Piece from the movie: Le Roi Danse (The King is Dancing) Air pour Madame la Dauphine Some Info: Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) Italian-born composer (French nationality from 1681). Entered service of Louis XIV 1653, composed instrumental music for the court ballets. From 1664 collaborated with Molière in series of comedy-ballets which were forerunners of French opera, the last and most famous being Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, in which Lully danced role of the Mufti. Having assimilated both Italian and French styles and tastes, from 1673 he turned to opera composition and obtained from the King exclusive rights to arrange operatic performances in Paris. His death was caused by a gangrenous abscess which formed in his foot after he struck it with the long staff he used for beating time on the floor while conducting a Te Deum to celebrate Louis XIV's recovery from illness.

Both Risler and Cortot became pupils of Louis Diemer after completing the preparatory classes of Emile Descombes , a disciple and perhaps student of Chopin. Both won the coveted premier prix while they were Diemers students--Risler in 1889 and Cortot in 1896. The young Cortot wrote of Risler's playing, "I immediately felt myself engulfed by the music; it -was not just a matter of-what he was playing, but also his charm, his faculty to reveal - to communicate the incommunicable. His unique way of making music overwhelmed me, it entered into me, into my very flesh. Risler presented to me a magical -world -which previously I had only known as an onlooker. He opened my soul to the appreciation of a music that was born of spontaneous inspiration. His feeling for orchestral colour was something that I had never associated with the piano. From that moment I understood how the vocation of the interpreter could transcend the metier of the pianist, I knew... I could see... I believed, and I was clear in my vision." Risler's performance of the Chabrier Idylle is an absolute delight.

Richard Bonynge conducting here. This piece is a ballet in an operetta called "Lysistrata" by Paul Lincke. It became popular, so the legend goes, by virtue of Pavlova's dancing it and the music then entered the popular domain as "Glow-worm".

Theodor (or Theodore) Oesten (1813-70) was a German composer, pianist and teacher, who was born, studied and worked in Berlin. As well as piano, he was also proficient on the clarinet and other wind and stringed instruments. He became famous for his salon pieces - many of them educational - but also wrote symphonies and choral music. Gorgeous Vanessa Paradis singing Divine Idylle to her Johnny right across from us in opposite box seats. So romantic. Beautiful, flawless concert with simply lovely songs and talented musicians without any frills or gimmicks. Absolute treasured moments for full sold out theater house, but intimate quaint setting at Orpheum in downtown Los Angeles was perfection. Sorry, the sound quality for her is great though my iPhone but a bit of background conversation between my friend Shiva and I about genius Serge Gainsbourg.

Siegried Idyll - 1. Teil (für Streichorchester) Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn Dirigent: Paul Meyer In Tribschen wurden Wagners Kinder Eva und Siegfried geboren. Für Cosimas 32. Geburtstag schrieb Wagner zur Erinnerung an die Geburt seines einzigen Sohnes heimlich das Siegfried-Idyll und ließ es am 25. Dezember 1870 in Tribschen mit einem kleinen Kammerorchester (ua Richter, Ruhoff, Rauchenecker und Kahl) aufführen. Cosima notierte in ihrem Tagebuch: Wie ich aufwachte, vernahm mein Ohr einen Klang, immer voller schwoll er an, nicht mehr im Traum durfte ich mich wähnen, Musik erschallte, und welche Musik! Als sie verklungen, trat R. mit den fünf Kindern zu mir ein und überreichte mir die Partitur des „Symphonischen Geburtstagsgrußes", in Tränen war ich, aber auch das ganze Haus. Auf der Treppe hatte R. sein Orchester gestellt und so unser Tribschen auf ewig geweiht! Die „Tribscher Idylle" so heißt das Werk. (...) Nach dem Frühstück stellte das Orchester sich wieder ein, und in der unteren Wohnung ertönte nun die Idylle wieder, zu unserer aller Erschütterung; darauf Lohengrin's Brautzug, das Septett von Beethoven, und zum Schluss noch einmal die nie genug Gehörte! Nun begriff ich R.'s heimliches Arbeiten, nun auch des guten Richter's Trompete (er schmetterte das Siegfried-Thema prachtvoll und hatte eigens dazu Trompete gelernt).
