euronews I talk - Europe's climate boss answers I-talk's questions

www.euronews.com Everyone agrees that these days we have to do something about the climate, but what? Connie Hedegaard is the European Commissioner for Climate Action, which cannot be an easy job seeing that different countries on our continent seem to have very different ideas on how to go about things on such important issues such as nuclear energy, for example. *I-talk presenter Alex Taylor:* "Lets go for a first question for Mrs Hedegaard." *"Hello, my name is Cristina Piffer, I'm Italian and in the name of all Italians I'd like to ask you what are the EU's concrete measures to fight global warming and daily pollution. Thank you." * *Alex Taylor:* "I told you basic questions. Quick answer." *Connie Hedegaard:* "I think what Europe can do is to prove to the world that you can have growth but at the same time you can have less energy consumption. We have done that with our cars, we have done that with energy efficiency in our houses, in the way we live our lives. We are actually one of the most energy-efficient economies in the world. So I think that we are setting an example, but we should do even more to continue to set a good example." *Alex Taylor:* "Ok let's go into more details now with another question." *"Hello, my name is Mohamed Agar and I'm from Belgium. I just have a question on carbon dioxide quotas. In just the last few days both China and America have refused to apply them. Are you going to bow to their wills or force their airlines to pay CO2 quotas ...

BBC NEWS Did they actually say the recreation does not look African and could go either way...more Eurocentric watering down of obvious truth. Here's why the sculpture is very accurate: "Modern humans did not begin to lighten in skin color immediately after entering Europe some 35000 years ago. In fact, these ancestral Europeans remained brown-skinned for tens of thousands of years. This is the conclusion now emerging from studies of skin color loci." (Actually modern human fossils older than 35000 years have been found in Europe. There is DNA evidence of existence from about 50000 years ago.) • • • evoandproud.blogspot.com Science 20 April 2007: Vol. 316. no. 5823, p. 364 DOI: 10.1126/science.316.5823.364a AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGISTS MEETING: European Skin Turned Pale Only Recently, Gene Suggests Ann Gibbons ...Europeans acquired pale skin quite recently, perhaps only 6000 to 12000 years ago. Young Europeans - paper is key

CEPI found that young people live in a digital world, where paper is key. Young Europeans are digitally connected and prefer to use digital technology for photos and bank statements, but they see paper as more emotional and trusted choice when it comes to love notes, birthday cards, contracts and diplomas.

Greg Hunter Interviews Charles Biderman on the European Debt Crisis and More

usawatchdog.com - Greece, Portugal and Ireland have all been in the spotlight with money troubles. Now, Spain is taking center stage, and its debt is more than double the previous three countries. The most underreported story this week is the European debt crisis. There has been one bailout after another. Nothing is working as many EU countries plunge into recession. Charles Biderman, CEO of Trim Tabs Investment Research, says the situation is bad and it's going to get a lot "worse." Mr. Biderman says the Europeans won't be the only ones that will feel financial pain. He thinks it is only a matter of time before the EU "implodes," and that crater will be big enough to pull down some very large US banks. Greg Hunter talks to Charles Biderman about the problems with the EU, US and a new reserve currency coming out of Asia in the not-so-distant future.

Bleak Christmas for Europeans

The season of good cheer and gift giving is a hard sell in Europe this year as the latest figures reveal: people simply cannot afford to dig deep into their pockets under the burden of austerity cuts and increased taxes. Christmas for many is all about giving to those you love, and so not having enough money to do that is painful. And it is a painful reminder of ordinary Europeans who are paying for governments and banks' financial mismanagement. Al Jazeera's Simon McGregor-Wood reports from London.

The Netherlands: Knocking Eastern Europeans | European Journal

After targeting Muslims, now Dutch right-wing populist Geert Wilders has set his sights on eastern Europeans, inviting fellow citizens to share negative experiences they've had.Wilder's Party for Freedom seems to have hit a nerve with its anonymous internet gripe line. Within just a few days of its appearance, it had collected more than 30000 entries by Dutch people reporting negative encounters with immigrants from eastern Europe. The European Commission has sharply criticized the Web site, and several ambassadors of eastern European countries have denounced the exercise in ostracism. It is an embarrassment to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, but he is dependent on Wilder's continued support and has avoided commenting on the controversial Internet site. For more go to www.dw.de

To watch more visit us @ www.youtube.com twitter.com twitter.com It's d-day for the eurozone! But is it crisis on or crisis averted? Most EU members sign on for more fiscal unity -- analysis ranges from success to total failure. And does anything on the table really get to the core of the problem? Well, for one thing, the UK is forgoing the deal and Cameron's close but not so friendly encounter with Sarkozy may show why...And countries and banks are preparing for the collateral damage of a collapse of the euro. Contingency plans see countries like Ireland evaluating the need for additional printing presses. The swiss government is studying capital controls in case of a tidal wave of money come from savings in the periphery looking for safety in the core. And as pundits, economists, and analysts size up the crisis and solution, the global and market and personal impact from this side of the atlantic...we get the view from one of the countries most stricken -- we'll speak to greek economist Yanis Varoufakis in Athens about all of this. He is author of the book Global Minotaur, and proponent of the "modest proposal" a solution for overcoming the Eurozone crisis. Two Expats, or How to Become a European

Two expat cousins learn what it's like to live as Europeans without losing their American roots. Unlike the Americans in Paris in the '20s, Ryan Erwin of Durham, NC, and Courtney-Anne Erwin of Shreveport, LA, left the US for love. Ryan has been in Germany since 2005, and is now restoring historic boats in Hamburg. Courtney-Anne moved to the Netherlands in 2010 to join her fiance. Until late 2011, she was working as a marketer for a biotech firm in Amsterdam. The lessons they've learned will be useful for any expat moving anywhere. "Two Expats" was produced in Dec. 2011 by Bill Erwin for the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. He is Ryan's father and Courtney-Anne's uncle.

