Ulver - Blinded by blood (Album: Blood Inside, 2005) Blinded by Blood Lyrics You are From the heart Of it all The light From the love In the night The sight From the white In the eye Crying From the inside The fear In the face From the mother The grace The river From the blood Of the world You become From the two The thousands My little one From the earth It all ends
Ulver- Hymn I: Of Wolf and Fear

The first track from Norway's prolific experimetal band Ulver's 1996 concept album "Nattens madrigal - Aatte hymne til ulven i manden", translated: "Madrigal of the Night - Eight Hymns to the Wolf in Man". The album is rife with lycantropic themes, each track beginning with "Of Wolf and". Later, the band strayed away from their black and folk metal roots and developed a more ambient/experimental sound. Ulver is a personal favorite of mine and for good reason: Innovation. No two Ulver albums are alike. In 2000, after releasing the ambient-sounding "William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell" in 1998, Ulver had lost virtually all identity with the black metal scene marked by the release of the electronica-toned "Perdition City", very different from this album, but still worth a listen to.

a song from their album "Wars of the Roses" (2011) Ulver (Norwegian for "wolves") is a multi-disciplinary musical quartet from Oslo, Norway and now, London, England. The band was formed by Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg in 1993, and their current members are Rygg (vocal, programming), Jørn H. Sværen (misc.), Tore Ylwizaker (programming, piano) and latest member Daniel O'Sullivan (guitar, piano, various). Since their first folk metal/black metal release in 1993, Ulver's style has ever been changing by combining elements of experimental, electronic and ambient music, avant-garde, rock, trip-hop, and their own genre-defying innovations.
Ulver - 03 - Christmas

A god is born and others die. What is has neither come nor gone, but error moves. Today we have exchanged eternities and what is past no novelty improves. Blind knowledge is working at useless ground and crazy faith is living the dream of its liturgy a new god is a word - or the mere sound don't seek and don't trust, for all is mystery.
Ulver - Nowhere/Catastrophe

You fly, or rather float, drift Through an enormous dark room A room of noises Endless shimmering glissandi Crackling pizzicato Coal black, turbulence holes of bass drones But otherwise empty No planets, no meteorites If anything, perhaps fine dust clouds of exploded music You float there, somewhere between pleasure and fear In a piece of time you can't determine You're everywhere but in the present Hey you disappear further and further Into these incalculable rooms And your personality fades away Your features evaporate, your body decomposes And your last thought is that you have become a noise A thin, nameless noise among all the others Howling in the empty dark room Kristoffer Rygg. - Vocals, synths, drums Tore Ylwizaker - Synths, piano, bass

Ulver - Not Saved (my own personal winter)

It's this time of year again...and this song is so very special. No matter how many times I've listened to it, it still sends the coldest shivers down my spine. I thought I'd upload it with a bit more than just the cover .../... with a story.

Helheim - Dualitet og Ulver - Featuring Hoest (Taake)

Following the release in November of "Åsgards Fall", Norwegian Viking Metallers HELHEIM have released a video for a track taken from the MCD. "Dualitet og Ulver" which features a guest appearance by TAAKE's Hoest, both on the track itself and on the video, was filmed in the mountains surrounding the band's home town of Bergen. Always a band that celebrates and respects its ancient Nordic heritage, HELHEIM has taken the story of two wolves, Hati and Skoll, for "Dualitet og Ulver", which translated means "Duality and Wolves". Legend has it that the two wolves tried swallow the sun and the moon, and the song uses this imagery to illustrate that there can be no light without darkness and no day without night. If either is destroyed, be it by natural catastrophe, or human actions, only primordial chaos will remain. Both are hanging by a fragile thread that can easily be torn apart by the wolf, which is one of earth's natural predators. The duality of light and darkness must therefore be preserved and balanced not only by nature, but also my humans. The video was made by Mats Andersen & Øystein Fyxe.

Ulver - Gnosis

The lyrics are inspired from Arthur Rimbaud's "A Season in Hell", the Bad Blood chapter; the band was also inspired by another poet, William Blake, for an earlier and fantastic album, namely "Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell". The band's site is www.myspace.com ; Enjoy! Lyrics: Science - The new aristocracy Progress - The world is on the march Why shouldn't it turn too? It's the vision of numbers. Ulver - Magic Hollow (from Childhood's End)

Promo video for Ulver's take on Beau Brummels' 'Magic Hollow' taken from the forthcoming album 'Childhood's End'. Directed by Justin Oakey. Ulver: Childhood's End Classic psychedelic tracks re-worked by Norwegian legends. Early pioneers of Norwegian black metal, Ulver have continually evolved throughout their career and now stand as living legends of the 'dark' music industry, blending rock, electronic, industrial and symphonic traditions along with ambient soundscapes and experimental sounds to create groundbreaking material. Last year they released the critically acclaimed War Of The Roses album which was described by Zero Tolerance as 'a beautiful record of startlingly powerful depth', and Mojo magazine elaborated 'Ulver's genre-weaving musical noir channels David Sylvian, the ghosts of Coil and Pink Floyd in sumptuous melancholy mode.' They return with Childhood's End, a collection of classic - mostly obscure - psychedelic tracks recorded by the band over an extended period and a few different sessions; starting in late 2008 and ending in late 2011, 'this is the stuff that we sit at home and get stoked about' explains Kristoffer Rygg in a recent Kscope video interview. He continues: 'I grew up with parents who were still listening to music from the time, so it informed my childhood, but it has became an ever increasing geeky sort of fetish since then.' Ulver - February MMX (from Wars of the Roses)

Wars of the Roses, the latest album from Ulver was released on Kscope earlier this year. The album has been hailed by Metal Hammer as "an approachable and engaging introduction to a most unorthodox and enigmatic band" and it has also inspired fan and filmmaker Martin Hilstad to create a new video to accompany the album's opening track, February MMX. The band have made this statement about this video: 'Ulver would like to officially acknowledge: Martin Hilstad (Director), Torbjørn Sæther (Photo) and Martin Rotmo (Producer/FX) from Norges Kreative Fagskole and Arve Buhaug (Actor) for their diligent work on this Matrix-esque adaptation of February MMX' Ulver, Olso, May 2 2011. Director: Martin Hilstad Photo: Torbjørn Sæther Producer/FX: Norges Kreative Fagskole Actor: Arve Buhaug Produced in association with Norges Kreative Fagskole, Trondheim Promo for February MMX, taken from the album 'Wars of the Roses', out now on Kscope. Kscope are very proud to announce that Ulver are the latest band to join their roster. Early pioneers of Norwegian black metal, the band have continually evolved throughout their career and now stand as living legends of the dark music industry. Thematically, the same is at stake as always with Ulver: the human condition and a world in fall. But this time the landscape is viewed from a bird's eye perspective, exposing culture and tradition rather than the personal vulnerability expressed on previous albums.
