And there's a lot of people who forget this. A metronome is what humanity needs most. If there was someone who could implant a metronome at earth's core, maybe we'd be closer to peace. People misunderstand each other. Races and peoples live mismatched, because they don't remember the metronome they keep in their bodies: the heart. God gave Brazil this geometrical form of a heart. And there's a throbbing rhythm in all countrymen, especially those from the northeastern region: this sense of rhythm, heart, this unit of movement, this sensitive metronome. My friends, it was with this thought that I became a musician. It was because of this that I became a deep and eternal slave of this country's things. And I don't have any special gift for speaking or writing, but I do have a gift for sounds and rhythm. And I transcribe in sounds and rhythm this crazy love I have for my nation. This is my presentation. This is, in principle, the justification of all I've been doing for Brazil so far. I apologise for talking a little about my life, regarding Brazil. Guiomar Novaes (1895-1979) Brazilian musician, child prodigy who was considered the greatest woman pianist for most of the 20th century. Born in Sao Joao da Boa Vista,SP, she was the 17th of 19 children. Initially she studied with L.Chiafarelli. With aid by the brazilian government Mme Novaes was sent to audition for admittance to the Paris Conservatory before a jury of Cl. Debussy, G. Faure, M. Moskowski ao The jury selected her from 389 other participants and she studied with Is. Philipp, graduating in 1911. Concert tours in France, England and Italy. She used to be the star of the Concerts Colonne. American debut in 1915. In Theatro Municipal de Sao Paulo in 1922. Mme Novaes has been admired for her intense, intimate and charming interpretations particularly of music by romantic composers. She represents the French piano taste and she is a model of limpid technique. She has also performed works by south American composers like the famous brazilian Heitor Villa Lobos and Octavio Pinto, her husband. Mme Novaes was awarded the Brazilian Order of Merit in 1956.

www.erichenderson.Org Heitor Villa Lobos's Etude No. 1, is part of Villa Lobos's 12 studies for guitar and was published in Paris in the year 1929. Performed by Eric Herderson. Henderson at 13, Eric was invited to Spain to become one of only three people to study privately with the master guitarist Andres Segovia. Eric J. Henderson spent the next four to five years in Spain learning the intricacies of the classical guitar, while playing as much as 12 hours per day. In addition to Andres Segovia, Henderson has studied guitar with other classical guitarist such as Christopher Parkening, Angel Romero, Ernesto Bitetti, Emilio Pujol and Antonia Morales. He has studied Baroque interpretation with Ton Koopman and Henk Dekker, and theory and composition with Aureo Hererro.
