In Fear the Boom and Bust, John Maynard Keynes and FA Hayek, two of the great economists of the 20th century, come back to life to attend an economics conference on the economic crisis. Before the conference begins, and at the insistence of Lord Keynes, they go out for a night on the town and sing about why there's a "boom and bust" cycle in modern economies and good reason to fear it. Fight of the Century: Keynes vs. Hayek Round Two

Go to econstories.tv for EconStories content and materials. Produced by Emergent Order. Visit us at http "Fight of the Century" is the new economics hip-hop music video by John Papola and Russ Roberts at EconStories.tv. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Great Recession ended almost two years ago, in the summer of 2009. Yet we're all uneasy. Job growth has been disappointing. The recovery seems fragile. Where should we head from here? Is that question even meaningful? Can the government steer the economy or have past attempts helped create the mess we're still in? In "Fight of the Century", Keynes and Hayek weigh in on these central questions. Do we need more government spending or less? What's the evidence that government spending promotes prosperity in troubled times? Can war or natural disasters paradoxically be good for an economy in a slump? Should more spending come from the top down or from the bottom up? What are the ultimate sources of prosperity? Keynes and Hayek never agreed on the answers to these questions and they still don't. Let's listen to the greats. See Keynes and Hayek throwing down in "Fight of the Century"! Starring Billy and Adam from http Visit www.econstories.tv for the full lyrics.

I'm in Love with Friedrich Hayek

A love song for economist FA Hayek. Original song by Dorian Electra. Filmed by Clara Lee, Madeline Scholl, and Ciaran Finlayson. Lyrics: Hey there Freidrich Hayek, ya lookin really nice Your methodology is oh so precise You break down social science to the fundamentals Rules and social order are the essentials Chorus: The use of knowledge in society by each of us we make the economy It's not magic that somehow our plans all align The result of human action, not of human design Tell me your thoughts on resource misallocation Distorted price signals and misinformation Interest rates that are made artificially low Telling producers where resources should go Chorus Since these low interest rates, like you said, are lies Malinvestments come as no surprise Soon these mistakes will all be revealed and then corrected, unless they're concealed Chorus Sometimes I dream all day 'bout bein' Mrs. Hayek We'd share milkshakes, watch sunsets, and kayak We'd work together on that business cycle theory Oh darlin' you've been workin' hard, you must be weary Come to my couch, on which you can rest I'll make tea, we'll talk credit and interest Then I can talk about my interest in you Of course we'll talk 'bout the economy, too Just me and you (x2) Me and You Oh, oh Me and You (Red FA Hayek poster at 0:14 designed by LibertyManiacs www.zazzle.com ) Featured Books: "Individualism and Economic Order"-FA Hayek www.press.uchicago.edu "The Road to Serfdom"-FA Hayek www.press.uchicago.edu

Keynes v Hayek

Speaker(s): Professor George Selgin, Professor Lord Skidelsky, Duncan Weldon, Dr Jamie Whyte Chair: Paul Mason Recorded on 26 July 2011. How do we get out of the financial mess we're in? Two of the great economic thinkers of the 20th century had sharply contrasting views: John Maynard Keynes believed that governments could create sustainable employment and growth. His contemporary and rival Friedrich Hayek believed that investments have to be based on real savings rather than fiscal stimulus or artificially low interest rates. BBC Radio 4 will be recording a debate between modern day followers of Keynes and Hayek. George Selgin is Professor of Economics at The Terry College of Business, University of Georgia. Selgin is one of the founders of the Modern Free Banking School, which draws its inspiration from the writings of Hayek on the denationalization of money and choice in currency. He has written extensively on free banking, the private supply of money and deflation. George Selgin is the author of The Theory of Free Banking: Money Supply under Competitive Note Issue (1988), Less Than Zero: The Case for a Falling Price Level in a Growing Economy (1997), and Good Money: Birmingham Button Makers, the Royal Mint, and the Beginnings of Modern Coinage (2008). Robert Skidelsky is Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick. SALMA HAYEK Breast Feeds A Hungry African Child | Actress Act Of Love !

