The arrangement that I did in GarageBand is hard to play as written because GarageBand is limited with notation. It's correct, it's just confusing which hand does what. 48 basic piano chords
A nice sounding sequence in all 12 keys. This sequence starts with a C major chord, then moves the middle note down to make C major 7th, then the middle note moves down again to create C7 ("C dominant"). Finally the middle note moves down one last time and the root moves down a fifth (or up a fourth) to F. This sequence is then repeated in all twelve keys. At first I have just the right hand notes written in. You will eventually want to know the 3rds and 7ths of all your basic 7th chords. With practice this will give you a strong foundation. I repeat the whole exercise a second time with the notation written in (and note names written undert the staff for those of you who don't read music so well). Easy Patterns for Piano Accompaniment - Play and Sing - Chords 101

They work the best when you're reading and singing from a Fake book or lead sheet. Here are the three basic ways I accompany myself on piano when I'm singing. LRLR or LRR LRR for 3 time songs where you count 123 123. This is good when you want the music to be uplifting or create some rhythms to dance to. BLLL BLLL good for rock stuff HOLD for 4 beats - Good for jazz and ballads. or if you are just learning a song and trying to get the hang of playing and singing it. If you get these basic patterns down, its really easy to add a little variation in the rhythms to create a lot of new vocabulary for your playing.

Autumn Leaves - Jazz piano trio
Go to www.youtube.com for a much improved version in HD and Widescreen. Another experiment - this time, I took a jazz trio midi file that I had previously done, and annotated with text comments. Lots of students learn 'Autumn Leaves' as one of the first standards they play, so I thought that this might be a useful source of ideas. It is in the fake book key, and the chord symbols appear above the music. This was imported into the Band in a Box program - this program will read these text 'markers', and it also has quite a flexible notation view. Note that in the notation view the bass and treble clefs don't accurately reflect the Left and Right hand parts. In addition, for those who can't easily sight read music, there is a very big and clear Piano view. I hope that some students might find this useful. I have produced lots of other jazz midi files at www.bushgrafts.com that can be treated in a similar way. Donna Lee played at 180 BPM. The backing is made in Band In A Box. The piano is an audio real time recording from my yamaha cp-300. This is the minimum speed requred to get the bebop feel. U must start practising this song at low speed, and as long as u are not improvising over this, u must behave like it is an classical piece and be very accurate with your finger setting. Ive been told that his piece is a "must know" tune for all jazz piano players, and of course very helpful especially for the right hand. When u can play the tune with your right hand, start playing chords with ur left hand.The bebop feel in this tune is something that i will need to work to achive for the rest of my life i think.
