In condensing Herbert's rambling and complex book by eliminating characters and compacting events, Lynch succeeds in rendering the story incomprehensible to those unfamiliar with the novel and making the film look like a sketchy greatest hits collection of the book for Herbert fans. The story takes place in the year 10191. The universe is governed through a system of feudal rule, presided over by Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV (José Ferrer), who appears to take his marching orders from something that resembles a talking vagina. In the kingdom are two rival houses -- the House of Atreides and the House of Harkonnen. Each house is trying to gain dominion over the universe, but that dominion can only be gained by the house that controls the Spice, a special substance that permits the folding of time. The Spice is only available on the desert world ...

Dune 2000: Harkonnen Victory - The Death Hand

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. Seeing that the Emperor's continued existence will bring extinction to humanity, the Lady Elara persuades him to release the remaining Sardaukar, effectively to send them to their deaths. This will become a moot point however, for the Harkonnen have broken through the Shield Wall, and are marching on the grounded Palace as they speak. The Hand of Death approaches, as what is left of the enemy tanks are blown apart by superior Harkonnen Devastators. Legion upon legion of enemy troops turn traitor and fight with the Harkonnen, in hopes of not becoming one of their slaves, or worse, their prisoners. As the Harkonnen banner is unfurled over the last remaining Imperial base, the Death Hand strikes, and the night sky is lit up with fury. None can believe that the Imperial Palace, and all inside have been incinerated in white hot Harkonnen brutality. The day belongs to the Baron, but the future belongs to his Commander.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 1 - The Vultures Gather

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. The last Harkonnen Commander of the Arrakis forces has proven himself unworthy of his most honorable Baron's patronage. Yanich Cobal, the twisted mentat of Baron Rakan Harkonnen has been searching amongst his majesty's military for a more capable replacement. Regardless of more pressing matters, the new Commander must be presented to the Baron before his duties can begin. Yanich reassures the Commander that he will not be hurt, as long as he does not show weakness.

Zed - Harkonnen

from "Visions of Dune" (1979, France) Very hypnotic synth sequences, ambient sections with layered melodies and soundscapes. Rather minimal and effectively so. The peaks of the experience are the free-flowing funky jams when the bass and drums (by ex-Magma drummer Clement Bailly) come in to the mix. All in all this is a good moodsetter and a tripped out groove record too. Highly recommended!

Dune 2000: Harkonnen - Part 1 - No Use To Us Dead

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Harkonnen war effort is advancing too slowly. And while Harkonnen are bred for war, they are not so eloquent in domestic matters. After being caught off-guard by the Emperor's decree, their harvesting efforts suffered to the point that the need for a new refining base in the Imperial Basin was required. The Harkonnen Mentat Hayt De Vries expects nothing of the new Commander. Until he's proven his worth in blood, he'll save the niceties such as gratitude and hope for later. However, he does give him good advice. Don't go near the Baron when you don't have a heart plug...or for that matter, when you do.

This is the ending you get when you destroyed the other houses. This totally blows away the other two endings.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Defeat - Heartplug

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Should the Commander not prove himself worthy of Harkonnen livery, then he is to be used to his utmost worth as a subject in the Baron's expansive torture chamber. At one point, the screams aren't fresh anymore, and a heartplug is installed for a final climactic end to a pitiful life.

Dune 2000: Harkonnen - Part 2 - Bearer of Bad News

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. With their harvesting methods secure, the Harkonnen armies have regrouped and are being supplied regularly, but their Atreides enemies are not fools. Knowing that their war effort needs tremendous amounts of fuel, they are attacking the Refinery in the Imperial Basin in hopes of stopping the war before it begins. Hayt realizes that death and bad news are two very related subjects in Harkonnen culture, and sets up the Commander to take care of the problem, so he won't be the one who failed, effectively keeping his hands clean of the problem. With luck, another day will pass without either of them having a heart plug ripped from their chest.

Dune 2000: Harkonnen - Part 3 - An Unbelievable Mess

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The morning was filled with screams and tears as an Atreides conscript told the Baron of a new base being built in Seitch Tabr. It is understandable to betray the Duke when your eyeballs are being peeled off by layers. Needless to say, Hayt has newfound trust in the Commander, although this gives him little comfort. The new base being built at the Fremen Seitch has only begun construction on its defensive capabilities. The time to strike this base is now, before the Atreides gain a foothold in the region, and become a thorn to Harkonnen military.