Europeans: First Native Americans Part 1

Traditional history tells us that European settlers discovered America about the time of the Renaissance. But revolutionary new archaeological data and the latest DNA research reveal that Europeans visited our shores far earlier -- some 17000 years before Columbus was even born. Scientists have recently discovered that prior to Asians crossing the Bering Strait about 10000 BC to 15000 BC (bringing us today what DNA testing companies consider "Native American") about 17000 BC to 25000 BC there was a migration out of Southwestern Europe of peoples of European origin who made their way along the Ice Sheets in boats in the Atlantic Ocean who settled in the Eastern United States. The oldest spearpoints ever found in North American have SW European origins not Asian origins. www.utexas.edu www.harbornet.com first-americans.blogspot.com www.jeffbenedict.com Note: Please copy this video and post it around. The Europeans (1979) 2/9

Based on the novel by Henry James, THE EUROPEANS takes place in 1840s New England where a cultured but nearly destitute sister and brother, raised in Europe, arrive at the doorstep of their rich but innocently isolated American cousins. Hoping to exchange her sophistication for financial stability, Eugenia (Lee Remick) begins a manipulative wooing of bachelor Robert Acton (Robin Ellis) while her bohemian brother, Felix (Tim Woodward), falls for Gertrude Wentworth (Lisa Eichorn). The puritanical Acton is attracted to Eugenia's artful ways but cannot find it within himself to trust her overt sensuality. With sumptuous cinematography, director James Ivory subtly articulates the emotions that surface in this Jamesian battle between cosmopolitan mores and stony New England rectitude. Producer Ismail Merchant had difficulty finding financial backing in the United States, and THE EUROPEANS was eventually funded by England's National Film Finance Corporation. However, when it was chosen as the only British entry at the Cannes Film Festival, the British film community disassociated itself from the movie, considering it not to be British enough. Despite this, THE EUROPEANS became a success for Merchant Ivory Productions in Europe as well as America. The United States and Europe are facing tough economic times. Fourteen million Americans are unemployed and 20% of Spain's population can't find work, but Europeans are reacting much differently to their economic difficulties than Americans. Over the past few months, tens of thousands of Europeans have mobbed cities across the continent lighting cars on fire and storming government buildings. Americans - like the tea partiers and new progressive movements have rallied together, but many say the American protestors argue more about getting their freedoms back than getting more practical things like better wages or pensions.

INDO-EUROPEAN ORIGIN

The Proto-Indo-Europeans were the speakers of the Proto-Indo-European language (PIE), an unattested but now reconstructed prehistoric language. Knowledge of them comes chiefly from the linguistic reconstruction, along with material evidence from archaeology and archaeogenetics. Linguistic reconstruction is fraught with significant uncertainties and room for speculation, and PIE speakers cannot be assumed to have been a single, identifiable people or tribe. Rather, they were a group of loosely related populations ancestral to the later, still partially prehistoric, Bronze Age Indo-Europeans. The Proto-Indo-Europeans in this sense likely lived during the Copper Age, or roughly the 5th to 4th millennia BC. Mainstream scholarship places them in the general region of the Pontic-Caspian steppe in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Some scholars would extend the time depth of PIE or Pre-PIE to the Neolithic or even the last glacial maximum, and suggest alternative location hypotheses. By the mid-2nd millennium BC offshoots of the Proto-Indo-Europeans had reached Anatolia, the Aegean, Northern India, and likely Western Europe. MUSIC - Prince of Persia - Trouble in the Barracks

Why do the natives of northern Europe have less skin pigmentation than any other population on earth? Why are their hair and eyes also depigmented? Tea Party UK? Why Europeans Don't Protest Taxation

Complete video at: fora.tv European nations face much higher tax rates than any seen in the United States - so why is there no European equivalent of the Tea Party? Rather than simply chalking it up to cultural differences, British politician Daniel Hannan attributes the discrepancy to the American practice of open primaries. ----- A journalist and author, Daniel Hannan has been a British member of the European Parliament since 1999. He first came to wide notice in the United States when he made a speech on the floor of the European Parliament addressing the then-prime minister of Great Britain, Gordon Brown, about his disastrous economic policies. Hannan's latest book is A New Road to Serfdom: A Letter of Warning to America. Amplifying on his new book, Daniel Hannan warns that the United States is Europeanizing, with all the inherent dangers that come with the expansion of the welfare state. "This expansion doesn't just reduce economic growth, it tends to squeeze out personal morality." Hannan, who connects the decline of the European family and society with the rise of cradle-to-grave welfare in Europe, has a special warning about the dangers of Obamacare: "Once politicians assume responsibility for health care, they find that they have made an almost irreversible decision." Hannan concludes that this drift to Europeanization is not inevitable if Americans honor the genius of the Founding Fathers. - Hoover Institution A journalist and author, Daniel Hannan has been a ...
