Change - Paradise 1981

Change was an Italian dance band or better an Italian producers project. Producers were Mauro Malavasi David Romani & Jacques Fred Petrus This is Change's 2nd Album and the first album without lead vocals by a pre-stardom Luther Vandross. Much ado was made about James Robinson taking over the lead vocal duties, including unfair comparisons. Lost in the discussion was the fact that Miracles is a very good album. The chugging, thumpin' "Paradise" went to number seven R&B in spring 1981. The soul-tugging "Heaven of My Life" was the third single. Its flip side was the mellow "Miracles," a loving ode from a father to his daughter. Other highlights are the dreamy second single "Hold Tight," the smooth radio-aired "Your Move," and the sweet ballad "Stop for Love." Source allmusicguide

MAZE ft Frankie Beverly - Joy and Pain StudioVersion 1980 Lyrics Incl

The Maze anthem Joy & Pain from the album Joy & Pain 1980 Biography source wikipedia The band can be considered as the project of former The Butlers, and later Raw Soul, member Frankie Beverly; being songwriter, record producer, arranger, singer, keyboardist and guitarist. The Philadelphia born Beverly started the group as Raw Soul in 1970. They recorded a couple of singles on the small Gregar label, but without any major hits. But with a few personnel changes, a relocation from Philadelphia to the San Francisco Bay Area in California in 1971, and an introduction to Marvin Gaye, the group became an immediate success. Gaye took the group on the road with him as one of his opening acts, and in 1976 he suggested that they changed their name from Raw Soul to Maze. Maze signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in 1976, and released their debut album, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, in 1977. From that album, the hit singles included "Happy Feelin's," "While I'm Alone," and "Lady of Magic"; ultimately giving them their first gold record and earning Maze a devoted fan base. They also had success with the following albums Golden Time of Day (1978), Inspiration (1979) and Joy and Pain (1980). Their next recording was Live in New Orleans, three quarters of which was recorded at the Saenger Theatre, on November 14--15, 1980. Three of those songs got into the US R&B chart, including "Running Away," "Before I Let Go," and "We Need Love To Live." By that time, the band had both ...

Atlantic Starr - Let's Get Closer 1982

From the 1982 Brilliance album If i heard it well snippets of this song were used I Jaheim & Keyshia Coles I've Changed ........................ Atlantic Starr was among the top urban contemporary acts of the '80s and fared well in the adult contemporary market as well, but their roots were '70s soul and funk. The East Coast outfit was formed in White Plains, NY, in 1976 by three brothers: lead singer/guitarist David Lewis, lead singer/keyboardist Wayne Lewis, and trombonist/percussionist Jonathan Lewis. After the Lewis Brothers hired lead singer Sharon Bryant, trumpeter William Sudderth, saxophonist Damon Rentie (who was replaced by Koran Daniels in 1981), bassist Clifford Archer, drummer Porter Carroll, Jr., and percussionist/flutist Joseph Phillips, Atlantic Starr's original nine-person lineup was in place. Influenced by '70s funk/soul bands like Earth, Wind & Fire, the Commodores, New Birth, and LTD, Atlantic Starr started playing around the northeastern US They had only been together for about two years when they signed with A&M and started working with Bobby Eli, a well-respected producer/songwriter from Philadelphia. Produced by Eli in 1978, Atlantic Starr's self-titled debut album wasn't a mega-platinum blockbuster but did reasonably well and contained the funk hit "Stand Up" (which made it to number 16 on Billboard's R&B singles chart). Surface Ft Regina Belle - You Are My Everything 1988 Albumversion

From Surface's second album 2nd Wave _______________________ Biography by Ed Hogan When you think of the group Surface, the term disco dancefloor doesn't come to mind. The '80s soft soul vocal trio known for such lush ballads as "Closer Than Friends" and the million-selling singles "Shower Me With Your Love" and the number one pop hit "The First Time" had one of its first charting records as artists signed to dance music pioneer Salsoul Records. "Falling in Love," co-written by Surface member David Conley, doesn't have much in common with the aforementioned titles other than the group name and a (presumably) Conley flute solo. The single made it to number 84 R&B in summer 1983 and the UK pop charts. Singer Bernard Jackson who grew up in Stamford, CT, got into the music business through his cousin who lived in New York. Seizing the opportunity, he relocated to New York and began performing around the city. While doing a show in Stamford, his godfather suggested that he contact his nephew David Townsend who was also in the music business. Townsend, a former touring guitarist for the Isley Brothers, was the son of singer/songwriter/producer Ed Townsend who had a hit with "For Your Love" in summer 1958 and wrote the Impressions' "Finally Got Myself Together (I'm a Changed Man)" and co-wrote Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On." Around 1973, Townsend joined a band called the Port Authority where he met David "Pic" Conley. Townsend, whose father shared hit songwriting tips with him ...

Jeff Redd made his solo-entrance into the world of r&b with the amazing Quiet storm album in 1990. As a singer/songwriter and producer Jeff started out with Uptown records which eventually led to an MCA record deal. The album contained contributions by the likes of Timmy Allen, Audrey Wheeler, Chubb Rock, Ron Dean Miller (from Nuance) and K-Ci and JoJo. from Aretha's 'Jump to it' album Another Marcus Miller & Luther Vandross collaboration a superteam in the 80's Luther also did the production hence the trademark of Marcus's Bass playing & Luther's background vocals. ....... Review by Ron Wynn Aretha Franklin scored some hits with this early- '80s album and managed to make concessions to urban contemporary tastes without totally distorting her classic soul sound. While it's certainly not in the class of past recordings, the title cut gave Franklin her first number one of the '80s, and "Love Me Right" was a decent follow-up.

The deal was with Capitol Records and the band was up and running. They debuted with The Brooklyn, Bronx & Queens Band, produced by Petrus and Malavasi, which spawned the hypnotic, wallflower remover "On the Beat," a number three club hit the fall of 1981. Nu Soul Habits - Bring Your Loving Home 1994

From Nu Soul Habits Motown Debut album Meant To Be 1994 .......... One from the late seventies and one from the mid nineties and both destined for obscurity. Nu Soul Habits CD came out on Motown in 1994 to an underwhelming reception. It did obtain a UK release, however, Motowns promotion team stalled at that point. This album is full of slow to mid tempo tunes sung ably by Tonye Hilmon and Eddie Towns Jnr, who don't fight the tunes but allow their voices to cruise effortlessly over the mellow backgrounds. Check out the beautiful 'Bring Your Loving Home' or the tender 'Where Could You Be?'. This reviewers favourite cut is the excellent 'Cross Your Heart' that is 4 minutes 46 seconds of pure soul bliss. source soulwalking.co.uk
