The Hubble Deep Field: The Most Important Image Ever Taken

Get astronomy tweets! twitter.com In 2003, the Hubble Space Telescope took the image of a millenium, an image that shows our place in the universe. Anyone who understands what this image represents, is forever changed by it. How Can the universe be 78 billion LY across? I explain that in this article: www.deepastronomy.com There is also a link to a science paper on the topic, that paper actually states 96 billion LY. arxiv.org

The video does include nebulae, galaxies and stars. --How big is our Universe-- In the visable Universe ( the parts of the universe from where us already reached the light ) there are about 120 billion galaxies. One of them, our milkyway, has estimated 200 billion stars. With that size the question has to be where is other life out there - not is there other life at all. --Nebulas-- Nebulas are the leavings of a star that ended his life with a super/hypernova. They can be shaped by cosmic radiation and sunwinds. --Hubble Space Telescope-- Check out the video, its worth it! www.youtube.com

This video shows the star field of NGC 2440, and a colourful "last hurrah" of a star like our Sun. The star is ending its life by casting off its outer layers of gas, which formed a cocoon around the star's remaining core. Ultraviolet light from the dying star makes the material glow. The burned-out star, called a white dwarf, is the white dot in the centre. Read more and see more pictures on: www.spacetelescope.org

Astronomers Still Look to Hubble Space Telescope

This is the VOA Special English Technology Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http The Hubble Space Telescope continues to make valuable discoveries after more than twenty years in orbit around Earth. Hubble recently showed a fourth moon orbiting Pluto. Astronomers temporarily named it P4. The moon is the smallest to be discovered around the icy dwarf planet. Astronomers estimate that the moon is from thirteen to thirty-four kilometers across. They first saw it in a Hubble photo taken on June twenty-eighth. The American space agency NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope in nineteen ninety. Reaching that day took years of work. Ed Weiler is NASA's chief astronomer. Mr. Weiler has worked closely with the Hubble program since nineteen seventy-nine. He says that when the Hubble was launched, it represented an increase in the ability of other telescopes on Earth by a factor of ten. He says the last time in astronomy that something like this happened was when Galileo put the first telescope to his eye. NASA's first chief of astronomy was Nancy Grace Roman. Ms. Roman joined NASA in nineteen fifty-nine. She led the effort that resulted in the creation of the Hubble Space Telescope. She says astronomers had been wanting to get observations from above the atmosphere for a long time. Looking through the atmosphere is somewhat like looking through a piece of old, stained glass. The glass has defects in it, so the image is blurred from that. The Hubble telescope orbits about five ...

The Hubble Space Telescope is Back and Better Than Ever!

By popular demand, I've created a high definition montage of the latest images released from the upgraded Hubble Space Telescope. Many Space Fans out there wanted a montage of just the music and animations. Well, your wish is my command. Enjoy the eye candy! The Hubble Space Telescope now has a new Wide Field Camera, a repaired Advanced Camera for Surveys and two new spectrographs, making this telescope into an entirely different instrument than it was before. We have so much to look forward to now; an entirely new generation of images will be pouring out of this thing - what I'm showing here is just the beginning. At first, I was against repairing the HST, I wanted resources put into the James Webb Telescope, I'm glad no one listened to me! All animations/video are courtesy NASA/ESA and can be obtained here: www.hubblesite.org I purchased the rights to use this music from AudioSparx (thanks for the donations Space Fans, it's what made this possible!) and can be found here: Celtic Dawn: www.audiosparx.com Techno Galactica: www.audiosparx.com

The story of the Hubble Space Telescope and where we go ...

On August 11th, 2008 the Hubble Telescope hit the 100000 orbit mark! Since its launch in April of 1990 the Hubble Space Telescope has been traveling at 5 miles per second with its on-board odometer racking up around 2.72 BILLION miles! That's about 5700 trips to the moon and back! In October of this year the STS-125 crew will be be working on the 5th and final servicing mission to Hubble. There are currently 5 spacewalks scheduled for Atlantis where astronauts will install new equipment and repair broken instruments. Once this mission is complete, NASA's favorite telescope will need to live out the remainder of its days alone in space, with no chance of repair. This is the story of the Hubble Space Telescope, or HST.

