Dune 2000: Atreides - Part 1 - For the Duke!

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Atreides Mentat, Noree Moneo begins the long campaign ahead addressing the men of the Duke. Many of these fresh-faced, yet adeptly trained young men have come to Arrakis in hopes of becoming rich and taking home many exotic trinkets (if not a handful of spice). Noree reminds them that Arrakis is not a treasure trove to be dipped into, but a deathtrap, and easily the most dangerous planet within the Imperium. He reminds them not to fight for themselves, but to fight for the Duke!

Dune 2000: Atreides - Victory - Long Live the Duke!

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. With the Harkonnen in full retreat back to Geidi Prime, and the Sardaukar in full retreat, today would forever mark the history of the Imperium. The corrupt House Corrino fell among their filthy allies into shame and exile. The Emperor of the Imperium was crushed under the weight of his own Palace. Orinthopter's filled the skies while Fremen war-cries rang out among the shattered bases. Today the Atreides Emperor would take his place as the man who brought justice and nobility back to the Imperium, while his Commander would go down as the single greatest warrior who ever lived.

Emperor: Atreides - Part 1 - Learn To Swim

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. The new Atreides Commander had recently completed his military training on Caladan. He had excelled in strategy, tactics, and field management, which made him an excellent candidate for his new position. However, one does not learn to win a battle by books and charts alone. As Kolinar Koltrass expresses, he must learn to swim by leaping directly into the ocean.

Dune 2000: Atreides - Introduction

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The noble House Atreides hails from the water-planet of Caladan. On Caladan the Duke rules by sea and air. But he knows that on Arrakis, he must rely on Desert Power to win the day. The Duke's famous mentat, Noree Moneo advises and resides over the Duke's forces on Arrakis, but it is the choices of the Commander that will truly make House Atreides unstoppable.

Dune 2000: Atreides - Part 2 - The Duke is Watching

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. It is a Mentat's functions to sense feints and traps before they come to be, and to plan for them. A Mentat never jumps to conclusions, and hesitate to make a decision if there isn't enough data. The rumors that the Commander arrived on an Imperial Heighliner, with a Bene Gesserrit Sister, would be no doubt, alarming to any Mentat. Moneo has seen the Commander fight and believes him to be honorable, but refuses to take any chances on a planet filled with saboteurs, spies, assassins, and usurpers. He has seen fit to give you a harder assignment, to test your loyalty to the Duke. Should you pass, then he will continue to keep his eye on you. Should you fail, then at least you are no longer a threat.

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Commander's loyalty, as it turns out, is well-placed, and the Duke himself wishes for him to oversee a more specific mission. The Ordos claim they are not fighting, but in fact, simply mining Spice. Intelligence from the basin their "harvesting operations" are taking place have an increasing number of troops...enough to make the Duke uneasy. Why would the Ordos, whom are very conscientious of where they spend their solari, so heavily guard a simple refinery or two, against the Atreides who they know won't make the first move? It doesn't take a Mentat to understand what's taking place. The Atreides can't afford to fight on two fronts however, so the Commander must tread carefully.

Dune 2000: Atreides - Defeat

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Atreides have fallen. Soon, tyrants would control all of Arrakis, and the Fremen would be erased from existence. Without the balancing influence of noble House Atreides, the Imperium would fall ever further into despotism and madness, until mankind would eventually extinguish itself.

Emperor: Atreides - Part 2 - Understanding Arrakis

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. The Commander has survived his initiation, but his trial by fire has yet to begin. Since he hasn't failed, and subsequently not been returned to Caladan, Kolinar warns him of the local Fremen. The Atreides had allied with them in years past, but the bond has been broken. The Fremen, already distrustful to the point of hostility, feel betrayed by the Atreides but at the same time, hope and expect that they will attempt redemption. Meanwhile, Corlin is troubled over the shifting sands. He reminds himself, in regard to the Atreides, that the only sand that isn't buried is the sand that continues to shift.

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. On Selusa Secundus, the two highest ranking Sardaukar generals discuss the future of the Imperium and the war. After an assassination attempt, the Caid reconciles that one of the Houses may be worthy of their patronage after all. Meanwhile on Arrakis, a Fremen party has been saved from the Harkonnen by Atreides Thopters. Corlin, a Fremen Naib who speaks for many if not all of the sietches is outraged. The bodies of his dead have been stolen by Atreides soldiers. Luckily, Kolinar calculated ways to impress the Fremen, and had the bodies preserved to maintain their water.

Dune 2000: Atreides - Part 4 - Not Our Allies...Yet

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Duke knows that on a water-planet, you use sea power. On a mountainous planet, you use air power. And on a desert planet, you use Desert Power. The Fremen have lived on Arrakis for countless generations and know the desert like a Caladanian knows how to swim. Without the Fremen on their side, the Atreides can look forward to a war of attrition. A war the Harkonnen are bred to win. A Fremen alliance would strike deeply into the hearts of the enemy's operations, and would no doubt bring the Atreides to the fore of the fight. Luckily, as it were, the Harkonnen have blockaded a Fremen Seitch. Such a situation is nearly tailor-made to begin just such an alliance.

