NIMBYism's Threat to Renewables
A recent poll said 63 percent of Americans support renewable energy investment...in theory. But in practice, Not-In-My-Backyard (NIMBY) opposition to new energy infrastructure prevents about 45 percent of renewable energy proposals from being built across the country, according to the US Chamber of Commerce. Correspondent Lee Patrick Sullivan visits Maryland and Michigan to learn how NIMBYism is stopping new renewable projects from being built, and preventing people from taking charge of their energy future.

Keystone XL pipeline delayed by nimby protest
www.nma.tv Americans are dying for oil overseas. So why not buy more oil from a friendly supplier like Canada? The Keystone pipeline transports oil from Alberta to refineries in Illinois and Oklahoma. An extension pipeline, Keystone XL, would extend the system to refineries in Texas. But green groups have formed an unlikely alliance with conservative Nebraska ranchers and state politicians to oppose the pipeline on environmental grounds, and the Obama administration has given in to their demands. Obama has delayed a decision on the Keystone pipeline until 2013, well after next year's presidential elections. What will Obama's labor supporters say about the loss of 20000 shovel-ready jobs? If the US won't buy Alberta's oil, Canada can always sell to the energy-hungry Chinese. In the meantime, American soldiers will have to live with a little less energy security.

We are an Industrial Artists collective who have worked with: Pyrokenetics, Dr. Megavolt, Flaming Lotus Girls, SRL, Firefall, SimNuke, and Acme Muffineering. Concept and The Show A team of high-level rat scientists have gotten hold of a Tesla Coil and will be testing it on a living human test subject in a special metal suit designed to protect the human, or so the rat scientists hope. They will lure the human out under this suspended 1.3 million volt Tesla Coil with man's favorite drink Beer. The un-suspecting human will be surprised to find out that this particular can of beer has been grounded to the giant coil. When he approaches for refreshment, the giant coil will come to life and he will receive a massive bolt of lighting to the head. This, we call the reverse Pavlovian an experiment. The rat scientists will be training the human to operate all of the machinery involved in the show using the positive and negative re-enforcement of a lightning bolt. We will have a Narrator/Barker explaining the science of the Tesla Coil and the principals of the suit and the experiments. The barker will narrate the performance as the rat scientists perform the experiments on the human. We will also do experiments with massive power distribution and switching equipment like that used by the power utilities. Our show is much more informative than our previous <b>...</b>

Mpls Park Commissioners call Mondale a NIMBY
Dec. 19, 2007 was a bad day for Vice Presidents. In the morning, black smoke wafted from a fire at Vice President Dick Cheney's ceremonial office in Washington, DC But worse was yet to come Wednesday evening at the meeting of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, where former Vice President Walter Mondale's international reputation was left a smoldering ruin after comments by a couple of Minneapolis park commissioners. Mondale, a recent immigrant to the downtown Minneapolis riverfront, had written a letter in opposition to the proposed Crown Hydro project at St. Anthony Falls. That was enough for Commissioner Carol Kummer, a project defender to dismiss Mondale as "a bit of a NIMBY" and "less than ... open-minded." Not to be outdone, Park Board President Jon Olson (a 2006 Fifth District Congressional also-ran) characterized Mondale's opinion, by analogy, as "so self-serving it's not even funny." But the former vice president got the last laugh: the park board voted down further study of the Crown Hydro project. And in doing so, they put a perfect bookend on the day for Vice President Cheney, who last year helped raise money for another congressional candidate, Michele Bachmann, at the Minnetrista mansion of none other than William Hawk, the main money man behind Crown Hydro.
