Jack Smith (31 May 1898, The Bronx, New York City -- 13 May 1950, New York City) was known as "Whispering" Jack Smith and was a popular baritone singer in the 1920s and 1930s who made a brief come-back in the late 1940s. He was a popular radio and recording artist who occasionally appeared in films. He began his professional career in 1915, when he sang with a quartet at a theater in the Bronx. After service in World War I, he got a job in 1918 as a "song plugger" for the Irving Berlin Music Publishing Company. He was a pianist at a radio station when he got his singing break substituting for a singer who failed to show up. Smith was exclusively on the radio, but beginning in 1925, he began making records. He also started performing on-stage on the vaudeville circuit. In 1927, Jack Smith was touring England, performing with the Blue Skies Theater Company singing tunes such as "Manhattan" by Rogers and Hart and songs by Gershwin, when he was suddenly replaced by a new all girl singing trio, the Hamilton Sisters & Fordyce. Smith returned to New York and eventually went to work for NBC Radio.

The Comedian Harmonists were a German all-male close harmony ensemble that performed between 1927 and 1934 as one of the most successful musical groups in Europe before World War II. The group consisted of Harry Frommermann (tenor buffo), Ari Leschnikoff (first tenor), Erich Collin (second tenor), Roman Cycowski (baritone), Robert Biberti (bass), and Erwin Bootz (pianist). In 1927, unemployed actor Harry Frommermann was inspired by The Revelers, to create a German group of the same format. Frommermann held auditions in his flat, and once the group was assembled, quickly began rehearsals. After some initial failures, the Harmonists soon found success, becoming popular throughout Europe, touring the United States and appearing in 21 films. The group's success continued into the early 1930s, but eventually ran into trouble with the Nazi regime: three of the group members - Frommermann, Collin, and Cycowski - were either Jewish or of Jewish descent, and Bootz had married a Jewish woman. The regime progressively made the group's professional life more difficult, initially banning pieces by Jewish composers, but finally prohibiting them from performing in public, with their last concert being in Munich on March 25,1934. Frommermann, Cycowski, and Collin subsequently fled Germany and formed a new group, which performed under the names "Comedian Harmonists" and "Comedy Harmonists" with a new pianist, bass, and high tenor. The remaining members in Germany likewise replaced their ...

WHISPERING PINES The Band The Band (1970) If you find me in a gloom, or catch me in a dream Inside my lonely room, there is no in between Whispering pines, rising of the tide If only one star shines That's just enough to get inside I will wait until it all goes 'round With you in sight, the lost are found Foghorn through the night, calling out to sea Protect my only light, 'cause she once belonged to me Let the waves rush in, let the seagulls cry For if I live again, these hopes will never die I can feel you standing there But I dont see you anywhere Standing by the well, wishing for the rains Reaching for the clouds, for nothing else remains Drifting in a daze, when evening will be done Try looking through a haze At an empty house, in the cold, cold sun I will wait until it all goes round With you in sight, the lost are found

Albert Allick 'Al' Bowlly (January 7, 1899 -- April 17, 1941) was a popular British Jazz singer in the United Kingdom during the 1930s, making more than 1000 recordings between 1927 and 1941. Bowlly was born in Mozambique to Greek and Lebanese parents who met en route to Australia and moved to South Africa. He was brought up in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was killed by the explosion of a parachute mine outside his apartment in London during the Blitz. Al Bowlly, Jack MacDermott Orchestra - Whispering (1932)

