There was a heavy snowfall that day, so the Swedish troops marched to this slow march. In 1818, Erik Gustaf Geier wrote lyrics for the march to honor the 100th anniversary of king Carl XII:s death. In Finland, this march is always played during military funerals. It has been played in civilian funerals, as well, such as the funeral of president Kekkonen.
