After a 30-hour standoff in Toulouse, French police stormed the building in which Mohammed Merah had been surrounded. Explosions and long bursts of gunfire were heard. Merah had killed three French soldiers, a rabbi, and three Jewish children. During the standoff and fighting, Mohammed Merah shot and injured two police officers -- one seriously. Merah is a self-proclaimed al-Qaeda militant who sought to do as much damage as possible, and it's been reported that he resisted arrest by jumping out of the window while still shooting at French police. It is not yet known what killed him, but he has been confirmed dead.

From an intermediary, Al Jazeera has received mobile phone footage from a "young Libyan in Tripoli".
