6 Alarm Fire in Fitchurg, MA on June 13, 2011. This is the Johnsonia Building at the corner of Main Streeet and Putnam Street. The Fire broke out around 9:00 PM.

This is an Otis Series-1 Hydraulic REPLACEMENT Elevator, in the rear of the McKay Campus Teaching Elementary School Building, Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg, Massachusetts. This section of the building is now used for Adult Education, by Mount Wachusett Community College. The entire building was a grade school, when a class of mine was held here (a Pre/Early Grade School program). Our classroom was on the top floor (shown in this video), next to this elevator, or should I say, the one that USED to be here. (At least the old door frame is still here.) This is CRIMINAL! This elevator is where a MANUAL Dover Freight Elevator was, with MANUAL doors, but the same buttons (and motor) as the tiny one up front. It had a wood tongue-and-groove floor, a scissor-gate inner door, and a window in the outermost panel on the 2-speed door. I used to watch a friend of mine board this lift, and watch it go down through that window. All gone now. :( This was where my Parents talked about my fear of elevators, and my teacher tried to get me over it, in that old freighter. It failed. Although it's lone gone, This ride truly closes a 32-year chapter in my life, of the fear of elevators. This is where the training began. Anyway, it's not the smoothest ride, and still sickens me that the freighter was ripped out and replaced with this thing.

This is the Central Dover Impulse cenrtal Man-Powered Elevator, at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Unlike the mechanical elevators, the MPE's generally use the "Dover Beep/Chirp", but just like the mechanicals, these are el-cheapo HIGHdraulics. They aren't in the best of cindition, either, with chunks of concrete in the fixed incremented plains, as well as holes in general. It appears there were actually exposed metal, before the 6'th floor was added on. These are newer than the Four-Points Sheraton down the highway, and are in worse shape. They could use a little TLC. These can be dangerous, if allowed to deteriorate more. There was no view from the top floor, as planned, but we stop at the starting point (2), and got the view of the nice Atrium to the indoor water park. The other view was just black (woods).

This elevator was one of both in this building, I was intriqued about 32 years ago, but too scared to ride elevators back then. That all ended today. This is the TINY Dover Hydraulic Elevator, at the imediate entry (Entrance A) of McKay Campus Teaching Elementary School, Fitchburg, Massachusetts. This is the crown jewel of FSU, as it was the pinacle of their cirriculum for many years, to train new teachers, by actually teaching grade school kids. Since this building is no longer solely a Grade School, I went in to record this, as this part also is used to the Performing Arts. Anyway, the elevator is tiny, and rides fairly well, but you can tell it's getting old, and worn. There's an MAJOR EPIC WHITE BALANCE FAIL during the ride, where the camera thinks the yellowish cab should be white, and corrects, BIG. The end result, psychadelic. This is actually very understandable, and makes PERFECT SENSE, because when you record outside on a cloudy day, or in twilight, the outside is tinged blue, so even flourescent lighted windows appear a brownish-yellow. When you step into that lighting, it realizes that color is wrong, and balances it to be white (correct). The yellowish color of the cab is EXACTLY the same as the ill-conceived thought of stepping from the outside, into a white room, so it balanced the color to make the elevator appear white, and everything else is just weird. I get the balance almost back to normal, but then it goes back to weird again. It almost, but never <b>...</b>

The top floor and roof were burned off in a spectacular fire that took place in Fitchburg, Ma at 520 Main St on June 13, 2011 around 9:30pm. A 3rd alarm was requested on arrival after companies found heavy fire on the 5th floor and attic of the 5 sty apartments over commercial building. A 4th, 5th and 6th alarms were requested a short time later.
