iPhone 4S camera is still crap even using Filmic Pro. I'm sure using Filmic Pro is great when you have a decent camera. This is the 3rd iPhone I've had in 5 months and I'm fed up trying to solve Apple's problems. Great phone and iTouch! Just a sad camera. I'm taking it back for a full refund. Looks better on my vimeo page: vimeo.com I just got my iPad 3 (The New iPad) in the mail and went outside to test the 1080p video capabilities. I used the FiLMiC Pro iPhone app on the iPad 3 and it seemed to work. I shot mostly at 23.98, but for some reason FiLMiC Pro gave really odd frame rates like 23.88 and 24.03. Probably a compatibility issue. All shots were handheld. I then took the raw footage from the iPad 3 and edited it in Premiere Pro CS5.5. No color grading. Because all the frame rates were strange, the playblack was choppy. But once I rendered it out, the motion appears to be normal 24p. Exported in Pro Res 422 1080/23.98 and then compressed for web using the Youtube preset on Apple Compressor.

Just starting out with my iPhone 4s using Filmic Pro. The first couple scenes were shot at Apple Standard, while the last few at Filmic Extreme 48 Mbps. I can only render this at 720p when using the Filmic Extreme setting -- I'm able to go a bit higher using only Apple Standard. My i5 computer chokes with only 4GB RAM. In any case, you can still see how wonderful this looks, albeit not quite as sharp as the raw footage. A tripod is mandatory when using Filmic Pro as it bypasses the 4s image stabilization function. I only have a little mini tripod at this point (the wind caused a bit of camera shake looking off Diamond Head). More to come as I work with this amazing camera + app!
