Quo Vadis (1951) - Nero's Feast

A clip from Mervyn LeRoy's historical epic Quo Vadis (1951), the classic adaptation of Henryk Sienkiewicz' famous historical novel "Quo Vadis: A Narrative of the Time of Nero" (1895). The scene depicts Lygia (Deborah Kerr), adoptive daughter of a retired Roman general and a Lygian princess, visiting a feast for the Roman Emperor Nero (Peter Ustinov) and his wife Poppaea (Patricia Laffan). She's accompanied by Acte (Rosalie Crutchley), Nero's former mistress and eagerly awaited by the Roman general Marcus Vinicius (Robert Taylor) who has fallen in love with her. Marcus's uncle Petronius (Leo Genn), confidante of the emperor, saves Lygia from Nero's wandering eye. While Nero performs his new song, Poppaea is lusting after Marcus Vinicius who's conversing with Lygia.

Quo Vadis - Dead Man's Diary

Quo Vadis - Dead Man's Diary Dead Man's Diary on the nightstand will it hold the truth to an unanswered past Thoughts of yesteryears Will they be revealed to the world at last? Wooden floor cracks as I take a step forward A cold breeze in back of my neck A stench fills the room, the stench fills the room Accumulated dust showed by the moonlight Dark cover manuscript reveals its age My hand apporaches and I feel the rage I'll hunt you down and punish your life I'll nail you to the beams of red I'll watch you bleed and beg for mercy I'll savor the moment when our eyes will meet The content feared, the diary I open First page, "To my love, the first and last" A black and white photo from 1912 An image to remember from a forgotten past I turn the pages, the horror grasps my attention Shocking plots, and detailed footnotes Confession begins: "My actions are haunting me, I must confess. But I fear brutal punishment for years on end." "The truth will stay with me untill my body rests" I'll hunt you down and punish your life I'll nail you to the beams of red I'll burn your flesh, you will be covered with sores I'll feel your pain as you scream for mercy A dark presence overcomes me Agression starts to roar within my veins The pages turn, without applying torque A blank page appears at the end of the plot The ink starts to appear as I read the words My name inscribed, the time of death appears Scripted to today's date, minutes untill tomorrow An unexplainable fear is experienced I ...

Quo Vadis, Domine - Michal Bajor (the main movie trailer theme with English subtitles)

The main theme to Jerzy Kawalerowicz's film "Quo Vadis" ,2001, performed by Michal Bajor, the actor who plays the role of Nero there. The movie is a screening of the world-famous novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz (Nobel prize winner) entitled Quo Vadis. After American and Italian, this has been the third world screening of the novel, the most genuine and faithful to the book of all, in my humble opinion.

Nero sings

Peter Ustinov as Nero from 1951 film "Quo Vadis". The musical composition's name is "Seikilos epitaph". Here are the lyrics he sings (thanks VeritasEtSeveritas): Oh, lambent flame Oh, force divine Oh, omnivorous power: Hail! None is there swifter to bring destruction, Yet carefree as a child Thou with wild breezes playing The old Troy shall be no more because of thee, Thou harvester that strips the soil For men to sow new crops Oh, lambent flames Oh, force divine Oh, omnivorous power Hail!

Quo vadis 2/18

Quo vadis? is a Latin phrase meaning "Where are you going?" or "Whither goest thou?". The modern usage of the phrase refers to a legend in Christian tradition, related in the apocryphal Acts of Peter (Vercelli Acts XXXV), in which Saint Peter meets Jesus as Peter is running from being crucified in Rome. Peter asks Jesus the question; Jesus' answer, "I am going to Rome to be crucified again", prompts Peter to gain the courage to continue his ministry and eventually become a martyr. The phrase also occurs a few times in the Vulgate translation of the Bible, notably including the occurrence in John 13:36 in which Peter also asks the question of Jesus, after the latter announces he is going to where his followers cannot come.