Orbiter 2010:Hubble Space Telescope

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a space telescope that was carried into orbit by a space shuttle in 1990. Although not the first space telescope, Hubble is one of the largest and most versatile, and is well-known as both a vital research tool and a public relations boon for astronomy. The HST was built by the United States space agency NASA, with contributions from the European Space Agency, and is operated by the Space Telescope Science Institute. It is named after the astronomer Edwin Hubble. The HST is one of NASA's Great Observatories, along with the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and the Spitzer Space Telescope. Space telescopes were proposed as early as 1923. Hubble was funded in the 1970s, with a proposed launch in 1983, but the project was beset by technical delays, budget problems, and the Challenger disaster. When finally launched in 1990, scientists found that the main mirror had been ground incorrectly, severely compromising the telescope's capabilities. However, after a servicing mission in 1993, the telescope was restored to its intended quality. Hubble's orbit outside the distortion of Earth's atmosphere allows it to take extremely sharp images with almost no background light. Hubble's Ultra Deep Field image, for instance, is the most detailed visible-light image ever made of the universe's most distant objects. Many Hubble observations have led to breakthroughs in astrophysics, such as accurately determining the rate of ...

The Hubble Space Telescope: 20th Anniversary of Discovery

Hubble was first launched on the 24th of April 1990, today, Hubble has been operation for 20 years. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has been our eyes on the universe for the last two decades. It has showed us what we thought we knew was impossible, it has showed us natural beauty artists haven't imagined, it has captivated the minds and hearts of millions and is the most recognised observatory ever built. In celebration Hubble pointed its starry-eyes on the Carina Nebula and snapped its anniversary image. This photo is very much reminiscent of the Pillars of Creation with towers of dust and gas stretching light years. For people not familiar with Hubble's history, there's a short montage of what Hubble has discovered and imaged (artists' impressions included). Hubble truly is one-of-a-kind. If there was ever a debate on space exploration Hubble would certainly provide a reason to reach for the stars. Credit: HST team/NASA/ESA/Hubble Space Telescope

Hubble Space Telescope Pictures with Gustav Holst's The Planets - 1080p HD - INCREDIBLE!

Eugene Ormandy Conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Gustav Theodore Holst's "The Planets" movement Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age with the Hubble's top 100 high res pictures. I was overwhelmed looking at the pictures and the presence of a Higher Power is so evident at least to me so I wanted to put these two things together. It came out great I think. If you get a chance listen to his whole symphony you'll will love it. The suite has seven movements, each of them named after a planet and its corresponding Roman deity (see also Planets in astrology): 1.Mars, the Bringer of War 2.Venus, the Bringer of Peace 3.Mercury, the Winged Messenger 4.Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity 5.Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age 6.Uranus, the Magician 7.Neptune, the Mystic The order of the movements corresponds to increasing distance of their eponymous planets from the Earth. Some commentators have suggested that this is intentional, with the anomaly of Mars preceding Venus being a device to make the first four movements match the form of a symphony.-- Gustav Holst (Composer), Ralph Vaughan Williams (Composer), Eugene Ormandy (Conductor), Philadelphia Orchestra (Orchestra)

Russian Hubble: Breakthrough space telescope?

Possessing the biggest-yet space telescope, just launched into orbit, and the only manned spaceship that can take cosmonauts to the ISS, Russia's role in world space programs is irreplaceable, the country's space chief Vladimir Popovkin told RT. RT:Well, America's Hubble will now have company in orbit. Is the Russian telescope looking to discover something the Hubble has been missing during all these years it has been operating? Vladimir Popovkin: Foreign scientists, not Russian ones, say that our telescope is more interesting than the Hubble Space Telescope in terms of making new findings. It's a very profound science that implies a high degree of relativity of the final result. It's difficult to forecast anything here. The telescope makes it possible to monitor the emergence of new stars and galaxies in a radio frequency band, to see how the whole process goes and gather some statistical data on the basis of which it would be possible to predict the dynamics of development of our planet and the Universe and to understand where we have all come from and what's waiting for us in the future. In this respect, this is a historical event which marks Russia's return to space science. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com
