Moby On Sobriety

The singer, deejay and composer, who says he first took drugs at age 10, talks about entering sobriety in his forties. 'It's taken the anxiety and depression and made it better.' Highlights include: Moby's Partying Years 'There was a period when I drank like a crazy person just to feel normal. I had this comprehensive inability to drink in moderation. I'd want to sit in a cafe, have one beer and be normal. Fast-forward eight hours: I've had 15 drinks, there are 20 strangers in my apartment and there are people smoking crack in my bathroom.' Moby's Childhood 'I did drugs because I wanted to hang out with the cool kids. At the time, the way I was able to do drugs at 10 is that I was stealing drugs from my Mom and her boyfriends. At 13 or 14 I stopped doing drugs and had about five years of sobriety. Then drank, stopped drinking, drank, stopped drinking. And now hopefully I'm just done forever.' Emotional Sobriety

Natural Highs Attaining that "Feel Good" State the Natural Way: Finding Emotional Sobriety Our thoughts, emotions and our behavior ALL effect our body chemistry. Just climbing out of bed in the morning and getting into a hot shower or bath, for example, elevates our levels of serotonin "nature's natural anti depressant" and makes it easier for us to get into a positive frame of mind. In fact, extensive research studies reveal that taking a brisk walk four times a week can be as effective in managing depression as medication. It is remarkably easy, actually, to attain that "feel good" state if we just adopt a few good habits and keep them going. Here's a little about what these "natural antidepressants" can do for us: Serotonin keeps our moods balanced and up beat. It calms anxiety and improves our sleep. Touching releases oxytocin, that bonding chemical that mediates emotional closeness. It paradoxically helps us to feel close and connected AND to set boundaries. Hot baths or showers give us a shot of prolactin (and serotonin) which is associated with that serene state that nursing mothers enjoy. These are nature's mood stabilizers; they act in the brain and body in the same way that anti depressants act; they help us manage our moods. When we don't make use of the medicine chest nature put inside of us to calm and soothe ourselves, we may want to turn to synthetic or artificial solutions to feel better and regulate our emotions. We might grab a substance like alcohol ...

Tanita Tikaram - Twist in my sobriety (Alf Tumble Re-dress)

Alf Tumble is that Swedish dude known to produce soulful grooves of such funky calibre that would make Stevie Wonder himself go break-dancing. As one half of the SUMO duo, hes been deliviering funky, soulful, afro-latin tracks by the dozen since early 1999. Sumo steadily evolved into Bangana, that strips down the music to the essential parts, cutting out all the vocal involvment and rather introducing dark drums and comsic synthesisiers. Alf just droped us a back to the deepest roots re-rub of a disco tune by Tanita Tikaram. Pure ear candy remake of another forever classic. Big up!

Napa Sobriety Checkpoint! Many people getting arrested!

Private Limousine Service: www.prvtlimo.com Designated Driver Wine Tour Guide: www.winecountrydriver.com I shot this video after dropping off my clients after at their vacation rental property. My clients spent a full day Wine Tasting and Dining (9 - 8:15pm) when we noticed this sobriety checkpoint on Trancas Street in Napa just a few blocks West of the Silverado Trail. We were headed East so we weren't stopped. I decided to go through the checkpoint on my way home after dropping off my clients get video of the checkpoint. The first thing I notices was the two police vehicles stationed in the dirt opposite the Silverado Trail. I believe these officers were waiting to chase anyone that turned around. As I drove through the checkpoint I saw one guy getting arrested and placed in the back of a police car. I also saw a processing trailer with a male and female handcuffed. I was waved on so continued filming and saw one male taking a field sobriety test and many other people heading toward the processing trailer.

The Man With Two Brains -- drunk test is hard

"The Man With Two Brains" (1983) starring Steve Martin and Kathleen Turner. In this very funny scene, Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr (Steve Martin) is driving his dead wife, Dolores Benedict (Kathleen Turner), to a castle in order to swap her brain for the brain-in-a-jar of the woman he now loves (watch the movie, it sorta makes sense). During his frantic driving, the police stop the doctor for speeding. The drunk test turns out to be quite hard. "Dead? My God! I better get her to a cemetery right away."
