Hydroponic Lettuce, Tomatoes, Trinidad Scorpion Pepper & Some Too Tall Corn

The Hastings Prolific corn is getting too tall. It's touching the plastic already, with no tassles yet. Gonna let it go and see what happens. My rail system for the hydroponic lettuce is doing pretty good. I've moved the 3 Big Beef tomatoes into a larger dutch bucket setup and they look great. Just for fun, I put a Trinidad Scorpion pepper in a dutch bucket and it is doing very well. All in all, I'm extremely satisfied with how the hydroponic setups are doing.

Easy 30 Day Hydroponic Lettuce

I started this hydroponic rail system about 30 days ago, having absolutely zero experience in hydroponic growing. Thru a few basic steps, I was able to grow some perfect hydroponic lettuce. If I could grow lettuce that looks and tastes this good, then you can do it too. It really is that easy. Note: Some people suggest changing the reservoir every 2 weeks or so. In this situation I did not. However, I would not recommend going beyond the time needed to complete the growth of the lettuce. Before starting a new crop, the reservoir SHOULD be emptied, cleaned, and refilled with fresh nutrients and water. The variety of lettuce is Adriana. It is a heat tolerant butterhead lettuce that I purchased from Johnny's Seeds. The nutrient mix is a combination of a water soluble 4-18-38, calcium nitrate, and Epsom salt that I mixed at a 2-2-1 ratio, with approximately 8 grams of 4-18-38, 8 grams of calcium nitrate, and 4 grams of Epsom salt per 5 gallons of water. Pour it in, turn it on, and let 'er rip !

Redclaw Aquaponics - Hydroponic Pots

Find out more about Redclaw Aquaponics here tinyurl.com Hydroponics has been a popular way to grow vegetables and it is working well. However it has several disadvantages, which are not found in an aquaponics system. Growing vegetables with this latest system, is fast becoming popular. Not only because of its simplicity and its effectiveness, but also because it provides fresh fish for the dinner table. Which plants or fish you can grow with Aquaponics? You can almost grow anything with your aquaponics system. You can choose to grow vegetables (lettuce, cucumber, green onions, silver beets, cabbage, pepper, squash, leafy greens, etc.), herbal plants, fruits (strawberry, melon, etc.), or legumes (beans, peas, etc.). Meanwhile, there are also great selections of fish you can opt for the system such as Tilapia, Trout, Chinese Catfish, Large mouth Bass, Striped Bass, Bluegill, Small mouth Bass, Crappie, or decorative fish like Goldfish or Koi. Basically, the choice of the fish type can be adjusted with the climate and environment where you live. Aquaponics system is a new way to provide fruits, vegetables, and fish using the same media. The details on how to take care of your fish and your vegetables can be found by visiting above. Hydroponic patio garden from The Worlds Laziest Gardener

This is a complete tutorial for starting, fertilizing and maintaining a backyard garden in pots. This uses hydroponics to produce the vegetables you want during the summer. Tomatoes, oregano, basil, rosemary, fennel, broccoli, and more in a patio garden only 8 X 16. If you like this tutorial, please feel free to subscribe as I will do several more this year. Also send the link around to your gardener friends. I love passing this knowledge on as it took me years to develop a clear, succinct way to maximize a patio space for gardening. In my greenhouse, I specialized in petunia baskets and grew over 3200 each year in a 5000 sf house. They were stacked 4 deep on hanging rows. I believe that I had the best basket per square foot of any greenhouse in the US.I also trialed growing strawberries in the winter and many other hydroponic crops that you now can get the knowledge from. Please enjoy Gods' bountiful harvest.