Dune 2000: Atreides - Part 5 - The Price of Freedom

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. Despite the rescue of the Fremen, on part of the Atreides, they are as yet cold to the Duke and do not wish to be bargained with like currency. Moneo's best efforts have at least afforded him a chance to show that the Atreides are truly sincere in their efforts. The Fremen of Seitch Tabr are being held within a Harkonnen barracks. The Fremen are well accustomed to tragedy, and believe them to already be dead. A miracle is a rare thing in Fremen culture. Perhaps making one would open their ears to the Duke's proposal.

Emperor: Atreides - Part 4 - Heighliner Rescue

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. When a Guild Heighliner carrying reinforcements from Caladan is overrun by hostile forces, namely the Harkonnen, the Spacing Guild offers a unique position to Kolinar Koltrass. Causing havoc within a Guild Heighliner is considered a violation of the Great Convention, and since the Guild acts as Judge for this War of Assassins, they give House Atreides a window of opportunity to rescue their troops. Koltrass makes some immediate calculations and surmises that Ordos and Harkonnen Frigates could "innocently disappear" in the process if the Commander is willing to oblige.

Dune 2000: Atreides - Part 6 - Arrakis belongs to Shai Hulud

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Harkonnen only keep prisoners as slaves, and it is widely known among them at least, that Fremen do not make good slaves. Kari finds the Mentat's lack of foresight insulting, but offers the Commander a chance to save the potential alliance. The Ordos have desecrated the Funeral Plain, the Fremen's sacred ground. What is worse, they have also built a Starport, so more infidels may be smuggled in. The Fremen have put up with Harkonnen before, but the growing corruption of their desert by the hands of the Ordos is more upsetting still.

Tracy Chapman - Mountain O' Things (HOUSE ATREIDES MIX)

Introducing the new electronic music project from Jordan Michael Resnick of The Bad Luck Crowd... HOUSE ATREIDES. For my first remix I chose Tracy Chapman's Mountains O' Things... I love this song, and her lyrics are always socially conscious and inspiring, as well as her amazing voice. I was inspired to give it a danceable beat for the clubs, while still keeping the message and lyrics intact, as to not lose the heart of what the song's message is. Enjoy the first new cut from HOUSE ATREIDES... only from your friends at Bad Luck Crowd Productions. www.myspace.com

Emperor: Atreides - Part 5 - The Choice

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. The Atreides army is versatile to say the least, but in order to adapt to the ever-changing climate the war is creating, they must find new weapons and alliances to survive. Kolinar gives two of the most prominent groups to ally with in the bloody months ahead. The Ix and the Tlielaxu. The Ix tend to ignore the anti-technological dogma imprinted forever on human society during the Butlerian Jihad. The results of their tinkering and tampering end with many interesting (and deadly) machines, available only to the highest bidder. The Tlielaxu avoid the techno-stigma by sidestepping machines altogether. The Duke does not trust the Tlielaxu, as they are not only mercenary, but always seem to have a motive of their own, but he relents such decisions to his field Commanders.

Emperor: Atreides - Part 6 - Invitation To Caladan

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. The Harkonnen disregard Fremen as desert-filth, and although they do not actively pursue them, they cause collateral damage to any Fremen their expansionistic military come in contact with. To them, Fremen are merely slaves they haven't captured yet, or a nuisance that is yet to be wiped out. With Harkonnen reinforcements swelling their pride and aggressiveness, many Fremen are endangered and openly prepare for death to take them. Although he was taught never to accept outsider assistance, Corlin ultimately has no choice at this juncture. Kolinar is ecstatic to accept a Fremen alliance, and feels the friendship will be cemented during Corlin's stay on Caladan. The Fremen is obviously distressed to learn that he will not only be leaving Arrakis, but be leaving the battle as well. Kolinar is nonetheless determined to get him to Caladan, as the Fremen nearly worship water, and Caladan has enough of it to satisfy the entire Fremen population for generations.

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Duke Achillus has gone to meet with the Fremen representatives near the Starport by Castle Caladan. Kolinar proceeds to tell the Commander about Fremen culture, particularly about the Crysknife. Fremen allowing a Crysknife off-world, let alone in the hands of an off-worlder is either considered madness or a sign of very deep trust. Before Kolinar can prepare the Commander further, Duke Achillus transmits terrible news. His personal guard has been murdered and replaced by Face-Dancer (Tlielaxu shape-shifter) assassins. The Fremen have protected the Duke thus far, but it is not certain how long they can survive.

Emperor: Atreides - Introduction

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. House Atreides is one of the three House choices you can make in Emperor: Battle For Dune. Their military balances brutality with cunning. The noble Atreides have been popular ever since the initiation of the Laandsraad, and it is no question why. In a universe filled with political maneuverings, sanctioned assassinations, and mass exploitation, the Atreides represent an ideal that mankind had hoped to achieve in generations past. This has put them at odds with the excessive and vile Harkonnen who have pursued a blood-feud with them ever since their inception. To many they appear soft and incapable, but their armies have proven otherwise, and rivaled that of even the Imperial Sardaukar...a fact which has kept the Emperor very cautious in his scheming. Indeed, the Atreides are fair, benevolent, and idealistic, in a universe that has otherwise abandoned its humanity.

