This is Starry Eyed by Ellie Goulding off of her record, "Lights." One of my friends introduced me to Ellie's music, and I was instantly hooked. I can confidently say, that she is now one of my favorite artists. She has such a unique voice, great melodies, and fantastic beats to her songs. For pop music, it's very original, which is something I've been after for a long time. I had a very hard time picking a song to cover, but after playing along to this a few times, it just felt natural. Since there isn't much of a solid beat except for the chorus, I had a lot of fun with it. Also, I found a digital camera laying around the house, that I thought I'd lost long ago... This is my first cover using my incredible Truth Custom Drums kit.. the song is The Flight Of Apollo by Angels & Airwaves. I have been obsessed with this band since their first record, 'We Don't Need To Whisper.' I love the vibe and honesty they send off in their music, and anyone that knows me knows I have an addiction to space and astronomy, (just look at my Orion Nebula drum kit hehe) so the music tends to send me off into another world while I'm listening to it. This song is a blast to play, and it has awesome groove to it. Also, since I'm still learning about this whole "recording" thing.. This is 'Dark Side' by Kelly Clarkson from her new record, "Stronger." I heard this song on Kelly's YouTube page before the cd came out, and I loved it right away. Let me gladly explain why I'm covering a Glee song :) I love Glee. I feel the whole meaning behind the show is to see how a group of misfits, and people that would never associate with eachother otherwise, come together and unite through music. I believe it has helped a lot of kids build confidence to stand up for themselves who feel like outcasts. Sometimes I think it's better to be the loser, the nerd, the geek; it shows that you're staying true to yourself. There's only one and will only ever be one you. Don't try and be like everyone else. I have so much admiration for people who are truly their own person. Every song I do, weather it's rock, pop, rap or country, I play right from the heart. That's just me :) And I genuinely enjoy this song. So not only do I support the show itself, but I really love and respect the music. I think the cast is SO talented. So with that being said, I am in no way shape or form ashamed of covering this. It brings a smile to my face and it was so much fun to create a different groove since the drums are programed. I understand that not everyone is going to agree.. and that's ok. It's a guilty pleasure, and I feel a joyful, carefree spirit when I listen to it.
