The Downlow Concept's hysterical ghost story took out the top honours of Oceanias largest filmmaking competition. The film beat 650 other short films to claim a prize package worth $60000 or thereabouts. Team MITCIT V48 Hours NZ Promo

We did the V 48 hours film-making competition in New Zealand this last weekend (16/17/18 April 2010) as "Team MITCIT" - The organisers wanted a 30 sec Team Promo video so here it is. Team MITCIT are lecturers, students and friends of the Manukau Institute of Technology in New Zealand. We drew the genre "Time Travel" - along with a set of compulsory elements - read all about the V48 Hours at www.v48hours.co.nz We took on virtual world computer animation which is an interestingly mad thing to try in a speed film-making competition because it is usually a very slow method. We got most of our story animated but had to do very much a rush job at the end on editing. We plan to post the resulting movie after the competition is over for us. For those following our testing of budget camcorders for education, this promo clip is all shot on an Aiptek Action HD GVS hybrid camera, the later "black" model with the horizontal flash unit. Auto for focus, exposure and colour balance. GVS stabilisation on. Tripod used except for the skipping-along shot which is hand-held by a car passenger but with the tripod still attached to give some inertia mass. Shot at 720p60 then edited in a 25 fps PAL SD timeline for NZ consumption. The p60 seems to convert down just fine to 25fps.

This film was made as part of 48 Hours 2010 and had to include the following... Genre: The Time Travel Movie Character: Sydney Manson - A Fabricator Prop: A Broken Toy Line: "When you look at it that way" Sadly, due to technical difficulties, the film we turned in was replaced by this version for screening in the Auckland heats and was therefore withdrawn from the competition. The Reef (V48 HOURS 2008)

Now subtitled. This DQed short is our best film we've made for V48Hours so far. It took 52 hours to make so we were disqualified. Bugger. That said, this is an incredible effort by those involved: Tai - Animator Max - Animator/Chef Dan - Voice actor Frank - Voice actor/Script writer Roy - Sound engineer Genre: Juvenile Delinquent Movie Dialogue: Wait a minute Character: Kerry Post - Perfectionist Object: Brush The film is based on the MÄori legend of Pania of the Reef. When we got the genre of Juvenile Delinquent we took the angle of the male (Karitoki) being the delinquent, and being chewed out by his overbearing father. The story quickly turned into a film noir and imagery was based on that style. This time we managed to script and voice all the dialogue within the first 6 hours. Our team has not managed to create a dream run like that since.