Emperor: Atreides - Part 12 - Abandoned - Draconis IV

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. With everything at stake, the Executrix threw everything they had at the invasion force. The skies crackled with the Chaos Lightning many times throughout the battle, and a certain static in the air continues to make the survivors weary. The Atreides soldiers are forced to wear oxygen masks as they search throughout the complex looking for survivors. The battleground is so thick with chemicals that much of the ice in the lower-quarter has turned to toxic slurry. The citizens of the Ordos are disillusioned and do not know what to do. They're unity, they're purpose, they're wealth, gone in an instant. The Duke has already chosen a puppet-leader for the planet, and has sent out propaganda to all of Draconis IV's citiznes in hopes of achieving a worthy future ally. Although the day is won, and one of the Atreides most hated enemies is defeated, a problem begins to darken the festivities. The Guild Heighliner that delivered them on the planet has abandoned them. Kolinar feels that he has failed the Duke. This is the exact sort of problem which Mentats deduce and forsee, and he was incapable. Duke Achillus knows that no Mentat could calculate this and needs all the assistance that is available to end this horrid war.

Emperor: Atreides - Part 8 - The Warrior Elite

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Duke Achillus and Corlin are safe from Tlielaxu mercenaries. Corlin was as much impressed by the nearby sea, as he was by the Commander's skill in the rescue. The pact that was broken between Atreides and Fremen has been sealed, and the scales may have very well been tipped in their favor. The Fremen know the ways of the desert and it has been calculated that in single combat they are even more powerful than Imperial Sardaukar. Duke Achillus may ascend to the Golden Lion Throne yet. The Mentat warns the Commander that unfortunately on Arrakis a knife can strike anywhere, even in the back.

Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Dune 2000. The Lady Elara has told the Commander that the Emperor has sided with the Harkonnen, yet pulled back his troops from the fray. According to her, the Harkonnen are literally running back across the Funeral Plain, afraid of their weakened state due to the departure of the Sardaukar. However, as is so often with the Bene Gesserrit, this 'warning' is merely a feint within a feint. The Emperor bargained with Elara for her life, in exchange for setting up such a trap. The Commander will travel to the Funeral Plain in hopes of gaining more land for the Duke...but what he will find is line upon line of Harkonnen tanks, with Imperial Sardaukar running along the columns' sides.

While the Harkonnen and Sardaukar regroup, Moneo advises the Commander to strike at the Ordos, in hopes of exploiting the divide between the enemies. Should the Harkonnen attack, then they too will fall, for on this day the Fremen fight for the Duke. Full-Motion cutscene from Westwood Studio's Emperor: Battle For Dune. Center of Operations has fallen. With their still hot planet-capitol sinking into the polar snow, the Executrix have ordered a full retreat. Their strategy of force has failed and cost them billions of solaris in the process. Their combined minds have calculated the odds of all outcomes, and have deemed it impossible to win the current war. The time has come for their stand-by tactic of trickery and espionage, and so all Ordos forces are in full retreat. The Executrix begin to prepar a sizable tribute that would placate either an Atreides or a Harkonnen Emperor, in hopes that if they cannot bring forth their own Emperor, at least they can ride in his pocketbook. Duke Achillus will have none of that, however. Great Houses who buy their way past regulations, procedures, and human decency were what he was trying to stamp out in the Landsraad in the first place. Out of all the shadowy dealings that are made in the Landsraad daily, Achillus knows that the Ordos are the most deeply saturated. To announce the changes to be made in his future reign, he has decided to make an example on the bitterly cold planet of Draconis IV. When the Executrix are brought to their Caladanian imprisonment, the Great Houses will feel the urge to side with him or against him.

He has received many spy reports regarding heavy Tlielaxu activity. All Tlielaxu activity is abnormal, but these particular instances have been disturbing. One might assume they are merely increasing their genetic database, but he believes that the obvious is never the reality. Emperor - Battle for Dune - House Atreides - For the Good of All

Combined Mission Briefings of House Atreides - From the Computer Game "Emperor - Battle for Dune". The mission briefings for the assaults on the homeworlds of house Ordos and house Harkonnen are both included. Trutfully, I have to say Michael Dorn looks far better without a plastic turtle on his forehead. The Atreides Mentat also fares much better in this role than as as a pitiful ineffective Soviet Premier. The Atreides are quite a versatile faction with however in my opinion shockingly ineffective heavy units. Their pretentiously hypocritical claim to righteousness as well as their peculiar affection for the inappropiately belligrent Fremen (I know, I know, I am biased! I never could stand those desert-mice!) sours this faction in my tastes. At least the actors make a decent effort though. *Smirk*