Indoor Hydroponic Winter Garden Update January 8th, 2012

I filmed this in segments over the past week. The plants are growing at different rates. Everything is now in the hydroponic units. My stevia didn't germinate so the seed may not be good. I think I'll try a big batch of it to see if any will. Some of the peppers look a little weak. I'm hoping they perk up now that they are getting nutrients. Everything growing are all heirloom varieties this year. Here's a link to my updates that I do with photos every few days: www.tomorrowsgarden.net

Urban Farming: Hydroponics in the City

Keeping agriculture sustainable increasingly means keeping it local. Besides the environmental benefit of reducing reliance on fossil-fuel guzzling transportation, eating local food is a more seasonal and often healthier experience. With concern about food security growing, it might turn out to be safer, too. The folks in charge of the Science Barge, a new urban farming experiment in New York, are bringing local food production closer than ever. In this video Vanessa Rae learns about the floating greenhouse facility, which is designed as a demonstration of how urban space, especially rooftop space in big cities like New York, can be used to efficiently produce food. Self-powered by solar panels, wind turbines, and a biodiesel generator, the Science Barge uses state of the art computer technology and an agricultural technique called hydroponics to grow fruits and veggies using much less water and space than field farming. Watch out, city slickers. Farm country is coming to your neighborhood.

Floating Raft Hydroponic System

This is a 2x8 ft. floating raft DWC (deep water culture) hydroponic system. Mainly used for lettuce, but can be used to grow many other vegetable. I have four 14 inch air stone bars for oxygenating the nutrient solution. There is a total of 36 holes for plants, 9 in each 2x2 section. I used a 2 1/8 hole saw to drill the holes and I'm using 5 oz. clear plastic cups from Wal-Mart (Great Value brand). This allows the cup to sit in the hole and drop about 1/8 in. below the styrofoam into the water. Styrofoam is 1 1/2 in. thick. I used a soldering iron to melt small holes in the bottom of each cup to allow roots through to the nutrients.

www.tomorrowsgarden.net Just a quick update since it's been a few weeks. The tomatoes are rockin'. Peppers had a case of root rot but are getting over it. Cucumbers had a little root rot and a potassium deficiency and look a little scraggly but are starting to produce cucumbers. Ate my lettuce and will try something new in that unit starting today. Basil good as always. The aerogarden tomatoes are flowering and very healthy. I'll do a photo update in 1 week posted on my website and another video update in 2 weeks.

Hydroponic Lettuce Experiment-Vertical Growing

I have taught myself the basics of hydroponics and must have read every report and book on the subject. I have started out farming on the 100 square meter roof garden of my penthouse. After that I imported two models of rotating garden from Omega Gardens in Canada.. I was hooked. This was a crazy project and I loved every moment of it. I have taught myself the basics of hydroponics and started farming on the roof of my penthouse. From there I progressed to rotating gardens and imported a machine from Omega Gardens in Canada. The massive increases in the cost of electricity resulted in this project being canned. Valuable lessons were learned and I will most certainly try another improved version in the future. The explosive growth of lettuce in this environment was certainly amazing. This project was undertaken by two people. Frans Siditi , my African assistant and myself. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this. Thank you Frans- without your assistance this would not have been possible. There was a nursery section where seedlings was kept at 9 cm centers and then moved to the grow out section with 22 cm centers. Harvesting commenced at 02h00 in the morning and the product was delivered at the market at 06h00. We used headlamps. LED headlamps sometimes have an infrared function as well. One night I have switched on the infrared function and looked at the plants. Generally you cannot see healthy plants. But if the leaves are burnt on the edges or have been damaged <b>...</b>

Hydroponic Vertical Lettuce - Week 1 in System - HydroVert Farms

GrowLightReview.com - I placed 26 lettuce seedlings of four varieties into the 80 spot system and at the end of the first week, most of the plants have roots that extend out of the net pots, but some of the roots are very short and have not made it out past the net pot. The leaves look healthy, but the stems are pretty thin. I'll be keeping an eye on that. I may need stronger or more light. I'm currently using four 4 foot fluorescent T12 bulbs. I may have to use my 600 Watt High Pressure Sodium Metal Halide combo light. lettuce variety includes, Burpee Bibb, Green Ice, Little Caesar, and Summer Crisp.
