Show" went off the air, Johnny had the opportunity to do his own show. He successfully juggled his weekly TV show and his studies at the University of Florida until graduation. It was during these years that Johnny began writing songs. In 1957, a local DJ submitted a tape of Johnny's singing to the National Pet Milk Talent Contest. Johnny was chosen as one of the 6 national winners from this tape, which afforded him ...

Johnny Tillotson - Rhythm Of The Rain

Johnny Tillotson - Rhythm Of The Rain 1963. Lyrics. Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain (Oh listen to the falling rain) Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Telling me just what a fool I've been I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain And let me be alone again The only girl I care about has gone away Looking for a brand new start But little does she know when she left that day Along with her she took my heart Rrain please tell me now does that seem fair For her they steal my heart away when she don't care I can't love another and my heart's somewehere far away The only girl I care about has gone away... Rain won't you tell her that I love her so Please ask the sun to set her heart aglow Rain in her heart and let the love we knew start to grow Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Telling me just what a fool I've been I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain And let me be alone again Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Listen (listen to the rhythm of the falling rain) Listen (listen to the rhythm of the falling rain)

Johnny Tillotson - It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin' (Original Stereo)

One of the all-time great country recordings sung and written by a performer, Johnny Tillotson, who didn't at first set out to be a country and western star. Although this Florida native's father was a country and western disc jockey, Johnny's initial recordings were more in the mold of rock with his first hit "Poetry In Motion" peaking at #2 on the pop charts in October of 1960. In 1962 Johnny's father became terminally ill and he wrote "It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin" with him in mind. The song went to #3 in the nation in May of '62 and became his first hit on the country charts as well.
