The baby Jag, as it was universally referred to (before the name was announced, anyway), would bring the leaping-cat cachet to a much wider audience, one that was eager for Jaguar's almost mystical combination of Olde English snob appeal wrapped in sexy, feline sheetmetal. Since it went on sale midway through 1999, the S-type has been a commercial success, nearly doubling the marque's sales. But, while the public has rushed to embrace it, critics have scrutinized the S-type because it's the first Jaguar to share its platform with a Ford Motor Company product (the Lincoln LS). Although all S-types are assembled at Castle Bromwich, England, the car was engineered with Ford. Ardent Jaguar fans were concerned that the S-type could be something less than a true Jaguar because of that. Turns out that the under-the-skin commonality with Lincoln was handled adroitly. The two cars drive differently, and the S-type feels like a Jaguar. But after twelve months and 30000 miles with a sapphire-blue S-type 4.0, count us among those who see elsewhere in the S-type a veneer of Britishness, of Jaguarness, that in places appears thin. Take, for instance, that feline sheetmetal. Start at the front--no subtlety here with the oval grille and four round headlights. By and large, it works. A look around the unmistakeable & underrated Jaguar S Type. Not many people love it but I do, & thats what matters. Very distinctive on the road from a long distance unlike so many cars today. And this is true when viewed even from the rear which is another big plus. Jaguar design DNA running throughout the car is clear for all to see. Yes it has Ford stamped on it, yes it shares parts from within the Ford Parts Warehouse. Well, why the hell not, what is the point in extra design & manufacturing costs? None whatsoever. Everybody has either re-used or crossed over on components because it makes finacial sense. Yet, when Jaguar do it they get slagged off! People over look Audi, BMW & VW passing parts over to their umbrella brands. Bentley, Mini & Skoda to name just a few. The big grille got moaned about, hmmm what about those cars recently launched by Alfa Romeo, Bugatti (Veron), Peugeot and others. And most of the folk that slag it off have never driven one nevermind owned one! These cars are brilliant, reliable & well built. And can now be bought for little money if they have high mileage, something they would not achieve if they were unreliable! So, now I have all that off my chest no doubt someone will comment on how their car was terrible. Some probably were, but I know of other prestige makes that have failed to perform too. These include Land Rover, Audi, BMW, Nissan, Toyota, Toyota Lexus, Bentley & Rolls Royce failing to proceed!!!

The S-Type Jaguar for 2008 (which will be its final production year) shows its British heritage in more ways than one. Firstly its typically Jaguar styling cues, such as the rear quarter windows, and in particular the grille - actually more reminicent of the C-Type than the Mk.II which most people compare it to. Secondly, the S-Type is made at the Jaguar factory at Castle Bromwich where the legendary wartime Spitfire fighter plane was produced. Jaguar stylists paid tribute to this, and the eliptical curve of the Spitfire's wing is a motif for many of the exterior and interior shapes of the S-Type.

Nine Types of Light is as much an album as it is a movie by TV on the Radio. The movie is meant to be a visual re-imagining of the record, and includes a music video for every song on the album. The band personally asked their friends and the filmmakers they admired to help direct the music videos. Tunde Adebimpe, the director for the full Nine Types of Light movie, storybooked the music videos together with interviews from local New Yorkers on various topics, including dreams, love, fame and the future.
