Adam Shankman is a hands-on guy with a passion for dance, so it's not surprising that he was deep in the mix for the Academy Award dancer auditions. The producer's first big gig was as a dancer on the Oscar telecast 20 years ago, which is why choreographing the Academy Awards (along with all his other duties) was so important to him. Today's auditions were for union and non-union professionals who were proficient in Contemporary style. And, under black clouds and torrential rains, guys and girls showed up ready to have their butts whipped. Lots of familiar faces too, if you're a So You Think You Can Dance fan. Not only were the season six winner, Russell Ferguson and runner up Kathryn McCormick there, but also fellow season sixers, Ellenore Scott and Legacy Perez. KaylaRodomski from season five and Travis Wall from season two were helping Shankman conduct the auditions and Katee Shean from season four was in the mix trying out for the Oscar show. There are big changes in store for the Awards, Shankman tells HollywoodOutbreak.com. He's tightening up the act, leaving the demanding categories to his skilled hosts, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin and saving celebs from humorless attempts at comedy. Royal Wedding (MGM) is a 1951 Hollywood musical comedy film known for Fred Astaire's dance performance on a ceiling and with a coat rack. The story is set in London in 1947 at the time of the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and stars Astaire, Jane Powell, Peter Lawford, Sarah Churchill and Keenan Wynn, with music by Burton Lane and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner. Oscar Figueroa (in the white graduation robe) was a featured dancer in Disneys: Highschool Musical 3: Senior Year and was asked by East Highschool in Salt Lake City to come and perform at an assembly, where he was given dancers to teach the choreography to and make a danceable stage version of the finale number. The new, 2009 reinvention of Fame takes its inspiration from Alan Parkers Oscar®-winning 1980 film. With its indelible images of students joyously dancing on taxicabs and Irene Caras hit rendition of the films theme song ringing in the nations ears, Fame became a critical hit and a film experience people took to heart. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards® and won two: Best Music (Original Score) and Best Music (Original Song) for Fame. Its other nominations were for Film Editing, Music (Original Song) for Out Here On My Own, Sound, and Writing (Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen). With a devoted fanbase, the film struck a major chord with audiences, and over the next two decades Fame became a quasi cottage industry, spawning a popular television series that ran for several seasons and lives on in syndication and on DVD, a Broadway musical, a world tour, and a reality TV show long before American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance became hit television staples.