When I tuned out around 5:30am, Jessica and Eric were still chattering in the HoH bed. I see BB gave them a wake up call (for the pov) and Jessica's in her bathroom dressed and getting ready, Eric's still n her bed. Here Jameka and Amber whisper and while recording I could only hear every 3rd word or so. I think Amber was saying (and thinking) they will backdoor someone because they have every other wk. She is feeling confident she and Jameka will stay, and it sounded like she's discussing them getting the next HoH. (I can barely say that without laughing because 1) she says that every wk and plans around it, and 2) her ass is outta there this wk!) What is funny is that Amber says if Jameka were to win the pov, she's not sure Jameka should use it (to take A off the block), so it doesn't put a target on her. I take this as meaning Amber doesn't want ppl to know they have an alliance and are helping each other in the game. Are you kidding me! Does she really think people don't know they are together! This is one wk where I hope plans do not get changed. After I stopped taping Amber was going thru her bible (looking for directions on winning a veto comp I guess), and BB called her to DR. Feeds then switch to the bathrm where Zach's all sprawled out on the chair and Dani's putting on her make-up, having to reach into her stuff that is RIGHT next to Zach's body.. he makes no effort to move so Dani has to practically smell his armpit to dig thru her bag to get her various make ...

"Whispering Pines" was one of songs sung by Johnny Horton in the late 50s and early 60s. Johnny Horton was born as John Gale Horton in Los Angeles on 30-April-1925 and unfortunately, died in a car accident on 05-November-1960 at the age of 35. I should say he was one of the best country song crooners in the 60's. Why must talented singers died so young?

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com The Del Vikings were one of the first integrated vocal groups in rock 'n' roll. Corinthian "Krips" Johnson, Norman Wright and Clarence Quick were black, and David Lerchey and Donald "Gus" Backus were white. Although the group's two biggest hits, "Whispering Bells" and "Come Go With Me" were released by Dot Records in 1957 and 1958, both songs were actually recorded in 1956 for a small Pittsburgh label called FeeBee Records. The songs became a hit in the local Pittsburgh area and Dot signed the group to a contract. Instead of having them re-record their songs, which was what was usually done in those situations, Dot simply purchased the master tapes from FeeBee and pressed the records from them--a practice that became commonplace later, but Dot was one of the first, if not the first, to do it. www.imdb.com

This is a very short acoustic-guitar version of "Whispering," the jazz standard originally written in 1920 by John Schonberger.

Whispering Braff 1989 Together with the Newport All Stars rhythm group Ruby Braff and Howard Alden are featured in Whispering. Recorded during the 1989 Bern Jazz Festival Cornet master with a distinctive voice by Kenny Mathieson Ruby Braff began his jazz career as an out-of-time traditionalist playing with veteran jazzmen of an earlier age, and rose to establish his own standing as one of the handful of leading artists playing in traditional and mainstream idioms. He was born Reuben Braff in Boston, and was self-taught on his instrument. He said that he wanted to play saxophone, but his father bought him a cornet instead. His trumpet style, which largely eschewed high-note pyrotechnics in favour of a softer exploration of the middle and bottom registers of the instrument, reflected that original love of reed rather than brass sonorities. His loyalty to traditional jazz at a time when the focus had shifted to more modern styles starved him of work for a time in the Fifties, but he returned to prominence with an All-Star touring band created by pianist and jazz impresario George Wein. Wein remained a loyal backer of the cornetist, and featured him regularly on his international tour and festival circuit. In the Eighties and Nineties he made a series of recordings for the major mainstream jazz labels Concord Jazz and Arbors, and formed highly-regarded duo partnerships with pianists like Mel Powell, Ralph Sutton, Dick Hyman, Ellis Larkins and Roger Kellaway. I've applied a bit of Travis-style picking to this 1920 hit for Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra. I believe it was the first piece of recorded music to ever sell a million copies. I've posted a basic tab for this on my website at: www.mjra.net

whispering steppes (慾水英文版本) Love is dear, love is rare Love is never where your eyes would stare Unexpectedly, even blindingly Love will show its face to you, no lie Fears subside, clearly why Time has come for me to stand aside Unencumberedly, though reluctantly Upon the whispering steppes I lie with pride It was the cradle of my hopes now lies my resting grave The warmth of life has left me half-embraced For those who rendered fears and pain I will surely pay with a smile you can't escape Free at last, from the past Time has come for me to greet the vast Unencumberedly, though reluctantly Upon the whispering steppes I lie Unencumberedly, so gracefully Above the whispering steppes I fly
