Cats In The Cradle-Harry Chapin My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home dad? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok" And he walked away but his smile never dimmed And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came home from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say "Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?" He shook his head and said with a smile "What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please?" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin' home son? I don't know when, but we'll get together then son You know we'll have a good time then I've long ...

PLEASE READ BELOW... Below I have posted some things about the video (picture slideshow rather), since some people think I took the song too literally. But before you comment anything, read some of the "clues" below. What I was trying to do was combine what Harry was directly saying with my own understanding of the song. Clue 1: In most of the video, the pictures are shown zooming in...and then out...and then in again, etc. This was to show a metaphoric cradle rocking; the father thinking he is doing the right thing. Clue 2: Many people have a problem with the video really showing a cat. However, it isn't all that literal: The first time Harry says "...and the cats in the cradle...", it shows a cat in a cradle...but each time the line is said, the cat will change. This is to show how time is passing by and how things change. Then it shows a sliver spoon ("...and the silver spoon..."). But when this is repeated, the spoon will have a fork next to it, and then a knife. This is to show age and maturity in the boy. The very last spoon in the video is meant to look old...to show again the time that has passed by. "...little boy blue..." With that line, it starts with a blue man, then to a blue room, then to a blue car, and then to a blue house...this is to show, again, age and ,maturity. "...and the man on the moon...", with this line it starts with a toy man sitting on the moon, to a real photo of the moon, to a man landing on the moon, and then to what the future of the moon ...

10.000 Miles Fare thee well My own true love Farewell for a while Im going away But Ill be back Though I go 10000 miles 10000 miles My own true love 10000 miles or more The rocks may melt And the seas may burn If I should not return Oh dont you see That lonesome dove Sitting on an ivy tree Shes weeping for Her own true love As I shall weep for mine Oh come ye back My own true love And stay a while with me If I had a friend All on this earth Youve been a friend to me.

NOW EMBEDABLE 1977 No alternate endings but great performance by Harry and the guys! Only problem is, the audience is lacking in enthusiasm. It was a taping of a German tv show, 'Rockpalast' and it looks like they filled the audience by paying people to be there and clap. Poor Harry! He works hard to get them interested, but they just don't get it. Should have let real fans attend.

live at Wolf Trap 1995 Come On Come On Some people remember the first time, some can't forget the last Some just select what they want to from the past It's a song you danced to in high school, it's a moon you tried to bring down On a four in the morning drive through the streets of town Come on come on, it's getting late now Come on come on, take my hand Come on come on, you just have to whisper Come on come on, I will understand It's a photograph taken in Paris at the end of the honeymoon In 1948, late in the month of June Your parents smile for the camera in sienna shades of light Now you're older than they were then that summer night Come on come on, it's getting late now Come on come on, take my hand Come on come on, you just have to whisper Come on come on, I will understand It's a need you never get used to, so fierce and so confused It's a loss you never get over the first time you lose And tonight I am thinking of someone twenty years ago We rode in his daddy's car down the River Road Come on come on, it's getting late now Come on come on, take my hand Come on come on, you just have to whisper Come on come on, I will understand

"Dance band on the Titanic Sing "Nearer, my God, to Thee" The iceberg's on the starboard bow Won't you dance with me Mama stood cryin' at the dockside Sayin' "Please son, don't take this trip" I said "Mama, sweet Mama, don't you worry none" "Even God couldn't sink this ship" Well, the whistle blew and they turned the screws It turned the water into foam Destination sweet salvation Goodbye home sweet home I'm in the dance band on the Titanic Sing "Nearer, my God, to Thee" The iceberg's on the starboard bow Won't you dance with me There was a trombone and a saxophone The bass and drums were cookin' up the bandstand And I was strummin' in the middle with this dude on the fiddle And we were three days out from land And now the foghorn's jammed and moanin' Hear it groanin' through the misty night I heard the lookout shout down "There's icebergs around" "But still everything's all right" Oh, the dance band on the Titanic Sing "Nearer, my God, to Thee" The iceberg's on the starboard bow Won't you dance with me They were burnin' all the flares for candles In the banquet they were throwin' in first class And we were blowin' waltzes in the barroom When the universe went CRASH! "There's no way that this could happen" I could hear the old captain curse He ordered lifeboats away, that's when I heard the chaplain say "Women and children and chaplains first" Well, they soon used up all of the lifeboats But there were a lot of us left on board I heard the drummer sayin' "Boys, just keep ...

"Cat's in the Cradle" is a 1974 folk rock song by Harry Chapin from the album Verities & Balderdash. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1974 and was Chapin's only #1 hit song and became the best known of Chapin's work and a staple for folk rock music. The lyrics to the verses of the song were originally written as a poem by Chapin's wife, Sandy Chapin, who is credited as the song's co-writer. The poem itself was inspired by the awkward relationship between Sandy Chapin's first husband, James Cashmore, and his father, a New York City politician. She was also inspired by a country song she heard on the radio. More than a year later, after the birth of his own son, Harry added the music and the chorus. Label executive David Geffen selected the song as a single, over Chapin's objections (Wikipedia).

He was survived by his wife, children and all those who his music touched and continues to. There you stand in your dungarees Looking all grown up and so very pleased When you write your poems they have so much to say When you speak your dreams it takes my breath away You know I want to be a ball player A regular slugging fool But both our dreams must wait awhile Until we finish school And so you and I We'll watch our years go by We'll watch our sweet dreams fly Far away, but maybe someday I don't know when But we will dream again And we'll be happy then Till our time just drifts away There you stand in your wedding dress You're so beautiful that I must confess I'm so proud you have chosen me When a doctor is what you want to be You know I want to be a painter, girl A real artistic snob But I guess we'll have our children first You'll make a home, I'll get a job Listen to the seasons passing Listen to the wind blow Listen to the children laughing Where do broken dreams go? There you stand in your tailored suit So many years gone by, but your're still so cute We take the car to go and meet the bus When our grandchildren come to visit us You say you should have been a ballerina, babe There are songs I should have sung But I guess our dreams have come and gone You gotta dream when you are young And so you and I We'll ...

The well famed, (I feel over-rated in-comparison to some of his other songs) Taxi, In original form The best live version I'm aware of: www.youtube.com "It was raining hard in 'Frisco, I needed one more fare to make my night. A lady up ahead waved to flag me down, She got in at the light. Oh, where you going to, my lady blue, It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain. She just looked out the window, and said "Sixteen Parkside Lane". Something about her was familiar I could swear I'd seen her face before, But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken" And she didn't say anything more. It took a while, but she looked in the mirror, And she glanced at the license for my name. A smile seemed to come to her slowly, It was a sad smile, just the same. And she said, "How are you Harry?" I said, "How are you Sue? Through the too many miles and the too little smiles I still remember you." It was somewhere in a fairy tale, I used to take her home in my car. We learned about love in the back of the Dodge, The lesson hadn't gone too far. You see, she was gonna be an actress, And I was gonna learn to fly. She took off to find the footlights, And I took off to find the sky. Oh, I've got something inside me, To drive a princess blind. There's a wild man, wizard, He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind. Oh, I've got something inside me, Not what my life's about, Cause I've been letting my outside tide me, Over 'till my time, runs out. Baby's so high that she's skying, Yes she's flying ...