Hollywood actress SALMA HAYEK breastfeeds a stranger's baby in Africa... HERE is the amazing moment . CLICK TO WATCH THE ENTIRE 8 MINUTE UNEDITED SALMA VIDEO ! : www.youtube.com _______________________________ The Ugly Betty star was visiting a hospital in war-torn Sierra Leone when she met a woman unable to feed her starving tot. Salma gladly came to her aid and fed the baby, ignoring the TV cameras. Salma said: "The baby was perfectly healthy, but the mother did not have any milk. "He was very hungry - I was weaning my daughter VALENTINA, but I still had a lot of milk, so I breastfed the baby. "It was amazing because he's really looking at me and he's very little. My baby is one year so she can suck a lot harder." Salma later questioned whether her kind act had betrayed her own baby, but quickly realised Valentina would be proud of her. She added: "I thought about it, am I being disloyal to my child by giving my milk away? "I actually think my baby would be very proud to be able to share her milk and when she grows up I will make sure she continues to share and be a generous and caring person." Hayek (Indianapolis: Liberty Fund, 2003) Books Featured Socialism: An Economic and Sociological Analysis mises.org Monetary Theory and the Trade Cycle aussienomics.com Contra Keynes and Cambridge:essays, correspondence sites.google.com The Road to Serfdom sites.google.com Description: The 20th century witnessed the unparalleled expansion of government power over the lives and livelihoods of individuals. Much of this was the result of two devastating world wars and totalitarian ideologies that directly challenged individual liberty and the free institutions of the open society. Other forms of expansion in the provision of social welfare and the regulation of the economy, while more benign in their objectives, nevertheless posed significant challenges to personal freedom. Few individuals did more to both extend our understanding of the economic processes of the free society and alert us to the dangers inherent in the growth of political power than the Nobel-laureate economist and social theorist, Friedrich A. Hayek. In over half a century of writing and teaching, he showed why National Socialism was the very antithesis of capitalism, why communism was an economic and political philosophy ultimately doomed to failure, and why we must be wary of government intervention if we are to preserve the freedoms that make democracy and prosperity possible. Over the course of his intellectual career, Hayek set out ...

Hayek vs. Keynes Sequel Sneak Peek at The Economist Buttonwood Gathering

On October 25th, an audience of financial managers and CEOs, politicians, central bankers and nobel prize winning economists at The Economist Magazine's Buttonwood Gathering were treated to an unusual experience: a live rap battle between John Maynard Keynes and FA Hayek. Following a presentation by Nassim Taleb, the lights went down in the auditorium and Fear the Boom and Bust blasted onto the screen. This video picks up at the end of that special presentation, where Keynes and Hayek stepped onto the stage to give a preview of the next EconStories music video. In the final new video, which will be completed in the months ahead, expect many more lyrics and an all new beat. Salma Hayek Frantically Searches For Milk

There's a joke to be made here about Salma Hayek and milk but we're not going to make it. Nope. But we are going to share with you her recent work for the Got Milk campaign. In a new commercial created by Deutsch Hayek frantically searches for milk only to discover it's not so easy to find. Which, in and of itself, is a bit of a stretch since when was the last time you went anywhere and couldn't find milk? Anyway, Hayek finally finds her milk...from a milk man, of course...and returns home only to find out she needs to go out and buy cereal.

Hayek Warns of "Omnipotent Elected Assembly"

Friedrich A. Hayek, Nobel laureate in economics and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991, responds to a question posed by a student at Stanford University in the 1970s. The question pertains to the prospect of free markets in a democracy if reform measures are seen as unpopular. His answer seems relevant today given the crisis in the United States and particularly in regards to the proposal submitted to Congress by Treasury Secretary Paulson.

SKIN UPDATE: I have been using this line for a little over a week and i am COMPLETELY IN LOVE LOVE LOVE! My skin feels amazingly hydrated and smooth. The only Nuance products that i havent been using are my daily cleanser and toner. I highly recommend this for dry, dull looking skin. If you have oily skin and you dont like using products with oil during the day that i suggest you skip the Day Cream, but still try the Night Super Cream and a special nourshing treat for your skin at bed time :-) the more hydrated your skin is the less oil it will feel the need to produce. I love love love this and cant say enough about it! I actually enjoy washing my face at night now because i know i get to put this stuff on LOL. Thanks for watching this incredibly LOOOOOONG video. Radical Economics: Yo Hayek!

Jamie Whyte looks at the free market Austrian School of FA Hayek. The global recession has revived interest in this area of economics, even inspiring an educational rap video. "Austrian" economists believe that the banking crisis was caused by too much regulation rather than too little. The fact that interest rates are set by central banks rather than the market is at the heart of the problem, they argue. Artificially low interest rates sent out the wrong signals to investors, causing them to borrow to spend on "malinvestments", such as overpriced housing. Jamie Whyte is head of research and publishing at Oliver Wyman, a management consulting firm. He is a former lecturer in philosophy at Cambridge University and the author of Bad Thoughts: A Guide to Clear Thinking.
