Edward Wadsworth

Edward Alexander Wadsworth (29 October 1889 -- 21 June 1949) was an English artist, most famous for his close association with Vorticism. Wadsworth was born in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire and educated at BGS in Bristol. He studied engineering in Munich between 1906-7, where he studied art in his spare time at the Knirr School. This provoked a change of course, attending Bradford School of Art before earning a scholarship to the Slade School of Art, London. His contemporaries at the school included Stanley Spencer, CRW Nevinson, Mark Gertler, Dora Carrington and David Bomberg. His work was included in Roger Fry's second Post-Impressionism Exhibition at The Grafton Galleries, 1912, but he changed allegiance shortly after through friendship with Wyndham Lewis, and exhibited some futurist-derived paintings at the Futurist Exhibitions at the Doré Gallery. Although a member of the committee that organised a dinner in honour of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1913, he was one of a number of English painters in the nascent avant-garde that became increasingly disenchanted with the Italian's arrogance. By June of the following year, he was in a group of artists, including Lewis, who jeered Marinetti's public performance of The Battle Of Adrianople. He was a signatory of the Vorticist Manifesto published in BLAST the next month, and also supplied a review of Kandinsky's Concerning The Spiritual In Art and images to be reproduced in the magazine. 33 days after the magazine was published ...

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow "The Day is Done" Poem animation

Heres a virtual movie of the great Henry Wadsworth Longfellow reading his much loved poem "The Day is Done" Longfellow was very much an inspiration to Ralph Waldo Emerson as Emerson was an inspiration to Walt Whitman. These great poets were brothers in the exposition of original thought and transcandentalism that took them into areas of philosophical and theological reasoniing that transcended the narrow conventional Christian doctrines prevalent during their lifetimes. Longfellow wrote some of the most loved and best-known poems in American literature, including "The Day is Done" and "Paul Revere's Ride." He was the first American to be honored with a bust in the Poets' Corner of Westminster Abbey. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine on February 27, 1807, with his family tracing back to the Plymouth Pilgrims. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1825, where Nathaniel Hawthorne had been his classmate. Before he concentrated on poetry, Longfellow spent his early career teaching foreign languages, first at Bowdoin and later at Harvard. He was one of the few American poets who were so popular. He could support himself by writing. Longellow's private life was filled with sadness. His first wife, Mary Storer Potter, died shortly after they were married, and his second wife, Frances "Fanny" Appleton, was killed in a fire. His many poems reflect this sadness. He died at the age of 75, March 24, 1882. Longfellow had the gift for romantic storytelling. He ...

Wadsworth - Lime and Pink (Original Mix)

You dont get much rawer than a Wadsworth bassline. In Lime and Pink the nu-school Detroit producer brings his distinct method of techno hypnosis to One Records in a multi-faceted package that explores a real house vibe and is strengthened by alternative visions from Burnski and jozif. Kicking off with a stripped down bass beat and echoing female vocal snippet Lime and Pink initially pulses with the propulsive toughness of techno. Rising up through the dense, naked bassline, a warping bass synth rhythmically stabs to the groove. When the crisp kick drum gives way to a warm, deep house sound, its enriched by a choice Marvin sample - endlessly used but sounding totally fresh here. Evoking varying emotions and intensity throughout, its a record that displays Wadsworths bare bone talent. With his Open House Mix, Burnski takes Lime and Pink into moody tech house terrain thats both smoky warm and a touch on the dubby dark side. Last on the package but by no means least, the epic Burnski Secret Garden Dub keeps on rolling into the deep with Burnskis signature sexy grooves and swinging club bounce. Coming from the unstoppable young Northern house brood, Burnski has cemented a solid reputation on the scene with an impressive string of releases on labels such as 2020 Vision, Dessous, Real Tone and Hot Creations and many more exciting projects to come throughout 2011. Barefoot is a rattling house ride with yet more serious bass, quirky synths and a house music vocal that brings an ...

