Ancient Egyptian Music - Ya Rab Toba (From Sa'ed Oena)

This track represents the folk music of Sa'ed, known for the great variety of instruments used in this joyful call-and-response style music generally heard at celebratory gatherings; the final track exemplifies the more western compositional style of modern popular forms.During the Grateful Dead's historic 1978 performances in Egypt, percussionist Mickey Hart set time aside to travel with longtime friend Hamza El Din and make field recordings of the country's richly varied folkloric music. The music of Egypt can be classified into four basic regional styles -- the southernmost style of the Aswan area, divided into Arabic-speaking Nubians and a Nubian-speaking sector divided into Mahasi and Mattokki; the style of Luxor, commonly known as Sa'ed; the style of El-Meniya to the Mediterranean Sea, called the Fellahim; and the urban music of such cities as Cairo and Alexandria. Although music existed in prehistoric Egypt, the evidence for it becomes secure only in the historical (or "dynastic" or "pharaonic") period--after 3100 BCE. Music formed an important part of Egyptian life, and musicians occupied a variety of positions in Egyptian society. Music found its way into many contexts in Egypt: temples, palaces, workshops, farms, battlefields and the tomb. Music was an integral part of religious worship in ancient Egypt, so it is not surprising that there were gods specifically associated with music, such as Hathor and Bes (both were also associated with dance, fertility and ...

Susan Elsa documenting her trip to Egypt, where she worked on her Debut Album "I Remember". The Isis Song was created in Aswan, picking up the energies directly at the IsIs Temple/Philae at the location. Tears of Isis - Ancient Egyptian Music (#4 of 11)

The ancient Egyptian goddess Isis wept for her beloved husband Osiris, who was murdered and betrayed by his own brother. Her tears brought about the annual flood and inundation of the Nile. This music depicts the calling of Isis by the temple priests sounding the primordial conch shell. Then a soloist playing a 16 string lyre, here performed on the north African nyatiti, makes an offering to Isis that assures the joy of all the people in anticipation of the arrival of Isis in the guise of the Nile Star. Following this a group of wooden flute players, who have gathered by the banks of the lower Nile delta, play antiphonal melodies thought to be favored by Isis herself. Finally, when the watching priests see arrival of Isis and the rain begins to fall, they once again sound the conch shells in homage to Isis. "Tears of Isis" is the fourth of a set of nine pieces by composer Jeffrey Goodman. The CD is scheduled for release in the Fall of 2011.

Ancient Egyptian Music Meditations- Anthems to the Moon and Sun and Invocation of the Great Pyramid

Although the sacred music of ancient Egypt has been lost for millenia and is still shrouded in mystery, there are nevertheless countless hints and intimations of the exquisite place of music within the culture of dynastic Egyptian society. As yet, to our knowledge, there is no known musical notation which, if deciphered, would allow a direct transcription of their music for interpretation and performances today. At this time, after much research, the musicians at the Shelter of Clear Light have begun to decipher and record music that is derived from the archeological evidence which has survived to this day. Such evidence includes actual instruments such as ancient harps and flutes which reside in museum collections around the world. And, for example, it has been reported that one flute dating from the 3rd millenia BC, when played, was pitched to an aeolian pentatonic scale. We do know that music pervaded every aspect of Egyptian life. This is evidenced by the fortunate abundance of images depicting music played in both sacred and more secular contexts. We can see many different ensembles of instruments, as well as an occasional depiction of a kind of music master or conductor, who appears to be signaling the musicians with hand gestures.

Ancient Egyptian Music - Truth, Balance, Order (song + instrumental I, II and III)

The concept for this album came when composer/multi-instrumentalist Michael Atherton was commissioned to produce a creative reconstruction of ancient Egyptian music for an exhibition at the Australian Museum in 1998. Atherton took it one step further, pursuing a long-term research project of which this entrancing CD is the result. By studying literary and visual records as well as surviving artifacts, he began to get an idea of which instruments had been used in ancient Egypt, then approached the compositions by drawing on his experience with medieval monophony, Eastern European and Turkish folk music, and a variety of intercultural projects. Atherton primarily uses 5, 6, and 7 note scales based on specific pitches, resulting in a combination of Moroccan ramal mai mode and Persian afshari. He also gravitates toward pentatonic scales and major modes. The melodies move in small steps. The setting of the hymns is monophonic, with the inclusion of call and response development. Sung items include interpolated recitations, as a means of acknowledging a deep connection between language and music. Although music existed in prehistoric Egypt, the evidence for it becomes secure only in the historical (or "dynastic" or "pharaonic") period--after 3100 BCE. Music formed an important part of Egyptian life, and musicians occupied a variety of positions in Egyptian society. When you believe - Prince of egypt

"When You Believe" is the Official Movie Soundtrack of Prince of Egypt. In the film, this song of inspiration is performed by the characters Tzipporah (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Miriam (sung by Sally Dworsky). The protagonists of this ballad recall tough times that have them questioning their faith: they have prayed for many nights to God but those prayers seem to remain unanswered, and they wonder if they are wasting their time. Nevertheless, they realize that although times may be difficult, "there can be miracles when you believe" in God. ~~~~~~ COPYRIGHT IS RESEVRED TO DREAMWORKS (:

Ancient Egyptian Music - The Land of the Blessed

This musical tribute to ancient Egypt was originally composed in 1978 by Alo Jihad Racy for the King Tutankhamun exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. It was inspired by the artistry of the ancient treasures and the religious symbolism of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, which suggested titles of the compositions. Only traditional Near Eastern instruments were used in making this recording, like the nay, salamiyyah, buzuq, mijwiz, mizmar and others. Music was an integral part of religious worship in ancient Egypt, so it is not surprising that there were gods specifically associated with music, such as Hathor and Bes (both were also associated with dance, fertility and childbirth). All the major categories of musical instruments (percussion, wind, stringed) were represented in pharaonic Egypt. Percussion instruments included hand-held drums, rattles, castanets, bells, and the sistrum--a highly important rattle used in religious worship. Hand clapping too was used as a rhythmic accompaniment. Wind instruments included flutes (double and single, with reeds and without) and trumpets. Stringed ...
