Japanese song (for Seiji Kojima) composed and performed by David W Solomons dwsolo.load.cd This "song" for classical guitar is based on an original melody using a minor pentatonic scale, in quasi-Japanese style, with many effective classical guitar techniques and variations. I wrote this "song" for a friend at Oxford University by the name of Seiji Kojima, back in 1975. The notes of the melody reflect the sound of his name. I have since discovered that he is now the Japanese ambassador to Pakistan - how things move on!

Well, it's either push the edge or fall off the ledge, that's how it feels this morning 1've got my rouge-pink sky, my purple mountain nearby and it seems like a very good day to be born in. Oh holy light...you push me through what I could never get through... do we call this a second sight? So no, I'm not sad, I'm feeling good...in fact in many ways I've never felt better. I'm back from the war between should and bad and I know me now...down to the letter. The hardest thing I ever tried to do is stay in one place and just try to come through. I love me some now, I want to love you true, and spend some time in the garden. Oh, the suspense of it all... a little seed in the soil, a little sunshine and toil... can we call it a second sense? I can't wait for those carrots to push through, can't wait for the smell of the morning dew. I'll plant a sunflower and a rosebush too, and say...Maya You know, day after day in the driver's seat is not always the greatest place to be. You've got to be watching for potholes and places to eat, and that can make you stressful company. And to never know when a Dear might show in your path and you have to drive more carefully. It seems like I've been driving now for a long, long time...Am I taking this driving thing seriously. Oh, the romance of it all...Somebody tells you it's <b>...</b>

Tijdens zijn studie vond hij aansluiting bij de bloeiende Amsterdamse jazzscene, en trad in wisselende combinaties op met oa JCTans, Nedly Elstak, Sean Bergin, Curtis Clark, Theo Loevendie, Nico Bunink, Hans Dulfer, Steve Lacy, George Lewis, Lee Konitz, Uri Caine, Teddy Edwards, Benny Maupin, Paul Termos, Jimmy Knepper, John Zorn, Bud Shank, Art Hodes en Don Byron, vaak samen met slagwerker Han Bennink. Daarnaast maakte hij ook enige jaren deel uit van het ASKO-ensemble. Hij componeerde diverse stukken voor het JC Tans Orchestra, het NOS Jazz Festival (1987), Bimhuis Summer Sessions (1993), Ebony Strijkkwartet (2000). Ook schreef hij muziek bij documentaires en korte films, zoals 'Lagonda' van Robin van Erven Dorens en 'Stad Aan De Haven' (2008) van Annegien Haselager/Nikki Boomkens. In 2004 startte hij zijn eigen label "Favorite", waarop onder meer opnames van Curtis Clark, BBG en Glerum Omnibus werden uitgebracht. Ernst Glerum maakt oa deel uit van het Instant Composers Pool Orkest, Guus Janssen Trio, Amsterdam String Trio, Available Jelly, Benjamin Herman Quartet en BBG (Bennink/Borstlap/Glerum).
