Simon Wiesenthal Center video Tribute to Hiram (Harry) Bingham IV on March 28, 2011. The film shows the Nazis on the march in Europe and how US Vice-Consul Harry Bingham rose to the dangerous occasion to save lives. Harry Bingham was an American WWII diplomat rescuer who defied his government to save many refugees from the Holocaust while he was posted in Marseilles during 1940-1941, and who received the Medal of Valor posthumously from the Center at the annual Awards Dinner on March 28, 2011 in NYC, where the film was first shown. [The Wall Street Journal noted: "More than 450 supporters of the Simon Wiesenthal Center gathered for the 2011 Humanitarian Award Dinner. The Medal of Valor was awarded posthumously to Sir Winston Churchill, Hiram Bingham IV, and Pope John Paul II, and the Humanitarian Award was given to General Electric Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt." Hiram Bingham Train to Machu Picchu
A trip on the luxurious train that runs from Cusco to Machu Picchu on June 30, 2011. This train only began running 6 years ago. July 2011 marks the 100 year anniversary of the "discovery" of Machu Picchu by Professor Bingham from Yale University. Thousands of artifacts were removed (stolen) by him and reside with Yale. Just this year a few were returned to Peru and eventually thousands will be returned. Good for Yale though it took a lawsuit. Jim Carrey was on our train- I said hi to him. It made his day.