Dune 2000: Harkonnen Introduction

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The evil House Harkonnen hails from the volcanic waste-planet of Geidi Prime. On Geidi Prime the Baron rules supreme. Slaves toil and die in legion, under black clouds and burning rain. The only thing human about the Harkonnen, is their genetic makeup, as all humanity was abandoned long ago in favor of brutality and maliciousness. The Baron lives only to see the Duke's signet ring on his own hand, and if successful, the Golden Lion Throne beneath his hideous form. The Baron's Twisted Mentat, Hayt De Vries was born from the flesh of a dead man in the Tlielaxu Flesh Vats. And with tailored traits of cruelty and insanity built into his wispy body, his Mentat capabilities are increased tenfold (if not made a little more reckless). It is not the choices made by Hayt that will win the desert planet for the Baron, though. It is the ferocity of the Commander alone that can bring such things to pass.

Dune 2000: Harkonnen - Part 4 - Attack the Mountain At Dawn

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. With the Atreides pulling back from Seitch Tabr, many Fremen stay and fight for their desert home. The Fremen are excellent at hiding, and do well as spies. If they become organized then the Commander's base at Seitch Tabr will become rubble in no time. As the Baron ritualistically drains his pustules, Hayt advises the Commander to eliminate the Fremen in the region before they become a threat.

Dune 2000: Harkonnen - Part 5 - Duplicitous

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Fremen Kari, a Death Commando has been captured along with many other Fremen. As Fremen are quick to commit suicide after imprisonment, they must be dispatched quickly, meaning the medical staff is working round the clock installing heart plugs, if for nothing else than to increase morale. The Twisted Mentat Hayt De Vries, using the insane cruelty instilled in him from the Tlielaxu Flesh Vats, has discovered a plan by the Emperor. The, Emperor, very man who commissioned the war, is going to betray the three great Houses. The entire Spice War was a ruse to thin their ranks so they could never be a threat to the Emperor's Sardaukar. Luckily, the Emperor's plans would fail if they were discovered so soon, so the Harkonnen will play along as if they hadn't yet discovered it. As long as one radar outpost in the region where the Heighliners are to land is still operating, then time will be bought for the Baron to prevent the Emperor from interfering with his petty alliance to the Ordos.

Dune 2000: Harkonnen - Part 6 - Fight Like A Harkonnen

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Ordos are in full retreat to their bases in the Funeral Plain. The Harkonnen are sure the Ordos are of no threat and Hayt prepares the military to turn its efforts back to the Atreides. The Lady Elara, however, using her Bene Gesserrit trickery, has gleaned that the Ordos are not as weak as the two other great Houses think. Their connections to smugglers and the forbidden technology of the Ix is staggering, and they have prepared a new weapon, the Deviator. Using the Deviator gas, the Ordos, can literally turn their enemies against themselves, and the Harkonnen will be divided. Many other Harkonnen military will think the Commander foolish to pursue the Ordos while there are other plans to be made, but if he is victorious, then the Harkonnen will be one step closer to the Golden Lion Throne.

Dune 2000: Harkonnen - Defeat

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Harkonnen have fallen. Soon, the Baron would be brought before the Landsraad to be executed, in front of the smiling Emperor. Without the threat of the Harkonnen military, the Emperor would forever hold the Landsraad in his hand, and they would become more brazen than ever before. Drunk with his newfound power, and with no one capable of stopping him, the Emperor, if it is possible, would become a far worse tyrant than anything the Harkonnen could ever produce.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 9 - A Little Less Noisy

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Baron Gunseng has been receiving disturbing reports from his spy network. The corpses of recently slain Fremen, Sardaukar, and Ix have been stolen. Normally, the Harkonnen would turn a blind eye to such trivial atrocities as many occur daily in their brutal society (let alone during war times) but apathy could prove a threat, especially when it comes to Arrakis.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 2 - Lessons Learned

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Yanich Cobal has been making calculations of the Arrakis situation, and feels that it would be prudent to invest time and effort towards one of two possible alliances. The Sardaukar or the Fremen. The Sardaukar, the Emperor's personal troops, have been without guidance since his demise. The Fremen, the natives of Arrakis, are often more of a nuisance than an aide. There is a slight inclination towards the Sardaukar, as the Harkonnen have viewed the Fremen as desert rats since they've acknowledged their existence.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 3 - Trust Him Like A Brother

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. The new Commander of the Harkonnen forces on Arrakis has been presented by the Mentat Yanich Cobal to Gunseng and Na-Baron Copec. Having felt out of the loop on all fronts, Copec judges the Commander harshly, whilst Gunseng reminds his brother that the Commander has already been approved by their father.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 4 - A Sublime Thought

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Feeling that a golden opportunity has arisen to deny the enemy their reinforcements, the Baron Rakan has ordered Gunseng to violate the rules of the Great Convention, and cause havoc within a Guild Heighliner. His brother Copec has been feeling overshadowed by the brilliant Gunseng. Because Copec is the Na-Baron (the heir to the Harkonnen throne), he is unable to be present on Arrakis due to danger to the royal line. And with his father's illness getting inevitably worse, he has been even more shielded than usual for the fact that a double assassination and a strategic flaw on Arrakis could destroy House Harkonnen irreparably.

