Les Paul & Mary Ford on Omnibus (7min version with jokes)

Les Paul & Mary Ford appear on Alistair Cooke's "Omnibus" (10/23/1953) to dispel rumors that their recordings are all electrical gadgetry. They perform two demonstrations of their recording techniques (one fake making fun of rumors and on real with his multitrack recorders. He is using his now famous Ampex model 200 machines (1-inch tape) given to him by friend Bing Crosby. He added an extra recording playhead to each to create the 1st multitrack system. (note: this is NOT the Ampex 8-track Les Paul commissioned in 1954 and finished in 1957.)

Les Paul. Guitarist Extraordinaire. 1

Les Paul was a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which made the sound of rock and roll possible. His many recording innovations include overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects and multitrack recording. In January 1948, Paul was injured in a near-fatal automobile accident in Oklahoma, which shattered his right arm and elbow. Doctors told Paul that there was no way for them to rebuild his elbow in a way that would let him regain movement, and that his arm would remain in whatever position they placed it in permanently. Paul then instructed the surgeons to set his arm at an angle that would allow him to cradle and pick the guitar. It took him a year and a half to recover. en.wikipedia.org

OKKO Diablo Gain+: Les Paul to HIWATT Custom 50 SA212

www.stompbox.de Heiko over at OKKO in Germany makes some of Europe's (and the world's) best pedals. The Diablo is a classic example. It has tons of tone shaping capability, versatility, it's built well, has great looks and it's fundamental tone is killer. This one's a keeper for me and can compete easily with the higher end of other great drives I have in my possession. This video was made with a Larry Corsa modded Les Paul (Peter Green '59 Burst specs) and a HIWATT Custom 50 SA212 amp. A Shure SM57 handled the microphone duties and Pro Tools 9.02 did the recording honours via an M-Audio ProFire 610. Cheers, Brett K.

Les Paul on Django

Les Paul talks about Django Reinhardt and shows a Selmer guitar that he says was given to him by Django. This is possibly the guitar that Charles Delaunay took to America for Django in 1946 but was damaged in transit. Les Paul helped Naguine and Babik Reinhardt when they were virtually pennyless after Django died. It has been claimed that this Selmer was given to Les by Naguine after Django died but if he (Django) really did own this model, it does not show any signs of having been played. Selmer No. 503 was the guitar Django used during the last few years of his life and that is in a museum in France.
1959 Les Paul & Trainwreck Amp - "Can You Hear It Ring?"

Original 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard (with NO pedals) straight into a 1989 Trainwreck Express amp. Playing excerpts from Glen Kuykendall's own "Can You Hear It Ring?" CD and other bluesy improv. Pardon the intro run, later I realized I was totally in the wrong fretboard position which was making it much trickier! Oh well, luckily it's MUCH cleaner on my CD and Myspace clips. Mostly though, this video is improvised stuff to demo the gear and range of tones by simply working the guitar knobs and playing dynamics. I'm now also offering ONLINE guitar lessons via a SKYPE connection, more information on my webpage. For more information: www.glenkuykendall.com www.thedrumkey.com
