Swing - Best of The Big Bands (1/3)
Swing music, also known as swing jazz or simply swing, is a form of jazz music that developed in the early 1930s and became a distinctive style by 1935 in the United States. Swing uses a strong rhythm section of double bass and drums as the anchor for a lead section of brass instruments such as trumpets and trombones, woodwinds including saxophones and clarinets, and sometimes stringed instruments such as violin and guitar, medium to fast tempos, and a "lilting" swing time rhythm. Swing bands usually featured soloists who would improvise on the melody over the arrangement. The danceable swing style of bandleaders such as Benny Goodman and Count Basie was the dominant form of American popular music from 1935 to 1945. The BARENAKED LADIES have teamed with TV's #1—and newly minted Emmy® nominee for Outstanding Comedy Series—The Big Bang Theory (Thursdays 8/7c on CBS, premiering September 22) on a special music video for the band's full-length version of the hit series' theme song. The video was shot on The Big Bang Theory set and gives fans an exclusive insider's look at the hit sitcom, via never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage of the show's table read, rehearsals and episode taping in front of a live studio audience. The band was joined in the video by the stars of the award-winning show: Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar. The audio recording will also be featured on the band's upcoming greatest hits package, HITS FROM YESTERDAY & THE DAY BEFORE, as well as a deluxe two-disc version of the album titled STOP US IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE. The group's formation was chronicled on the television series Big Bang Documentary, from July to August 2006. The show was also aired online on GomTV and on MTV Korea.[1] Initially a six-member group, one member got eliminated out during the airing of the show before the official debut[2] leading to their current line-up of G-Dragon, Taeyang, TOP, Daesung and Seungri. Signed to YG Entertainment, Big Bang went on to release successful singles and EPs. Their first release, the EP Always (2007), spawned the number-one single "Lies" (Korean: 거짓말; Revised Romanization: Geojitmal). Their follow-up EPs Hot Issue and Stand Up were similarly successful.[3] After they received the "Artist of the Year" award from the M.net KM Music Festival and the Seoul Gayo Daesang Award, the group expanded their activities into Japan, releasing mini-albums and airplay singles.
