One of his great performances on American Juniors and I must say his most powerful one. No one knew he had such power in his voice until this performance! It still confuses me that he didn't make it into the final group. 2. Lucy Hale - Make it Easy on Yourself (age 13). She - like AJ - was one of the finalists on American Juniors and she did make it into the group. This performance sure shows why. 3. Morgan Burke - Somewhere Over The Rainbow (age 10). His first huge performance when he was only 10 years old. He performed at Showtime at The Apollo and the crowd loved him. And with that voice and cute looks, who wouldn't? 4. Katelyn Tarver - Ain't No Mountain High Enough (age 13). She did not have the best voice of the ten American Juniors finalists, but this performance was really great and it truly showed that she still does have a really good voice. 5. Danielle Freid - I Must Believe (age 9). Danielle was the lead in a musical and her vocals are really impressive. She was only 9 years old, but both her singing and her acting was fantastic! 6. AJ Melendez - The Night Has A Thousand Eyes (age 12). Another terrific American Juniors performance. I love this one. Jeanne Riley had cut a demo record for one of her songwriter friends, Royce Clark called "The Old Town Drunk." It was a sarcastic ballad of the old drunk that everyone in town made fun of until one day when they found his hat floating in the river and his shoes next to the river bank. The whole town got concerned and started dragging the river looking for his body. All the while the old town drunk was on the hillside, overlooking the entire scene, laughing. He finally came down and told the folks he was glad he was so well thought of. When the song was played for producer Shelby Singleton of Plantation records. He wanted to know, "who's that girl doing the singing?" Shelby had been presented a song from a struggling songwriter named Tom Hall called "Harper Valley PTA" but he was not sold on the song due to the arrangement and the voice of the singer on the demo. Vocal range is basically expanded and increased by vocalizing more, by studying, by training, but the principal behind is that there is an overtone series in the voice and when the voice is aligned physically more correctly, because singing is a very physical event, it's a coordination of air and muscle, and you must master the breath and you must master your alignment. I always talk a lot about alignment, your chest has to be up, your chin has to be down, your head has to be back. If you are jutting forward when you are singing, you're going to be singing from these muscles and you really need to, in order to get that column of air and that flow of breath, your chin needs to be down and your head needs to be back. So alignment is a very important part of this. So the vocal range gets expanded when the overtone series starts to ring. Bought a treadle operated singer sewing machine for $150.00. Don't know if that's a good deal or not but I had been wanting one for a long time and when it came up for sale on craigslist I just had to get it. The history of the machine is this. Linda,s granny got this machine in 1911. Linda watched her granny sew clothes on it until granny passed and linda,s momma got the machine. Lindas momma had it till she passed in 2006 then Linda got it. Linda doesn't see and needs the space this was taking up so she reluctantly sold it. She was glad to see it go to someone who appreciates fine machinery and can fix things. I told her when I restored it I'd send her a video of me sewing on it. My first project will be adding a zipper to the windshield curtains on my truck. My wife wants to try her quilting on it as well. I'm happy to have this and can't wait to get started cleaning it up.

This special PBS production, taped in Baltimore at the beginning of that 1984 tour, is a treasure for music lovers who understand that the thing they love can be charmingly goofy. The highlight of the disc, and the routine that most fans remember most fondly, is her discussion of the Ring cycle. She tells the convoluted story of Wagner's four-installment epic, with careful attention to its absurdities, and she sings all the roles in a voice ranging shakily but with determination through soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. She does the same in her parody of a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, and the advantage of a video recording becomes obvious when she changes funny hats while singing to show whether she is acting the heroine, villain, or chorus.