"A Psalm of Life" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (poetry reading)

This poem was first published in 1838 in Knickerbocker Magazine. Knickerbockers were the short trousers than boys wore: hence "knickerbocker glory" for a confection of ice-cream, fruit, syrup etc. Let me recount a story that Frank Muir told impromptu about 35 years ago in a radio show called "My Word" to explain a well known saying. "There was once a young English lady who fell in love with a Chinese midget who was a legend in his own country as a professional darts player. They married and returned to England to take up married life together. Li-Fee, which was the husband's name, hoped to continue his illustrious career in his new homeland, knowing that darts was a popular game in England.. Unfortunately he discovered that English darts were not the same as Chinese darts. Chinese darts were short and puffed through a blowpipe, whereas English darts were much bigger and thrown like spear. Li-Fee was much dismayed, because his hopes of a lucrative career were dashed. His wife returned home to finding walking about disconsolately under the table. "Darling, " she said, "whatever is wrong?". He replied, "Li-Fee is short, and dart is long". The aphorism comes from Hippocrates about 400BC. "Ars longa, Vita brevis" although it's usually expressed the other way around "Life is short and Art is long". I wasn't very familiar with this poem and I felt when reading it like the old lady who was taken to see Hamlet "It was very nice but it was full of quotations". "Art is long and Time ...
"The Rainy Day" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (poetry reading)

The pictures were all taken in 1859. The first picture shows Longfellow's three daughters: Annie Allegra, age 4 front, Edith, age 6 left, Alice Mary age 9 at the back. The second shows his wife Fanny, Frances Appleton Longfellow, at the age of 42. Just two years later, while Longfellow was asleep in his study, his wife was sealing their daughter's hair with wax when a spark set fire to her dress. She ran to Longfellow and woke him up. He desperately tried to smother the flames but Fanny was so severely burned that she died that night. Longfellow was burned too, too badly to go to Fanny's funeral. His face was so scarred that he could not shave, and that is why he grew the long white beard that is now the most familiar image of him. After the tragedy he lived with constant grief and the fear that he would go mad. www.uncp.edu This poem is one of the first he wrote after the event. I have a great admiration for Longfellow as a man. He is often ridiculed and despised as a poet, yet he created lines that were so succinct that they have become part of the language, eg "into each life some rain must fall." Longfellow seems to me in every way admirable, a loving husband and father, an industrious scholar, a great teacher and very popular in his day. He reached more people than most poets ever will. His simple poetry has descriptions of the human condition and an attitude to life that seem exemplary. www.hwlongfellow.org The day is cold, and dark, and dreary It rains, and the ...

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - A PSALM OF LIFE - poem

A PSALM OF LIFE by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) rnaudioproductions for www.ipodity.com www.allcast.co.uk Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (February 27, 1807 -- March 24, 1882) was an American poet whose works include "Paul Revere's Ride", The Song of Hiawatha, and "Evangeline". He was also the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy and was one of the five members of the group known as the Fireside Poets. Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine and studied at Bowdoin College. After spending time in Europe he became a professor at Bowdoin and, later, at Harvard College. His first major poetry collections were Voices of the Night (1839) and Ballads and Other Poems (1842). Longfellow retired from teaching in 1854 to focus on his writing, though he lived the remainder of his life in Cambridge, Massachusetts in a former headquarters of George Washington. 'TELL me not, in mournful numbers, life is but an empty dream ! For the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem. Life is real ! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal ; Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul. Not enjoyment, and not sorrow, Is our destined end or way ; But to act, that each to-morrow Find us farther than to-day. Art is long, and Time is fleeting, And our hearts, though stout and brave, Still, like muffled drums, are beating Funeral marches to the grave. Kris Wadsworth - Direct (David Alvarado Remix) - NRK Music

David Alvarado, the LA based house veteran, makes a welcome return to the music scene this month with a remix of Kris Wadsworth's "Direct". Alvarado has been a long time associate of NRK Music, and released the ultra deep mini album, "Transiguration" on the label back in 2004. David has been a consistent favourite on the house scene since his early productions for Strictly Rhythm, Groove On, Yoshi Toshi and Ovum in the 90s, as well as productions for legendary labels such as Peacefrog, Guidance and Plastic City. Recent years has seen David taking a back seat from the wheels of music production, but it is hoped that his remix here for NRK will spark the flames of musicality for more productions to come out over the next year. His remix of Kris Wadsworth's "Direct" is in classic Alvarado style, heavy tribal beats, dubby reverberations, trippy deepness, and dense and engaging production. His remix is already picking up support from the likes of Dixon,Rocky (X-Press 2), Paul Woolford and Jay Tripwire. Wadsworth's new EP comprises two tracks, "Direct" and "Full Body", both treading similar paths of stripped back, raw house tracks. Bleepy yet with plenty of deepness, it's refreshing to see a producer out there not following suit, but producing an individual sound. Certainly these tracks are intended for those who like their house deeper than the black hole! The package is completed by a remix from NRK's Nick Harris, who neatly moulds "Full Body" into a more club firendlier ...

