Drilling through walls
This video demonstrates how to drill through a cavity wall, but more importantly how to protect a cable or a pipe that is being passed through the wall. Using a piece of plastic pipe to line the hole will protect the cable or pipe from possible damage caused by debris falling in the cavity. Gas drilling companies such as Halliburton say the gas drilling technique known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is safe, but opponents contend it pollutes groundwater with dangerous substances. Now, new evidence has emerged possibly linking natural gas drilling to groundwater contamination. ProPublica journalist Abrahm Lustgarten reports federal officials in Wyoming have found that at least three water wells contain chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing.

This DIY demonstrates how it's done on a Porsche 996, however, it applies to the full Porsche line-up, plus most other European cars. Breakthrough! Giant drill smashes open world's longest tunnel under Swiss Alps
Swiss engineers have smashed through the last stretch of rock to create the longest tunnel in the world. A gigantic drilling machine broke the remaining wall 8200 feet (2500 metres) below the imposing Piz Vatgira peak in the Gotthard massif. Miners, VIPs and journalists inside the tunnel cheered as Switzerland reclaimed the longest tunnel record from Japan's Seikan Tunnel. Some 2500 workers have spent nearly 20 years smashing through the rock beneath the Gotthard massif. When the tunnel opens in 2017, it will allow passenger and goods trains to pass underneath the Alps at speeds of up to 155 miles an hour (250 kilometres an hour) on their way from Germany to Italy.

DIY: Drilling & Taping Threads Into Aluminum
How to drill and tape threads into aluminum. I used a "gun tap" so it can have a straight run into the material. Normal taps need to be backed off every so often so it doesn't bind up in the material being tapped. This is an Anti Shudder Valve from a Volkswagen TDI. I am taping holes for grub screws to hold the rubber pipe in place. The tabs on the pipe are worn out and the grub screws will hold it in place. I actually got this fix from another member on the forum, TDIClub. They actually did this fix on their car and it works great. Beats spending about $100 for a new pipe.

euronews interview - Turkish deputy PM defiant in drilling row
www.euronews.net Turkey's relations with Israel have been strained as the row over gas exploration in the eastern Mediterranean has escalated. Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç has been speaking to euronews after the internationally recognised Greek Cypriot government started drilling for gas on a site south of Cyprus. Turkey has begun exploration work and is reported to have sent naval escorts. Israel has also been drilling in nearby waters.