Dune 2: Harkonnen Mission 9 (last) pt. 1/4 (pc dos)

Mission 9 time: 32m 50s (game timer: 31min). This final level is fully completed here without added sounds, logos or commentary. As in the previous levels, I didn't use a single save. Harkonnen ending and full end credits can be found at the end of the last part. This level is most likely easiest with Harkonnen and it's one of the reasons I picked them in the first place. I believe it would take longer to get it done without a missile plus playing against two missiles and I wanted to get a reasonable time. I'm pretty happy with my time here, I believe there should be some challenge beating it. Sometimes more structures can't be built, this is because there is a build quota for all structures on the map. The only way to get more built is by destroying player or enemy structures. However, this is not the only reason why I still didn't use radar. It's just too cumbersome to build a huge number of windtraps while wasting time, money and construction space. I'm sorry this last level took so long to get uploaded if somebody was waiting for it, I've been busy. Enjoy!

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. The Duke's Palace on Caladan lies in ruin, and with every passing hour more cities and provinces on the planet fall under Harkonnen flame. The forests are burning, and the oceans are saturated with blood and oil. But Baron Gunseng receives disappointing news. Not only has the Duke died before the Baron's instruments could accomplish the same, but the Heighliner has abandoned them on the planet. Their forces on Arrakis are at the mercy of the Fremen and Ordos. Needless to say, Baron Gunseng does not take the news well. Yanich Cobal saw a strange plot unfolding within the Tlielaxu, but no Mentat could foresee the Guild's involvement in the matter. The Baron sees it necessary to give Yanich "incentive" to find a solution.

Atreides slave-stock goes for double the solaris on the Harkonnen market, and the Baron's supply has more than tripled after the devastation of their Arrakis capitol. They now drift above Caladan, the pristine throneworld of Duke Achillus. Anguishing in anticipaiton, Baron Copec addresses his dogs of war aboard the Guild Heighliners, ordering them to wipe the grand and exalted House Atreides from existence. Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 6 - The Choice is Yours

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. In this installment, the war has heated up and more nations and factions are being pulled into it. Yanich Cobal has noticed that two particular groups require the Commander's attention: The Ix, and the Tlielaxu. They both hate each other (a common problem throughout the Known Universe) and will get angry if the Commander allies with their counterpart. The Ix sport powerful machines which almost break the contraints of the Butlerian Jihad's technophobia. The Tlielaxu sidestep around those laws by dealing in biological constructs which transcend the Butlerian Jihad altogether.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 7 - Civil War

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Baron Rakan's death has been coming too slowly for Copec. Many cannot decide what the problem is. Either the Baron has simply been slowly succumbing to the crippling disease, or Copec has not been using enough poison. He has decided that the time for his ascension has come, as his brother's battle plan of "Slow and Steady" is as long and torturous as his father's refusal to die. Copec's next step towards his ascension to the Golden Lion Throne will divide the House of Harkonnen between himself (vanguard of Geidi Prime) and his younger brother Gunseng (assault forces on Arrakis). Though the House is split, it will not fall. It will simply rip away it's weakest link. But who this weakest link is, lies completely up to the Commander.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Part 8 - Copec Loses

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. It should be noted that at this point in the Harkonnen Campaign, the cutscenes contain either Gunseng or Copec as the reigning Baron. Having defeated his brother and long time rival on the streets of Barony, Gunseng has proven himself to the Harkonnen people, and prepares to take his place as Baron Gunseng Harkonnen. The spoils of war are all the sweeter, knowing that his brother Copec survived the destruction of the Palace, giving the young Baron ample entertainment for the remainder of the war.

Emperor: Harkonnen - Introduction

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. House Harkonnen is one of the three House choices you can make in Emperor: Battle For Dune. Their style emphasizes assault tactics, while it lacks in defense and subtlety. The Harkonnen were once among the elite houses of the Landsraad, before they were banished for treachery long ago. With financial manipulation, they bought back their birthright, and once again became a House of the Imperium. The hedonistic Harkonnen society is built upon terror and fear. Slavery and torture are common. Assassination is a widely accepted form of promotion. After all, if you aren't smart or strong enough to stay in power, why have any power at all?
