John Eliot Gardiner conducting The English Baroque Soloists: Così fan tutte, ossia La scuola degli amanti (Thus Do They All, or The School For Lovers) K. 588, is an opera buffa by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The libretto was written by Lorenzo da Ponte. Così fan tutte (often shortened to Così in the English-speaking world) is one of the three Mozart operas for which da Ponte wrote the libretto. The other two da Ponte-Mozart collaborations were Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni. Così was written and composed at the suggestion of the Emperor Joseph II. The libretto was originally intended to be set to music by Mozart's contemporary Antonio Salieri but Salieri only completed parts of the first act and then broke off work on the opera. The title, Così fan tutte, literally means "Thus do all [women]" but it is often translated as "Women are like that". The first performance of Mozart's setting took place at the Burgtheater in Vienna on January 26, 1790. Synopsis Mozart and Da Ponte took as a theme "fiancée swapping" which dates back to the 13th century, with notable earlier versions being those of Boccaccio's Decameron and Shakespeare's play Cymbeline. Elements from Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew are also present. Furthermore, it incorporates elements of the myth of Procris as found in Ovid's Metamorphoses, vii. Miracle Planet - Asteroid Impact Simulation
A simulation of a 300 mile wide asteroid striking the Earth, as depicted in "Miracle Planet: The Violent Past." I made this when I saw that most other versions floating around were either poorly edited or had lame watermarks etc. It doesn't fit in at all with this channel, but it is very interesting. An impact with an iron bolide of this size would likely liberate an amount of energy equivalent to many trillions of megatons of TNT, regardless of where it struck. In 1961 the Soviet Union detonated the the most powerful nuclear device ever built, a massive city killer called the "Tsar Bomba." It clocked in at "only" about 50 megatons.

The King's Head welcomes theatre back to the stage with COSÌ, an Australian comedy about the madness of love, war and opera. In a 1970 Melbourne asylum, a motley cast of mental patients rehearse and perform Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" while Vietnam War protests rage outside. Directed by the King's Head Theatre Artistic Director Adam Spreadbury-Maher, Louis Nowra's semi-autobiographical 1992 play charts the story of a university graduate directing an opera for the first time against the pressures of joining a Vietnam protest movement, clashing notions of fidelity and free love, and managing an array of psychological disorders, including bipolar asylum ringleader Roy. Nowra's witty, cracklingly funny and poignant play asks the question of who is really mad- the inmates staging Mozart or the society outside divided by a meaningless war? COSÍ was initially programmed for The Cock Tavern Theatre, but in a true 'show-must-go-on' spirit has been moved to the company's Islington venue. The entire cast of nine, and key production and design crew, have all worked on productions at The Cock Tavern Theatre, and they are brought together for this exciting new chapter in King's Head Theatre history.
