About 2/3 through the 2011 portion of its tour, Journey came to Raleigh, NC - Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek. This time I was in the the 6th row, dead center (I was in Row 3 in Vegas on 2/23 youtu.be and in a much better position to freely tape. Unlike Las Vegas, Journey had to perform outdoors - in an amphitheatre, and it was near 85 and 90% humidity. It was oppressive for us just standing there grooving to the music, never mind being on stage. The band opened with Separate Ways, and Arnel has a slightly different take - but he again performed his trademark portamento (a gradual slide from one note to another) at the end. Journey played a much shorter set, as they are on tour with Night Ranger and Foreigner. The latter was not on the bill in Las Vegas, and so Journey had about 5 additional songs on the set list. September 5, 2011: Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda flew in from a make up concert in Virginia (courtesy of Hurricane Irene), to join friends and family for a birthday party thrown in his honor in Las Vegas held at the Little Dumpling Asian Buffet. Over 200 gathered from around the US, Germany, Mexico, Japan and other points near and far (as well as live online in the APRocks forum) to celebrate a man whose talent, generosity and humble nature has touched so many. This was shot shortly after he arrived; as you'll see, Arnel is pretty overwhelmed as he greets and thanks everyone.