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow -The Wreck of the Hesperus' poem

rnaudioproductions for www.ipodity.com www.allcast.co.uk The Wreck of the Hesperus by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow read by Sean Barrett It was the schooner Hesperus, That sailed the wintry sea; And the skipper had taken his little daughter, To bear him company. Blue were her eyes as the fairy-flax, Her cheeks like the dawn of day, And her bosom white as the hawthorn buds, That ope in the month of May. The skipper he stood beside the helm, His pipe was in his mouth, And he watched how the veering flaw did blow The smoke now West, now South. Then up and spake an old Sailor, Had sailed to the Spanish Main, "I pray thee, put into yonder port, For I fear a hurricane. "Last night, the moon had a golden ring, And to-night no moon we see!" The skipper, he blew a whiff from his pipe, And a scornful laugh laughed he. Colder and louder blew the wind, A gale from the Northeast, The snow fell hissing in the brine, And the billows frothed like yeast. Down came the storm, and smote amain The vessel in its strength; She shuddered and paused, like a frighted steed, Then leaped her cable's length. "Come hither! come hither! my little daughter, And do not tremble so; For I can weather the roughest gale That ever wind did blow." He wrapped her warm in his seaman's coat Against the stinging blast; He cut a rope from a broken spar, And bound her to the mast. "O father! I hear the church-bells ring, Oh say, what may it be?" BLUE SKY DRIVE IN THEATER, Wadsworth Ohio USA

Located in Wadsworth, the Blue Sky is another beautiful Ohio Drive In and this "Outdoor Moovies" segment gives you a good look at it. You'll see the BLUE SKY during the day and night. You'll hear the story about how it came to exist. We'll have a quick chat with a drive in patron, and, we'll also look for the Cleveland area Auto-Rama and Memphis Drive In. I guess it was the downtown movie palaces where I fell in love with the movies. Once in a while, though, we'd go as a family to the STAR LITE, LANSING, CREST, or NORTHSIDE and see the newest Disney release. By the time I was able to drive, a new drive in had been built...the M78. I worked there for it's final 9 seasons. As a teen, I went to the NORTHSIDE quite a bit, it's Tuesday Buck Night was hard to resist. I actually took a girlfriend to the STAR LITE a couple of times. The early '80's saw the LANSING and STAR LITE closing, and by 1992, the closest drive in theater was 40 miles away. Public Access TV provided a great way to visit and document these unique and wonderful places, and, Ohio was an obvious destination after going to all the Michigan drive ins. Thank you for viewing this clip. The RQVOutdoorMoovies Channel is chuck full of drive in theater videos, here's a few you might consider: 1.STARLIGHT AUTO THEATER, Ohio USA 2. Delaney Wadsworth - Prayers for Princess Delaney

Delaney Wadsworth - Honor Date: September 30 In mid June I took my daughter to her doctor in Wyoming. She had been falling down alot and peeing her pants. The Dr. said nothing was wrong, no worries and sent us home. On July 2nd we took her to a different Dr in Colorado. She found nothing wrong, but sent us to the ER for a CT scan. After hours of waiting, the Dr finally came in and told us that my perfect beautiful baby girl has a "growth on her brain". My world fell apart. My husband took Delaney to Children's in Aurora, and I went home to pack a few clothes. When I got to Children's we were talked to by alot of people and were given alot of hope that the tumor was operable. She had an MRI on the 3rd of July, and we were told still it was operable. July 4th, our world once again fell apart. We were told the tumor was inoperable and our baby girl, our only child, our whole life, has only 9 months to live. She had a shunt put in to relieve the pressure in her brain, a brviac line put in, and a biopsy. The biopsy confirmed their diagnosis. She has a diffuse pontine glioma. There is no cure, and radation will give her a little longer. We opted for the experimental 5 day treatment, and started the next week. Delaney has had her 4 week MRI since then, and the results are promising. The tumor has shrunk, and she is doing better. Though this doesn't change what her outcome should be, we believe in miracles and we will never give up until we do find a cure for this horible disease ...
